This vegetable dish a game change for eating vegetables in the morning. I made the recipe today (with addition of diced tomato's) and it is great. I cannot get enough vegetables. The pot liquor is very delicious. Now I know what the big deal is about pot liquor.

Thank you. I like to comment about starting the day with veggies to keep your blood sugar stable. I have been following Bright Line Eating for two years, and this is also the emphasis - 3 servings of veggies a day. I love how I feel when I use veggies to fill me up rather than breads.

Honestly? Fabulous. Have just become an IP owner because I love pearl barley, as opposed to rice. This is great. The zero minutes technique works for so many non-starchy vegetables. Lots of love from the UK. 👍🇬🇧😀

Thank you for the video. Did you know that you can toggle the keep warm function on and off? After setting your time and pressure, if you press "manual" twice instead of once, it shuts off the keep warm so that the IP shuts off completely when done cooking. If you press "manual" a third time, it toggles back to keep warm on. And so forth.

Hello from Rocklin for Tammi and Tom. We just watched this and got two important tips. One was setting time to ZERO. We gave up on steaming with the IP because 1 minute was too long. Second was to drink the water. Let us share 2 tips for you. Check out the neat Instant Pot Steamer Basket which just fits our 6 qt. instant pot. It's feet keep the veggies out of the water. A second tip would be to use less water to speed up the process. Of course that would mean less pot liquor. You and Tom can sort that out. Great show!! Jim & Teddie

I just hit the jackpot in discovering this video when I was searching for how to steam Broccoli. I enjoyed it so much, I certainly will be joining and looking for more helpful Instant Pot cooking from you. I just purchased the Duo Plus 9-in-one, and am in the learning stage. I had seen the Elbow tip, but now will certainly purchase one at the 45 degree opposed to the 90 degree elbows that are being sold especially for the pot. Stands to reason why a 45 is better than 90. Please keep your videos like this coming.

Deciding whether to buy one. I use a rice cooker with a steamer basket. It looks like it probably takes the same amount of time. I have two slow cookers and a rice cooker. Thanks for the ideas about the pot holder, the vent, and saving the "Pot Liquor". I make green smoothies and I think that would be good for that. I also like the stainless steel insert. I make brown rice and steel cut oatmeal and it sticks to my rice cooker.

I have never used the steam setting, just high pressure 0 minutes. we don't use the basket either as we want the veggies in contact with the water to make the pot liquor. I am unaware off what changes occur in the "steam" setting.

Hello Eugene, This is Tom---please visit www.nutmegnotebook.com/shop You will find the common pipe fitting there next to the instant pot items. nothing special, just a plastic pipe fitting, we tried one of the commercial ones and it didn't work well- the weight of it messed with the valve seal. @NutmegNotebook

Yes, you can pick it up at any hardware store, (45degree though, not 90) The one we show in the description fits the Instant Pot Duo. Check the total diameter of your steam relaese valve though as Instant Pot changed there valve on thier newer models and our fitting does not fit the new IP. would need the next size bigger.

The device you used for redirecting the steam is awesome! Does that have a name? What do I ask for? Maybe on Amazon? Thank you SO much. This steam has been problematic for me as I’m always concerned about the steam rising towards the ceiling (and yes, it would be ultimately more convenient operating under a cabinet). Head bow to you.

thanks for your video. i have an issue with my instant pot. i also like steamed veggies al dente. so i dropped my veggies into the pot and added 2.5 cups of water. my instant pot does not have a 'manual' button, so i assume 'pressure cook' is the same. i pressed that and set the time for 0 minutes. i waited for 15 minutes and the timer never kicked in. the display just said 'on'. so i got worried and flipped the vent lever open. the instant pot vented for 30 minutes until all of the liquid inside had steamed out and left me with a pile of veggie mush. any tips or suggestions?

I just bought the Costco dried mushrooms. The instructions are way too much work! I've been soaking mine overnight in the refrigerator. I like your method. Just take some mushrooms out of the jar, and add them to the pot. No soaking, washing.

Since making the video we have discovered that when you get down to the bottom of the container there can be some sandy grit in the mushrooms and they do need a rinse!

I'm confuse. When steaming something it usually means that the veggies don't touch the water. They are cooked by steam only. Meaning the water is below the steam basket.

We don"t use the steamer basket usually as we like that 2 1/2 cups of water in the bottom of the pot to turn into that wonderful tasting pot liquor. the veggies fill the pot nearly 2/3 full so the majority of the veggies are 'Steamed" and the bottom 1 inch layer is immersed in the water. We have used the steamer insert shown here amzn.to/2SkDPnY and use only two cups of water and you will get 100% steamed veggies. and no pot liquor. If you prefer.

Pressing manual means pressure cooking, not lightly steaming, doesn't it? I'm looking for a video showing the use of the steaming button because I want my food to be more alive than pressure blasting it.

Steam uses “constant” heating for a faster cycle. That would likely work fine as well. I don’t know how it would affect the outcome but worth a try.

Your method seems to be boiled and not steamed vegetables as the food is in the water and not above it. Is it possible to actually steam food WITHOUT pressure in the Instant Pot?
@NutmegNotebook
@NutmegNotebook 5 жыл бұрын
We don't use the basket as we want the veggies in contact with the water to make the pot liquor. The instant pot does have a special "Steam Setting" to use with a basket to keep the veggies above the water.

Sometimes my husband was finding grit towards the bottom of the jar so it's a good idea to rinse them first.

Just checked the label and it states on the directions to rinse them in warm water before using - must be a common issue!

You "steamed" veggies, but I didn't see you use any kind of strainer in the bottom of the instant pot. Did you have something on the bottom that you didn't show? Thanks so much for all you do! I follow you religiously! :)
@NutmegNotebook

No I didn't use any kind of strainer because I want the water to become flavored from the vegetables so I can also consume it. Thank you for following me - I really appreciate it!

Then use the pressure cook button to set your time. IP has different models and the button functions can be different depending on what model you have.

We use "0" minutes as the vegies are done by the time it reaches temperature. so no additional time is needed. more time may only make them mushy. Happy Cooking Tami
