FasNuf Garage, you saved me with a SIMPLE process for installing pushrods and bolting the rocker arms! THANK YOU... Lot of misinformation out there. Thank you for making it clear that need to start with Cyl1 at TDC, on the COMPESSION STROKE! (So arrow of cam spoket at the top, 12:00)!!!! This is the text of what you showed in the video: 5. Install the rocker arms and bolts. The intake rocker arms (1) have an offset design. 6. Rotate the crankshaft until number 1 piston is at top dead center of compression stroke. In this position, cylinder number 1 rocker arms will be off lobe lift, and the crankshaft sprocket key will be at the 1:30 position. The camshaft and crankshaft sprocket alignment marks (1, 2) will be in the 12 o'clock position. If viewing from the rear of the engine, the additional crankshaft pilot hole, non-threaded, will be in the 10:30 position. The engine firing order is 1, 8, 7, 2, 6, 5, 4, 3. Cylinders 1, 3, 5 and 7 are left bank. Cylinders 2, 4, 6, and 8 are right bank. 7. ith the engine in the number 1 firing position, tighten the following valve rocker arm bolts: 7.1. Tighten the exhaust valve rocker arm bolts 1, 2, 7, and 8 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft). 7.2. Tighten the intake valve rocker arm bolts 1, 3, 4, and 5 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft). 8. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees. 9. Tighten the following valve rocker arm bolts: 9.1. Tighten the exhaust valve rocker arm bolts 3, 4, 5, and 6 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft). 9.2. Tighten the intake valve rocker arm bolts 2, 6, 7, and 8 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

Great Craftsmanship, stopping and reperforming the whole install when you realized you had a bolt hydrolocked.

Sorry everyone, I got busy uploading and working on the car, I didn't' get footage of the timing chain cover install or water pump. If you have questions, please drop me a comment and I'll make a video or answer here. Thank You!

Great job on the install. One question, which direction the pushrods go in? I have Trick Flow stock length pushrods on my V2. One side is shiny at the tip the other is the hardend black. Right now, I'm not getting oil on some of the rockers. Can't find any information on the web about these. Any suggestions?
@fasnuf6 ай бұрын
The direction for the ones I used didnt matter, but you'll want to consult the manufacturer. As far as oil not getting to the rockers, check the oil hole running throught each pushrod to be sure dirt or bugs haven't got inside. If all are clear then you may have a plugged lifter .
@baybiboy16 ай бұрын
@fasnuf I did check the pushrod for debris, it was clear. I checked down inside the pushrod bore. The lifter had oil. I also checked the rocker arm hole bore, it was vlear. I'm getting more oil now. I think it needed to be primed longer. Thanks for your help! P.S. where is your video on priming the oil. I just removed the fuel pump fuse and cranked the car until oil came up in the rocker assembly. Don't know if this is right.

Ik that you mention there’s an intake and exhaust rocker arm but does it matter if it’s any rocker arm ? Because I see some numbers on the rocker arm but I think I mixed them and don’t remember the sequence.
@fasnuf3 жыл бұрын
The exhaust and intake rockers are different as you said. If you got all the exhaust rockers mixed up, and all the intake rockers mixed up, then I guess you don’t have much choice but to put back together however you can. The reason you try to remember where they go is because of the wear patterns on the rocker and the valve tip.

@@fasnuf if I replaced springs and pushrods along with the trunnion upgrade, does it matter if they go in the same spot?
@winstondeitz67653 жыл бұрын
Can you change out the springs without taking off the timing chain cover?
@fasnuf3 жыл бұрын
As long as the spring isn't under pressure and proper spring removal procedures are used, the timing cover is inconsequential.
@winstondeitz67653 жыл бұрын
@@fasnuf I am looking at replacing my springs and want to do it myself. Would you just turn the crank until they aren’t under pressure to take the rockers off?
@JonnyBlazeTCB2 жыл бұрын
Did you have clearance issues with the valve covers?
@bentleymontgomery88122 жыл бұрын
No and there’s no reason you should with stock rockers. Longer pushrods only compress the lifters more. Cam lift isn’t a problem here either. Thanks for watching

I ended up using a CHE Precision trunnion kit because everyone was telling me they would hit.

