Oil Burner

Күн бұрын

A very easy to build Oil burner that lights easily and requires very few parts and little effort to build. Please share, reddit, like and comment on this vid and don't forget to check out all the other vids on my channel.
As can be seen in the vid, this oil burner is very easy to assemble from just a few easy to get and cheap parts. It lights up very easily even on waste Vegetable oil. The burner comprises 2 main parts, the oil burner assembly and the pressurized Fuel tank.
Any old pressure vessel will do for the pressurised oil feed such as old LPG tanks because the pressure required to operate this burner is only around 20 PSI.
The fittings are all for 1/4"copper or PEX tubing and are easily available at industrial suppliers, hardware stores or even some car parts places. They are cheap and require no special tools to assemble the burner.
DIY Waste Oil Burner for high power heating and Melting for scrapping. Build demonstration and first firing up to show running. PLEASE read the rest of this description and look at the other vids on my channel of this burner before asking questions about how it operates, what it does or what it can be used for.
Waste oil burner designed for melting scrap aluminium and maybe copper as well as foundary use. The burner will run on any waste oil including used engine oil, waste vegetable oil, transmission fluid or even liquid lard.
The test was successful however in that the burner fired up easily even with nearly every less than ideal factor against it and ran well given the low air supply. I expect it to be a very different beast when fed sufficient Oxygen.

You made me laugh. I'm sure glad I found your video. I need a burner to smelt aluminium. I really want to use waste oil. Today, I went out and using an old car rim, a 12v blower, a ceramic crucible and a bunch of scrap wood (i was at the local illegal dumping ground outside of town) i managed to produce one and a half aluminium muffins. So happy. But took way too long. Tomorrow, I'm going to try making your Burner. Thanks for posting!

I bought the 90o elbow and the nipple the other day when I thought to enclose it but other than that, it was just bits and pieces I had in the box of air and assorted small fittings. Some of the other Burner designs I see must take 4 trips to the industrial supply place to get them all.

+tapper88 Thanks for the kind words. So many of the burner designs I see here amaze me in their complication, expense and difficulty to build yet I don't see they do anything different to what this much simpler oil burner does. I have read many times that people even have trouble with the siphon nozzles getting them to fire on Diesel! It's only fire we are trying to achieve here not 10Kn of thrust to launch a space Vehicle. :0)

+Oil Burner hahah you brought it to the point. i wanted to build an oil burner and looked up on yt and saw great burners but all to expensive and to complicated. then i looked up the venturi effect and build a provisoric oil sprayer out of some crap and it worked with the atomization but i didnt put it into a tube and i tried to lighting vegie oil and it didnt work. so next weekend i will ad a tube and make this one which you presented. im happy that i found this video showing me that im not wrong with my simple idea :D
@glumpy10
@glumpy10 8 жыл бұрын
D Bb Simple is always best although sometimes we have the right idea, but it just needs a little tweaking. If you have trouble with your burner running, put a bit of metal , something perforated is best, inside the tube. This acts like a " glow plug" and will heat up and help the oil ignite. Even though the oil is sprayed, it still needs heat to Change it from a liquid to a gas to burn. Look forward to hearing/ seeing how you go with it.

wow thanks for the fast reply. ok nice i wouldnt think of that. i couldn t run or burn the oil because it wasnt in a tube and it wasnt preheated i just made a very simpel spray gun out of scrap ( and i mean it so it was a t-piece copper pipe fitting with just a rubber pipe for the oil and a rubber pipe for the air. if the air outlet is a little hole it expands in the t-fitting and soak the oil. it was pretty nice to see it working with a piece of trash. i will test it and i will reply to you. you are very kind/gentle and you make nice burners :D sry for my english im from poland

My Oil Burner wasn't a complete failure. I managed to get it fired up but it's just not producing enough of a flame to fill my furnace. I think the problem is with the oil supply. At the moment I have a 4mm garden reticulation hose going into a air-compressor fitting and that filling into a small bit of plastic hose and then the hose onto a metal feeder. The oil is really only dribbling into the tube that feeds the hot blower cylinder. Cool to see this idea working but disappointing it's not got a big enough flame. I will work on the feed and see if this makes a difference. But I'm leaning towards an compressed-air driven system now. I saw someone using a spraygun and another air supply. That is my backup plan. HAPPY DAYS!

