Thanks for this recipe! It was my 1st time using my Instant Pot (after getting it for Christmas a year and a half ago). I was missing the coriander and the gran masala on the first try, but the chicken still turned out amazing. Now I have all of the ingredients, so I'll be making it again tonight. The Instant Pot is a good alternative to using the oven for those of us in small apartments who want to avoid getting their home too hot.

I was getting my 2qt pressure cooker set up to cook 2chicken legs from a recipe that I have but I was watching others just to get good tricks on how to make my recipes better. I immediately took out my chicken and put it on top of foil! I did cook my legs for 12 minutes because I like the meat a little softer. I'd like to clarify how the Instant Pot works; primarily to clarify why 10 minutes of cooking time is enough and why this figure is confusing/misleading: Note0: TLDR timeline break time of actual cooking time at the bottom. Note1: The chicken was resting to room temperature during the 15-20 minute while it was marinating. Note2: (Pressure + Temperature) reduces cooking time... keep this in mind as you read the following. The instant pot can take anywhere between 5 - 20 minutes for pre-heating; depending on how much you have in the pot. This pre-heating process significantly raises the temperature and pressure inside the pot. To the point that you can hear liquid boiling inside; it is at this point that the timer for the 10 minutes actually starts (at preset PSI of internal pressure - depending on your setting). Hence the actual cooking time is longer than "10 minutes". The timer ensures the food is cooked for X number of minutes in ideal - peak temperature/pressure. In the case of this recipe; where the pressure is on high. Furthermore, she also let the instant pot naturally de-pressurize by letting it sit in the pot for an additional 15 minutes. The actual cooking time is approximately 25-35 minutes. I hope this clears up the information for those that are new to instant pot cooking... thanks for reading. TLDR Timeline for cooking room temperature chicken drum sticks: 1) Instant Pot Pre-heating: 5-20 mins (depending how much you have in the pot) - this raises internal perssure/temps. 2) High Pressure Cooking: 10 minutes 3) Natural pressure release: 15 minutes Actual Cooking time: approximately 25-35 minutes

@thasneen3 жыл бұрын
Since you have added yogurt it wouldn't have the grilled effect while pressure cooking in the Instant Pot, moisture in the yogurt will prevent the chicken from turning brown. After pressure cooking, has to be either air fried or broiled in the oven for that perfect grilled effect. Hope this helps.

The only problem that I had was that even after adding 5 more minutes than you on my pressure cooker for a total cooking time of 15 minutes my chicken drumsticks came out extremely rare. Did you use fully thawed drumsticks & was the pressure at high? (note: frozen chicken will take more time to cook- 20 mins) I've used fully thawed drumsticks, 10 mins at high pressure it was cooked well- it wasn't fall apart though. Usually, 15 mins of pressure cooking at high pressure I find the meat to be falling apart- even with whole chicken. For chicken drumsticks, 25 mins seems too high. I would say it must be the kind of chicken you have used, might have required more cooking time. Thanks for your feedback though :)

I tried this recipe tonight, but my chicken legs looks too wet, white, not a little dryer like yours (which is what I was going for). I also cooked them 30 minutes the first time, and they still didn’t look right. I have now put them on 15 more minutes. By now they would’ve cooked perfectly in the oven.
@thasneen4 жыл бұрын
In the Instant Pot at high pressure, chicken legs will be fully cooked in just 10 minutes. I’ve been making this quite often and I’ve never cooked chicken for more than 15 minutes in IP. 30 minutes will result in totally mashed up chicken. I’m surprised to learn it took 45 minutes to pressure cook the chicken in IP. Did you cook at high pressure using thawed chicken? Frozen chicken might take 20 minutes, but not 45 mins. Trying to understand what went wrong, is it taking too long when you cook other dishes too? If so, i assume something is wrong with IP heating & pressure setting. If you are finding this an issue, please contact IP customer support and they will ship a new one to you. Hope this helps, thanks for letting me know :)

Cooking with Thas it’s the strangest thing. Today I put them on the slow cook function for 4 hours, and those drumsticks are still high g the bone! Unbelievable. My hubster is half Fijian, and he said his family has had rooster before and it was an all day affair to cook it, so he suspects these big drumsticks to be rooster meat and not hen meat. I’ve cooked them now 4 different ways, and they still won’t fall off the bone. I never ate rooster meat, so I believe him. I’m frustrated nonetheless. Thank you for responding.

Cooking with Thas I had such a hard time with those rooster drumsticks! It’s comical now to think back about it. I definitely learned something new. I bought them at a Mexican Meat Market and thought “wow, look at those big meaty drumsticks, I bet they’ll be delicious!” How wrong I was!! lol!! I never knew the difference between hen & rooster meat. So now I refer to those rooster drumsticks as “the angry rooster meat!” HAHAHAHA! I’m literally so traumatized by that angry rooster, that I’m sticking to chicken breasts for now, lol. This post had me laughing so much recalling those darn drumsticks, because it was such a laborious chore to get that meat to cook! I’m a pretty great cook usually, and I felt like an amateur back in a high school cooking class, but even then, I was the best cook in the class because my Momma taught me to cook since I was very young. I literally tried every cooking method on earth to get that angry rooster meat to cook, and it still didn’t taste all that great, lol. Note: never ever ever buy big fat drumsticks, they’re probably angry rooster legs!! 🤣😂🤣🤣. I’ll have to try your recipe when I’m done with “rooster drumstick trauma therapy!” lol, just kidding. I’ll try your recipe when I get some regular Foster Farms chicken drumsticks, because your recipe looks amazing! Then I’ll update you on my experience. Thank you so much for sticking with me to help figure out a solution, you are truly awesome. It’s funny that I taught you something through my experience too, 😁😆.
