Yeah... the problem is he still loses to removal himself unless you copy him and even then anger or something similar hurts this deck badly. It can't recover from wraths and this build really needs the aether vails badly. So... play merfolk for a more competitive deck

I've found that Dive Down works really well with this deck as a way to protect your Lord of the Unreal. It also comes in handy as a cheap combat trick too. No one expects it in modern.

Thanks for revisiting the Illusion Tribal deck, Seth. Probably my 2nd favorite Mono-Blue tribe in ALL of Magic! Now if you ask me, homeboy shoulda stuck in some Æther Figments and maybe a Phantasmal Warrior or two. Both are unlockable and Æther Figment, a 2 drop, can be kicked and get absolutely *HUGE* with some Lords on the field! Plus neither have the "Sacrifice if targeted" drawback👍

I played this very deck with a few small swap outs for over a year. It is fun for sure, but Merfolk is better. Try swapping out the vendillion clique with Adaptive automoton. Becomes an illusion and also costs 3 for more aether vial options..

Saffron Olive, Meloku, The Clouded Mirror is a possible add. You can make 1/1 Illusion fliers that get pumped up by lord of the unreal.

Adaptive Automoton could work as a secondary lord. Grand Architect is another good option.

One of the very first Against the Odds decks was Illusions, but that was almost three years ago now! So if you're an old timer you've probably seen it before, but hopefully the idea is new to some people at least.

I dont think so. Phanrasmal bear is not targeted by these effects, just affected by them

No, because according to mimic, they enter WITH the counter, not enter then gain the counter

This is one of my favorite decks to play except I use Adaptive Automaton instead of Mimic and Phantasmal Warrior has won me so many games. I keep a couple of Hover Walls on the sideboard too. Question. Is Mimic Superior to Automaton? I just see most people prefer Mimic, the counters are permanent, yes, but I just haven't had success with it.

I play Automaton over Mimic because I feel that Automaton just works way better with aether vial, particularly for vialing in during combat. It also gives you a 3 drop to go along with Illusory Angel for vial on 3

Geoxsan maybe, but it is sacrificed if targeted. Even with hexproof from the Lord, it is more resilient in my opinion, and in this deck it isn't too hard to cast the angel with vial and cheap spells

I would cut the bears to use counters maybe (side in spell Pierce, or use Mana leak/remands). I like the jaces phantasms though, can be a 5/5 flyer late game with evasion.

Why not play Kira, Great Glass-Spinner instead of the two Clique's? I mean, you might lose the on spot removal but Kira gives even the uncopied lords another level of protection?

If you can find room, yep! Not sure it will be enough to consistently turn on Phantasm, but it wouldn't hurt.