you are very good at giving the tutorials, and the burners you make are krazy with a k! im struggling with my set up, ive been running propane i want to swith to waste oil what a fu@#ing mess ive made of the garage i used to be able to get away with cooking a charge at the edge of the garage with the door cracked maybe 1ft this is a whole new animal ive struggled all weekend and now i have to clean a mess im not sure will come out. anyways, after this tutorial i think ive got 'er figured out im gonna use a wee lil lpg tank as a pressure tank hmm i wonder if i can rig up a fridge compressor i have 2 sitting on the floor ones already wired im gonna have to figure out a pressure switch so i can keep pressure in the tank at 20psi without blowing the lines off the compressor. pvc pipe, a jet ball, marble, or ball bearing on a spring???? anyways cheers from canada and keep up the jolly good work gov'nor
@glumpy10
@glumpy10 8 жыл бұрын
+mikey worth Hi Mike, Thanks for the kind words. I think you will find a fridge compressor might work OK with this design directly coupled. My mate had an airless spray gun compressor feeding direct into this and because of the bleed off it sat nicely at 20 PSI. I don't think a fridge compressor would put out enough air to need regulating if directly coupled. Give it a go and see if it's ok or you need to go to more trouble.

I do have one little question. I notice that you had the tubing sticking way into the tee. Seems like would reach just about to the meeting of the two ports in the middle. Almost like you were trying for venturi action. Is this a neccesary detail, or just what you had on hand?
@VerifyVeracity
@VerifyVeracity Жыл бұрын
I've been watching this type of burner of your's (I've watched them quite a few times). I have a thought, do you think it would help to make the end tube that is crimped down (i.e. the burner) longer & make it go in further down the pipe then turn back some then turn back facing down the pipe again so that the flame would be blasting the tube (with the oil/air in it) thus preheating the oil/air before it sprays out into the pipe? Now I know it might be better to use a steel automobile brake line for that part so it would handle the temperature better. I have a real nice (I hope) system that I'm working that use's wood & forced air, but I think I could use some extra heat, & maybe just not even use the wood at all & just use a waist oil heater. I'm not sure which type I'll use but I'm leaning on the type you have in this video, although then I would need to bring my air compressor to the melt sight but that is really no big deal. I do like the one you have that is a 55 gal. drum on it's side that is tilted back a little & the AL just drips out the back. That would be great for getting the AL storied up for casting at another time. Thanks a lot for the uploads. I used to think that if the USA gets any crazier I would move to the land down under, but I'm would never get the Vax, & it seems that a lot of the government is full of the devil where you live just like here, so sad. I live in South Texas USA. Thanks again.

I like it, but think the compressor can be taken out of the equation. I'm thinking something in the way of a small oil pump that makes 30 - 50 psi. and a blower as used in your drip type burners. Just as a pump up sprayer works. So maybe one of your old Chevy oil pumps on a smaller scale or a much lower RPM. Or the pump from a salamander heater or old boiler unit. Being in the tropics, (Florida), I don't ever see boilers anywhere to tinker with parts, but from years back I do remember a perfect pump from them..
@glumpy10
@glumpy10 8 жыл бұрын
+Steve 1961P. The oil only Nozzles run at about 100 PSI and they are specially designed. I had in mind to run a power steering pump which would do over 1000 PSI if required. Maybe at a couple of hundred PSI a crude nozzle could be made to spray effectively? Maybe one of the micro brass types could be used which would make the whole setup even easier?

@glumpy10 8 жыл бұрын
+Roberto .Cavanagh You're right, it's not nearly as powerful as a lot of my other burners. It could be made a lot more powerful but then a person may as well just use one of the other designs. Strangely enough, I have become aware that there isn't all that many people that need a 2-600Kw burner and a 100Kw output covers their needs. I know, Strange! I have come up with a very practical Idea for this thing that I am currently putting together. Stay Tuned! :0)

@glumpy10 8 жыл бұрын
+Larry Maloney Yes, it is! That's why I personally prefer the other types of burners I mainly have which just used blown or forced air. There are a lot of people however in the metal casting interest group that are particularly enthusiastic about spray burners. The majority of them also use the manufactured nozzles which are expensive, fiddly, frequently don't work very well and put them in very complicated setups using a dozen or more fittings. This burner was to demonstrate that a very simple and straightforward setup could work even better than most of the complicated setups. But, you're right, MUCH cheaper and less wear and tear on your gear to run a blown oil burner than a spray type.
