It’s amazing how I have bought $10k of stuff this past month alone yet it has been stressful because each time I can’t afford the best version of that thing. It’s amazing that in the act of buying more stuff I’m actually finding myself even less content. The best feeling has got to be being content and not letting your level of satisfaction be determined by shopping lists and material. Knowing all that, I still find myself at the altar of material things.

I´ve noticed that I sometimes regret having decluttered something - but I forget that that item was part of a huge amount of junk that was clogging up my home and weighing me down. It is worth the "mistakes". And, like you, realising that I basically always wear the same shades of nailpolish or lipstick really helped me to reduce the amount of those I have. When I started studying as a mature student a year ago, I decided to get a capsule wardrobe ready and I love it. I´ll definitely check out your video on that. Having a large choice of outfits is overrated and stressful.

@leenlovesdancing35613 жыл бұрын

@miyounova3 жыл бұрын
I think everything, including the capsule wardrobe idea, is relative. I have a small amount of clothes with me, because I had to move countries in a rush and couldn't prep my thing to be sent where I am. I chose things that are versatile and some of them, I truly love. But 1 year and a half later (actually a lot earlier than that really), I miss having more clothes. I'm bored with what I have, because I have to wear the same thing over and over again. Fashion is something I love, so I want to be able to have more options, depending on my mood. So for me, a capsule wardrobe absolutely never works. But that's simply because of what I love, which is changing up styles, because I like a lot of things and I feel good in lots of things. Someone who has 1 particular style would probably not want to have as much as I have. Not to say I should have a ton of stuff, but what I do want to have is bigger than a capsule wardrobe would usually allow. Others might have a hobby for which they need to have more things than usual. So I think a lot of us will have 1 or 2 areas in which we simply have more than what others think would be necessary or acceptable.

I don't declutter during the holidays but I also don't bring much in during the holidays. I declutter at the change of seasons as I live in a 4 season climate with big temperature changes. This is a good prompt for me to take a hard look at our space. We live in a tiny home with little storage so it is important to be very mindful about what comes into our home. As for decluttering, we don't have a lot that is not in use. I do keep a small donation box by the door that things can be placed into when they no longer suit us.

Lovely video. Here are my tips: Decluttering food IS A MUST. You don't want to get sick, especially in 2021. One thing I do have is a stock box where i keep things i bought in large quantities. Instead of buying more clothes, take all your clothes, put them on the bed and make outfits out of the clothing. mix and match by trying them on and add belts and scarfs to the hanger. So in the morning, just pick up and go ! If you can't resist the urge to shop on Amazon, before you buy, keep the items in wish list, you will then go back to it and realize, you dont actually want that item.(down side to this is you waste time) You can also have a shopping folder on your browser full of your bookmarks. It always nice to stay physically and digitally tidy lol, ;-) Much love xx

But if it duplicates of things/products you use.. Then use them up... That is better than throwing them away... which is a waste of money, but more importantly, very bad for the environment! I so agree.. I have heard people say that they regret getting rid of sentiment things.. I have taken several years for that category (because it is the only category that is irreplaceable) and at least 5x going through my sentiment stuff to declutter it. My last go last year, I used the Swedish Death Cleaning method.. And asked myself "if I died tomorrow, would I want my family to see or read this?".. If my answer was "No" then I got rid of it.. Using this method, I got rid of 95% of old school stuff, Diaries and letters.. It was great! Now I have my photo album scrapbooks for my world travels, one little box of childhood toys and one little box of other sentiment. I will go through that one again next year and see if I feel ready to get rid of anything else.

One thing I discovered is when I moved into my recent place I didn't have a bookshelf and so for time being I put my books in my walk-in closet just stacked on their sides; and that discovery was that it was a lot calmer in my space (a studio), not just because there was less clutter but also less things to take me away from the here and now, less chance to trigger sadness or emotions from the past that my books represented. So decluttering is not just about only the visual or what we use or don't use, but what items represent. I've always put a lot of value on my book collection as a big part of my identity, but learned it actually in some ways holds me back, literally, to the past. So either I may need to either let go if more books, which I have already, and/ or just keep those books in the closet. Also, is partly my ego wanting to show off my books and possibly impress people who might drop by. Also not really of value. There is tremendous sentimental value in my books, so it's quite the dilemma. Oh well, maybe I just need to accept a little more visual stimulation and memory jogging, after all our past is part of who we are.

after watching a few of your videos, i started to realises how much money i wasted over the yr, i even buy things that i don't fit into and hoping one day i will because i like it so much. i finally sorting out my clothes and donating, i was thinking to sell, but i need to teach myself a big lesson by donating and not waste anymore money. i need to learn to also let go. thank you.

Thanks for sharing. I am new to your Channel but I have learned much . My daughter is a minimalist (she owes 2 lipsticks while I own like 10! Oops). I have started decluttering my wardrobe having watched your video . Have a great weekend . Cheers!

I haven't seen your videos in months; after giving birth I haven't had a chance. But, I'm finally catching up on your videos today. Love this video; sadly, instead of decuttering, we found that we've been accumulating a lot more now.

Wow, you were right about the coffee mugs. It's an addiction and I just bought a new one at Starbucks less than a week ago. I need to discipline myself when it comes to such purchases.

Decluttering is a process we define our own life and take it over again. So, it has nothing to do with getting rid of things, it's only about knowing yourself and your life better.

I decluttering often, and I’m planning a cross country move and feel that when I get into that new place I’m going to be decluttering again and be way more intentional with my purchases

Another nice video, Sophie! I started mucking out regularly about 6 years ago. Each room for itself. I still do that about once a quarter. And before I buy something new, I try to explain exactly: do I need this? Do I just want to own this? How often will I use this? Can i borrow this? That helps me save space and money. And it saves time when tidying up and cleaning when everything has its place. I am generally someone who likes things properly. Not clinical and impersonal but everything has to have its place and comes back there after use. No searching for things because it is exactly where it should be :)
