It’s so nice you make an effort to speak French. Your hist probably speak English but you did your effort. This is so kind. Here in Montreal, how often in a meeting we switch to English as soon there is one single anglophone in the room even if the rest of the 25 attendees are french. I guess it’s probably because we can all talk in English but the poor guy...he speak only English. This is Montreal hospitality as well.

I love thick cut bacon but we never eat it fast enough in our house. So I started to pre-cook most of the slices ahead of time and always hold back a few slices from each package and cut them up in small pieces and pop them into the freezer for occasions, like this, where bacon is needed but only as an enhancement. So convenient!

OK! I finally opened my IP and did the water test so that I could cook this recipe (with a few of my personal tweeks of course). I always used to cook my beef bourguinon in the oven for 3-4 hours. This was perfect! Now I know that my IP works properly, so I am no longer worried about sending it by courier to Spain. Thanks so much for the inspiration Flo. I don't know whether I would have had the courage without watching your videos! I have also watched a few of your holiday videos this summer. You really gave me some good memories, as I grew up in Calgary, a lot of my family lives near Toronto nad it was just great to see those moments! I don't get back to Canada very often - maybe once every 3-4 years - and I can only do one area at a time. I was reminded of my childhood, when me and my brother flew out to Toronto with an airline minder to spend a summer with my grandparents. My mum and dad would drive 2,000 miles from Calgary to Toronto to spend time with the whole family and drive us back to Calgary before then school year began again in September. I must admit though.... I am jealous! I have never been east of Toronto! Looking forward to hearing more about your holiday! Thanks for being you!

I remember driving to Toronto... It was either 3 -4 days and thinking that as you came to Sault Saint Marie, you were driving in cirlces, or when my brother broke his leg at my grandma's..... 18 hours non-stop (my mum and dad shared driving). You have made me not miss Canada so much!

Love my new Instant Pot. Like your videos. I made the best gumbo I believe I’ve ever made yesterday with my new Instant Pot. I’ve made beef bourguignon several time the old fashion way. It’s simply jaw dropping delicious. Question: I’ve always made sure that my beef pieces were able to undergo the Maillard reaction. It entensifies the beef flavor to the stratosphere. How to do this using an Instant Pot?
@FloLum5 жыл бұрын
You should be able to adjust your IP sauté function to higher heat. Make sure it's hot and brown your beef in batches, don't overcrowd. The sear in the IP is never as great as a cast iron but it does a decent job without having to wash another pot. Hope that helps.
@jackwebb4375 жыл бұрын
Flo Lum I’ve been preparing steaks in the sous vide water bath. When I am ready to reverse sear the steak I will preheat the cast iron skillet in an oven to 500 F. Then place skillet on the stove to keep it hot. Placing the sous vide steak on the grill gives it a great char finish. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

Guys! Great video as usual. I was actually looking for a beef bourguignon recipe and was happy to find it on your channel, which I thoroughly enjoy. Well maybe not the yam fries, but I digress. Do you always travel with your instant pot and children? I understand the IPot, but do you ever leave you kids at home when you travel? Kidding! As always, said with tongue planted firmly in cheek. BTW, for what it's worth, and in Quebec French at least, the "L" in parsley is silent. IPot newbie, but growing enthusiast.

Well that was outstanding. Velvety, flavorful gravy that's got a tanginess to it that I'm not sure how to account for. Maybe the red wine? A cup and a half is a bunch. Possible the thyme? I couldn't stomach the $4 for a sorry looking little bundle of fresh thyme so I went with two teaspoons of thyme in a tea ball along with a fair amount of dried parsley. And excellent first dish out of my eight quart, Munchkin hot tub-sized Instant Pot.
