Thank you for the video. Did you know that you can toggle the keep warm function on and off? After setting your time and pressure, if you press "manual" twice instead of once, it shuts off the keep warm so that the IP shuts off completely when done cooking. If you press "manual" a third time, it toggles back to keep warm on. And so forth.

Hello from Rocklin for Tammi and Tom. We just watched this and got two important tips. One was setting time to ZERO. We gave up on steaming with the IP because 1 minute was too long. Second was to drink the water. Let us share 2 tips for you. Check out the neat Instant Pot Steamer Basket which just fits our 6 qt. instant pot. It's feet keep the veggies out of the water. A second tip would be to use less water to speed up the process. Of course that would mean less pot liquor. You and Tom can sort that out. Great show!! Jim & Teddie

@NutmegNotebook5 жыл бұрын
I have never used the steam setting, just high pressure 0 minutes. we don't use the basket either as we want the veggies in contact with the water to make the pot liquor. I am unaware off what changes occur in the "steam" setting.

Hello Eugene, This is Tom---please visit www.nutmegnotebook.com/shop You will find the common pipe fitting there next to the instant pot items. nothing special, just a plastic pipe fitting, we tried one of the commercial ones and it didn't work well- the weight of it messed with the valve seal. Best Regards Tom--NutmegNotebook.com
@lulamamie85244 жыл бұрын
Hey! Is that plastic piece just a piece of pvc pipe on a 90 degree angle?? Please advise. Thank You 😊
@NutmegNotebook4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can pick it up at any hardware store, (45degree though, not 90) The one we show in the description fits the Instant Pot Duo. Check the total diameter of your steam relaese valve though as Instant Pot changed there valve on thier newer models and our fitting does not fit the new IP. would need the next size bigger.
@ziggy333996 жыл бұрын
The device you used for redirecting the steam is awesome! Does that have a name? What do I ask for? Maybe on Amazon? Thank you SO much. This steam has been problematic for me as I’m always concerned about the steam rising towards the ceiling (and yes, it would be ultimately more convenient operating under a cabinet). Head bow to you.

thanks for your video. i have an issue with my instant pot. i also like steamed veggies al dente. so i dropped my veggies into the pot and added 2.5 cups of water. my instant pot does not have a 'manual' button, so i assume 'pressure cook' is the same. i pressed that and set the time for 0 minutes. i waited for 15 minutes and the timer never kicked in. the display just said 'on'. so i got worried and flipped the vent lever open. the instant pot vented for 30 minutes until all of the liquid inside had steamed out and left me with a pile of veggie mush. any tips or suggestions?

I just bought the Costco dried mushrooms. The instructions are way too much work! I've been soaking mine overnight in the refrigerator. I like your method. Just take some mushrooms out of the jar, and add them to the pot. No soaking, washing.

Since making the video we have discovered that when you get down to the bottom of the container there can be some sandy grit in the mushrooms and they do need a rinse!
@realgagne29565 жыл бұрын
I'm confuse. When steaming something it usually means that the veggies don't touch the water. They are cooked by steam only. Meaning the water is below the steam basket.
@NutmegNotebook5 жыл бұрын
We don"t use the steamer basket usually as we like that 2 1/2 cups of water in the bottom of the pot to turn into that wonderful tasting pot liquor. the veggies fill the pot nearly 2/3 full so the majority of the veggies are 'Steamed" and the bottom 1 inch layer is immersed in the water. We have used the steamer insert shown here amzn.to/2SkDPnY and use only two cups of water and you will get 100% steamed veggies. and no pot liquor. If you prefer.
@georgiagreen79164 жыл бұрын
Pressing manual means pressure cooking, not lightly steaming, doesn't it? I'm looking for a video showing the use of the steaming button because I want my food to be more alive than pressure blasting it.
@NutmegNotebook4 жыл бұрын
Steam uses “constant” heating for a faster cycle. That would likely work fine as well. I don’t know how it would affect the outcome but worth a try.
@malanstecker5 жыл бұрын
Your method seems to be boiled and not steamed vegetables as the food is in the water and not above it. Is it possible to actually steam food WITHOUT pressure in the Instant Pot?
@NutmegNotebook5 жыл бұрын
We don't use the basket as we want the veggies in contact with the water to make the pot liquor. The instant pot does have a special "Steam Setting" to use with a basket to keep the veggies above the water.

Then use the pressure cook button to set your time. IP has different models and the button functions can be different depending on what model you have.

Do you adjust the time only one minute..
@NutmegNotebook6 жыл бұрын
We use "0" minutes as the vegies are done by the time it reaches temperature. so no additional time is needed. more time may only make them mushy. Happy Cooking Tami
