Loved this video. Simple, to the point and gave me a foundation to start with building my fretboard knowledge. I'm 70 plus years old and taught myself to read and play music 2.5 years ago. I am intermediate level on the keyboard. I needed and wanted something more to make me learn faster and the guitar is where it's at. I practice both the guitar and keyboard daily. I have 3 weeks on the fretboard and my fingers are just now getting to the point where I can press the strings without grimacing from the pain. I find the fretboard is helping me to learn my scales and chord progressions at a much faster pace. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

Favourite Guitarist Mark Knopfler, this was a brilliant lesson, as I have been playing guitar for 54 years but don't have a clue about the Scales, my wife bought me an Electric guitar for my 65th birthday and its been a revelation for me because I've always played acoustic, and never really improved much because I did not practice enough but the Electric guitar has brought me so much fun and different sounds and I find that i have so much more interest and enthusiasm to learn more Many Thanks for such a brilliant video to inspire us all to Learn and enjoy the guitar more 😀

I've rarely learned anything from youtube guitar videos, so much jargon. Immediately expect a person to understand words like "semi-tone" "E major" ,"sharp", "flat" as soon as you arrive... This video is astounding! Every piece of jargon was explained as it went along giving the single most productive plain-english instructional video I've ever seen! Excellent work, I think you're going to enable a lot of new music in the world.

SO many guitarists to choose from across varying styles and genres, it's tough to pick just one...but for a "magic wand wave" I'd have to choose Rik Emmett. As a life-long bass player, who is now learning to play guitar, I thought this lesson was so valuable in transferring what I've heard so many of my guitarist friends play over the years and getting a really good understanding of jumping from four strings to six. Your teaching style is fantastic. Your explanations are clear and the camera work really helps open up for the visual learners out there. I can't wait to share these videos with my six year old. She loves sing alongs and is the reason I picked up a guitar. Always a die-hard bass player, but this really helped me relax and fall into the movement on the guitar neck.

Love the video mate!! Finally someone posts a method and a structure that I can use, as opposed to just a finger pattern to copy or mimic for any given song. This is incredibly useful stuff, and the beauty of it is the simplicity of it all. Not trying to impress me (confidence on your part), you are teaching me! Like very much how you tie it all together, it just made sense to me! Thank you! Now, I have to practice :)

I have been playing for close to 60 years but have not been playing out for the last several and was looking at some refreshers. You video is a great basic starter lesson. If I may make a suggestion, it would help if you would turn your tab at the bottom over so your notes and your fingers are moving the same direction. It's probably just me but it was sort of confusing with playing the guitar one direction and the tab going the other. Thank you for all your work in putting this together and keep up the great work!

I picked up the basic pattern awhile back and also knew about the scales from previous music classes. So I was able to get more into the advanced areas you showed. Never too late too learn a new lick or two. While I admire a bunch of great guitar players, if I could rip off some scorching riffs like Stevie Ray does in Crossfire, I would be pretty damn happy with myself. The most interesting part of the lesson for me was two-fold. First the sliding two frets up at the upper end of the pattern and second, just watching how you tied it all together in an extended melody.

Give me Gilmour. He doesn’t need flashy, speedy technical displays of playing (though he’s certainly capable of it), he doesn’t need to show off. His focus is on picking *just* the perfect series of notes played in *just* the right way to make you feel things you thought you weren’t capable of feeling then make your face melt like the guys in Indiana Jones. He has something that can’t really be taught, so that’s why I’d want it.

Great Great Lesson! I want to know if the solo chords are C, F G, do you change the pentatonic scale every time the rhythm player changes chords? Or would you stay in C the whole time?
@solofox85462 жыл бұрын
Hitting the root note(home) on the chord changes to help the groove. For example c note on c chord then go through random stuff f note on f chord then go random till it's time for the next chord change. helpful to guide you to soloing. In a c chord is c e and g so emphasize those note over the c chord to keep the c sound ... F chord is made up of f a and c notes so emphasize those notes when f chord is playing. It's all the same notes in the c scale though. You merely are just highlighting the chords

Being a lefty , I have to use more brain power to invert scales. I have to basically reverse everything except actual music notation & tabs. When I was a beginner, it really helped me to scribe my own LH chords next to the RH ones just to minimize the brain power of having to look at everything backwards. If I had the resources, I'd teach a course based on 10% of the lefties on the planet
