Anybody mount these on a Bigfoot with a basement? I only have about 1 inch between my step and a basement hatch, so that wide bracket will not work. Anybody know the workaround?

I just ordered and installed my TorkLift steps, game changer. I had a set of scissor steps from another manufacturer, but the top 2 steps were always slanted down. Our last trip I tripped going down, had to leap, and fortunately landed fine, prett good for 3/4 century old camper. That got me to order the TorkLifts. Great company!

I agree. I was excited when Torklift reached out. They are expensive but the quality of their product is in line with the price. I have numerous overseas companies reach out weekly asking me to peddle their Amazon garbage. I don't want to put my name on any of that cheep stuff. I've bought Torklift in the past. couple of notes on these. If you buy the steps and mount together no problem. But If not and you get them separate, what a mess. I ordered the mount because I already had the steps and they did not send any of the hardware. Call Torklift and they send another mount, no hardware again. This went on for like 3 months. Sent back one of the mounts and went to hardware store to get the nylon washers and bolts I needed. Also when mounting I did the same thing as Kenny mounting and have had zero issues. The problem is if you don't have a large enough space you can't use all the holes. But I can tell you it works just fine and I am a big guy >250lbs. I have all Torklift ( mounts, steps, fast guns)and its good stuff but their customer service is meh....BTW that cat eye is CLEAN! is it a LBZ?

We have the steps also, you don’t have to pull them all the way out. Try different pull out lengths and see if they are still solid, I try to keep the vertical bars between the steps no further out then straight up and down but even if they are leaning towards the camper still very strong. I also made the top step flush with the top of the bumper, gives a nice landing and good place to sit. Hope this helps. Oh instead of the pins to lock them to the camper I used a bolt and nut on each side, harder for someone to take off.

Great install video, you made it look real easy! Those are exactly what we will need when we get our camper since our 5500 4x4 sits very high. I wonder how they'd work with a Fox Landing, the steps are definite necessity, along with an extended handrail, but the Fox Landing is not. Leaving your existing steps on was brilliant, then you can still get into your camper without extending the steps; you mentioned everything we were thinking about regarding those steps. After looking at several truck campers, we've settled on an Arctic Fox 1140 but haven't seen one in person yet, and may not before we purchase. Not ready to buy yet, maybe a nice used one will come up. It was a very COLD week almost everywhere. Have a great week, I know it won't be as cold, will see ya on the next one. I have their steps as well except I do not have the store and go. As you stated it is nice not to have them on all the time. I just throw them in the camper and climb up a step I built for the receiver. The steps are fantastic though for when the dogs come with us. We had planned a trip for Christmas vacation but the weather just did not cooperate. May still do something this weekend if things do pan out.
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. I probably won't use them all the time. My camping style won't always work with them. But I could see how they would work great for someone who might not be as nimble as they once were.
@charlesb4267 Жыл бұрын
That was the exact clip I was thinking of when you stepped on that little stool and then precariously up onto the camper step as the ground was such that the height was just too much. I've seen and heard of people having some bad spills with the standard camper steps and using a stool down below that was too small and on an unstable surface or sloped ... it all went sideways and down they went injuring themselves. My brother initially did the stool thing with the factory camper flip out step but had a massive and nice fold out leg type platform but was a total pain to stow away so bought a very expensive triple fold out step but the problem with that is any time he has to be towed ( remember, its a Ford ! ) with a long deck tandem axle tow truck, that whole step has to be unbolted from the camper as it hangs too low/too much over hang with that large camper. This type of step is not as handy as his but sure would be a lot better when it came to dealing with having to be winched onto a tow truck deck.

Just noticed the comment. It was a year ago, so you likely figured it out. You can order with the 1" mounting bracket, the steps just don't stow like Kennys. Can't post image here, but the 1"below the door will be solid and the bracket has lag screws. When closed up there is a cable to keep them closed, I swing mine under and use a small chain to keep from swinging.

Thanks Kenny. Great videos. I have watched yr vids for a while and the gear reviews are always informative. Have you seem the guy running the dodge 3500 where the truck folded? its fairly recent. Don't want to go down the GVWR rabbit hole but did want your thoughts on the Chevy platform. I know you are a wee bit over but with the front and rear hitches and running the duramax do you have any concerns with the frame? I did the same thing you did with the overload and bags so not worried about the suspension. But wondering what yr thoughts are on the weak point of these trucks? I know in 2012 they changed the axels and went to more box frames but still see all the chatter about GVRW. its kinda stupid to add the duramax and Allison and you drop yr payload by 1500#. Its not a issue of stopping or power so it has to be the frame? Tires are upgradeable and thats EZ but that folded dodge was a interesting read. there are a few vids that broke down the payload and such but by the time you add people, water, gear, the camper, a few food items, a box of tissue , and leave a extra 10% buffer you have like 200 lbs payload, Thanks!

Great comment! So far I haven't had any issues with the truck carrying the camper. The combo has traveled everything from interstates to ATV trails. I have hit pot holes so big that my front tires will jump 8" off the ground and slam back down. So far I haven't noticed any issues with body lines not matching up or uneven tread wear. I think everything is still still straight and holding up fine. (Knock on wood) I have seen that Dodge post, pretty crazy! I haven't looked into it enough to know much about the entire situation though. I had to stop following a lot of those Facebbok groups. Too many know-it-alls and trolls. I wish I could answer your question better, but all I can say is when driving my truck camper it feels very confident. Thanks for the great comment!

Awesome...But I want to know how they work with the camper off the truck. Most of us lower the camper as low as possible and it looks like the stow and go wont work because of the length required to use them while on the truck. the "rise over run" is different for the camper off the truck and lowered to reduce jack instability.
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
Great question! In that situation, I would remove the steps. There are two pins that hold the steps in place. Removing the steps takes less than a minute.

@Johnny B No, unfortunately, they unfold like a big accordion. You can not just unfold 1 or 2 of the steps. They all have to be unfolded at the same time. If I take the torque lift steps off I still have the original 2 steps that are mounted on the camper.
