This video was extremely helpful in getting my lift installed in my Tundra. The only thing that I would add is that when doing the passenger side rear coil spring spacer, we noted that the rear brake lines (not ABS) became very tight and we could not comfortably lower the rear axle enough without removing the various brake clamping bolts from the axle. Otherwise, this video was instrumental (for me at least) in getting this lift installed. Thanks for the great product!

I wonder how many times this comment has been seen, my guess is not enough, i figured this out myself while doing the install luckily before the brake lines were damaged or torn out. I ordered longer brake lines, which should be an option when buying this kit, all versions 👍

Great video, very helpful. My only comments are as follow for DIY installers: the front lower spindle bolts are very tricky to get in, you have to align the upper aluminum piece up with the bottom knuckle, and I did one myself, the other required another person to hold the wheel end and move it and tilt so the holes lined up while i slowly screwed the bolts in, honestly it’s a real SOB by yourself. I do agree with putting some red loktite on the nuts and bolts shown (and using a GOOD torque wrench on all), my front sway bar nuts almost came off after a couple short drives, so I added more LT and retorqued them. Some say they had a hard time compressing springs, i used the OMT kit from Amazon & it was stressed but worked, just be patient and grease the tool bolts heavily so they don’t lock up & turn slowly with a gun. My other suggestion is to mark all the bolts and nuts removed during this install with a paint pen (Amazon) after install so you can see if any of them move after doing some drives, and then recheck all in 500 miles then again at 1,000. This is something Wescott shows in one of their other videos when they do an install at their shop in Phoenix, great pro tip. Lastly, if you can afford it, I highly recommend getting Wescott TRD full shock lift kit, it gives you more travel, and it rides like a dream, I believe better than stock without having so much lean, and not so mushy. Using “C” or “D” load tires (NOT E) are a must, they help by not having such stiff side walls, more plush…this install is not crazy hard, but even this guy makes it look easier than it is- i would say full 6-10 hours is realistic, watch all the Wescott install videos, there are tips in all of them, including using a ratchet strap to line up track bar bolt, just lowering the truck to ground won’t do it, ask me how how I know 😂

The top shim plate is .5" thick and strut bolts aren't long enough for the nuts to get full thread contact. I had to put mine on a lathe and turn it down to .450" to be safe. I now have half a thread sticking above the nut. Seems sketchy to not be able to fully engage a nut
@westcottdesigns Жыл бұрын
It’s designed to catch all the way up to the last thread inside the nut. With the tensile strength of the factory stud it would not ad anymore strength with the stud protruding out the top of the nut. We do suggest customers using red Loctite and torque in the nuts

Does removing the rubber isolater from the bottom spring perch cause any increases in NVH?
@jeffbobbitt49122 жыл бұрын
Why not offer a threaded spring porch with locking rings to allow for different ride heights? True coil over rather than a fixed preload. Do you find this setup creates a stiffer ride since you’ve compressed the spring more and you’ve shortened the stroke? Or do the smaller diameter wheels and taller side wall make up for it? Regardless the parts look great.
@westcottdesigns2 жыл бұрын
We don’t want anyone messing with the height or the ride quality. Because any time the height is changed the alignment has to be done and customers would complain that our lift wore out their tires when they did not do a realignment after making a adjustment and they would blame it on us. The new struts are 2” short the last Gen and the rear shocks are 3/4” shorter so this limits the rebound and amount of adjustment we could do without the ride quality really suffering. Toyota never did it for a reason! I learned a thing or two when I worked for them😉

Have u ever seen on a rough country level kit ,the cheap 100$ kit with just strut spacers pop out passenger cv axle at differential? Its only a 1.75 lift, wondering why it did that and what can i do to prevent it from happening again. Seems bump stop spacer is only for up travel stop, not full droop travel down?
@westcottdesigns Жыл бұрын
We have been seeing that on lifted and non lifted trucks when the truck is in 4 wheel drive on pavement or a surface that is not giving or allowing slip for the tires. This happens when someone turns. The force from the bind has to go somewhere so it finds the weakest link which is the cv joint and causes it to pop out and slap around under the vehicle relieving the force.
@kwmiked Жыл бұрын
@westcottdesigns I guess he heard his pop out on a road with frost heaves, I was assuming it popped out cause of the lift and the woops in the road made it over extend. He was in 2wd. Rule of thumb. If the concern is related to something you changed and you can't put it back to stock then yes. Warranty's are designed to protect the manufacturer while giving the customer a false sense of protection. I personally don't buy extended warranties and it's saved me 5k+ over 20 years.

How much lift are you getting with this, also, this changes the angle of the drive shaft to the rear ends and transmission some is it a concern for pre wear on these items?
@lewiswatchorn72392 жыл бұрын
This is a partial shim system and partial preload system, so there are few things to keep in mind-first, the ride could potentially be harsher in the front because the springs are under more tension due to the thicker spring seat. Installing that thicker spring seat increases spring tension to not allow the suspension to squat as much under its own weight. The second thing to consider is what you’ve asked-because it doesn’t lower the tie rods, control arms, or front differential, the angle of all these components are steeper, which will likely induce more wear.
@scooty672 жыл бұрын
@@lewiswatchorn7239 Thanks for the reply, I just want to fit 33 on my truck but lifting it some is a thought but probably not necessary, I plan on adding new bumpers that will add weight also, so I need to consider the effects of that to the suspension.

Nice leaving parts out I'm sure the engineer at toyota that decided that rubber insulator need to be there is not nearly as smart as you
@westcottdesigns2 жыл бұрын
Toyota use the rubber isolator on the bottom of the strut where the spring sits because it is a steel collar and isolator grounds out the vibration that would transfer into the vehicle without the isolator, because we use a billet aluminum lower spring perch it causes it to grounds out the vibration this is the exact same thing Toyota does as well on the TRD PRO models as well. @IcatchTuna2 жыл бұрын
I'm not an expert , but I just ordered mine, got the raw aluminum. My reasoning I work on heavy trucks for a living, air tanks, fuel tanks, hydraulic tanks all come on these truck raw. The environment they see is 100 times worse than anything a personal truck will, and the tanks last the life of the truck. That’s not the case. Done right it will never cause any problems. Buy shitty parts that have not been engineered correctly will for sure cause problems. We test a ton of other companies parts that fail or will cause failure which can be seen in in some of our suspension videos. I have been doing my kits since 2015 when I still worked for Toyota on the first TRD pros when they came out. Over 20,000 kits out on the road and trucks with over 100k miles on them and not one failure. That has to say something.
