I installed one of these for my dad last weekend. After I was done I thought about lubing that rubber flange like you suggested. It went well anyway but that grease is a good idea. I didn't realize what we had bought until I unpacked it and I thought this will take a bit of learning. They are unlike any I had done before and although I am not a plumber I have set maybe 30 toilets in 40 years of residential work.

This is the toilet I want. Thank you for showing the back, some of the skirted ones have an open back where all kinds of critters could crawl in and make a home. I like this one better. 😃

Thanks for really good step by step instructions. I was concerned about the flange nut that have a rounded end on them like perhaps they can or sink into the steel flanges. Since you photographed it so well I was able to get the answer and finish the job. Keep up the good work😊😊😊

It says that you still need a wax ring with this one, is that true?@@davidsaunders1981

Thanks for this. Done a number of toilets but nothing with that newfangled flange-y thing. Funny that when I contacted Kohler about using the waxless ring (instead of the wax type included) they didn't have a clue as to whether it was compatible or not. I initially tried to fit the Fluidmaster waxless ring around the bottom of the flange and seems you need to stretch and almost deform it to get it to fit. Is that your experience?
@davidsaunders19817 ай бұрын
Yes you do have to stretch it a bit but not too much to where it seems like it would be a problem

Will I have problems with the installing this kind of toilet if the flange is sitting on top of the tile, not flush with the tile as shown in this video?
@davidsaunders1981 Жыл бұрын
No you won’t have problems at all.

Will the Danco perfect seal work with this toilet as well?
@davidsaunders1981 Жыл бұрын
Yes it should.
@patrickfuhrman11 ай бұрын
With the seal you prefer, Danco, you still have to use a wax seal under it?
@davidsaunders198111 ай бұрын
No you don’t have to use the wax

How is that plastic part and those screws nut thingamajig gonna hold up especially if have and you have to remove it. Or snake it out ro plunge it and it leaks where the 2 pieces come together under skirt.
@davidsaunders198111 ай бұрын
It’s got the waxless ring sandwiched into place and won’t move plus if installed right a toilet shouldn’t have to come up unless you are changing out your flooring or want a new toilet.

Just intalled this model (Gleam), tank wobbles a lot, just two bolts holding the tank. Am I missing something?
@davidsaunders198111 ай бұрын
If you tighten it down to where the metal bracket almost touches the toilet it should not wobble. It almost seems like you are over tightening it but I’ve never broke one yet
@cniemann9596 Жыл бұрын
Why don’t you use the 20th century wax ring? I have one gleam installed & used it 😮. I’m about to install a 2nd downstairs. Usual tips, thanks.
@davidsaunders1981 Жыл бұрын
I haven’t used a wax ring in years. The waxless seals are not near as messy and you can feel that they seal better

You said it wasn’t your favorite waxless ring, so which one is? Was just gunna use the wax ring.

Working with PVC flange was difficult to keep the flange bolt t correctly on the flange when tightening the brackets, had to use vice grips and open end to keep from splitting the pvc flang. Then when putting in the side bolts, the nut insert fell out of the plastic contraption instead of threading. Took 2 trys to get the side mount bolt to catch. . . Use soap on the rubber flange to make the porcelain slide in easier. Then all good, filled up, no leaks but bowel was still loose and would move if you try to turn it. Tightened side more, still loose. Tightened little more-snap, plastic swing bracket broke inside. Welp, now to remove and take an hour drive back to HD to return this stupid mounting system toilet.

No need to caulk the bottom of the toilet??
@davidsaunders19815 ай бұрын
@@MKUMBRA You should never have to caulk the bottom of the toilet. Reason being if you toilet leaks you want it to leak out onto the floor if it does so that you see before it leaks down in between floors or into crawlspace or slab