How hard was it to turn your crank after installing the rockers, without spark plugs? I’m a bit worried as my crank is way harder to turn after installing my stock rocker arms and btr pushrods. Is that normal with the stiffness of my .660 dual valve springs? I measured 30-35 ft lbs to be able to turn the crank with rockers installed, it only takes about 15 lbs to turn without them
@fasnuf Жыл бұрын
It will have more resistance for sure. If you removed the heads I would be concerned a lifter is in sideways. If not, you should be good. If you’re questioning your work, get in there and check your rockers and springs to be sure they’re not binding
@MrRey007 Жыл бұрын
i dont know if im doing something wrong but what the point i have to get the engine in order to start torquing the rocker arms? for me sometimes it turns over 1 and a half turns and sometimes it takes like 3 turns on other cylinders.
@fasnuf Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure about your situation. But you want to make sure there’s no spring pressure on the rocker you’re trying to torque.
@mick18842 жыл бұрын
Is this the same for all LS engines?? Thanks
@fasnuf2 жыл бұрын
You should follow manufacture specs for your engine model unless otherwise noted in your instructions. If you could be more specific what part you’re referring to, I might be able to help.

How did you prime it to make sure oil was getting to the top of the engine?
@fasnuf3 жыл бұрын
There's a plug in the block on the drivers side towards the front just under the head I believe. I can't remember the thread pitch seems like 16mm x 1.5, but I used a barb into that hole and clear plastic hose. Filled the hose (poly) with oil and pressurized the hose with 30 psi from my air compressor until I barely saw the oil in the hose. DO NOT PUSH ALL THE OIL IN!! IT WILL UNPRIME YOUR PUMP! Always have oil in the clear hose!! Just kept adding oil until I saw oil coming out the pushrods and rockers. Once it was primed, i just took the hose off the barb, unscrewed the barb from the block and plugged it. Pump is primed and so is the engine. Do yourself a favor, be sure to clamp the hose to the barb otherwise the 30 psi may blow the hose off the barb. I think this is the fitting, I used teflon tape to seal but it sucked and almost got into the engine so be careful .... www.ebay.com/itm/Fitting-Metric-M16-M16X1-5-Male-to-Barb-Hose-ID-5-8-16mm-Brass-Adapter-Fuel-Air/163303642691?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

@@fasnuf Thanks for the quick reply. I would have never thought of that! Unfortunately I let my 98 z28 sit to long without starting it so I have to go the whole 9 yards ie fresh gas, oil change, pull spark plugs, spray some type of fogging oil or fluid (to be determined) in each cylinder and manually turn it over. Not sure what year your Camaro is but in '98 the engine sits back resulting in cylinders 7 and 8 underneath the cowl making it a pain to work on. Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.
@chrisbryant16573 жыл бұрын
I'm in the same boat as you. I also have a 98 z28 that I Iet sit to long unfortunately. Have you decided yet what you are going to put in the cylinders after you pull the spark plugs? I've researched it and various products are used. I can't decide what would be the best to use.

Hi, do all LS engines require lash caps and if so on which rocker do you install the lash caps on? All the rockers or just the intake side or exhaust side
@fasnuf4 жыл бұрын
mine doesnt have lash caps

The LS9 and LS7 have lash caps on the intake valves only. They have titanium intake valves

Waste of time soaking the rockers.. By the time the grease dissipates the bearings will be lubricated by the engine oil. How many videos did it take until for actually had the rocker arms torqued down ? In the time it takes you guys to build one motor I build 10.
@fasnuf2 жыл бұрын
Filming while building does take more time than if I wasn't preoccupied with camera angle, lighting, soiund and whether what I'm saying makes sense not including editing and uploading time. By rotating the trunnion while under oil, I'm ensuring there's oil inside the bearing cage and not waiting for the grease to melt away. We all have different ways of accomplishing the same end result, a running engine. Thanks for watching.
@davidsharp9222 жыл бұрын
@@fasnuf I build 3 to 5 motors per week. Lots of them have 600+lift cams that I do the trunion upgrades on the rocker arms. Have been doing them for years. Never soaked them in oil but have poured a little bit of oil on them after bolting to the heads but it isn't really necessary to do that. We use high pressure pumps that I prime so the oil pressure is at about 70 psi within seconds after start up. You guys just think of creative ways to make the process take longer which equates to more videos which means more KZbin bucks. Take a job rebuilding people's motors and when they ask why it's taking so long to get the job done just tell them you gotta make more videos and see what their reaction is. Thanks for reading.
