We humans waste astonishing amounts of money on collecting unwanted items and then spend the rest of the lives throwing them out. What a waste! We should think many times before adding a single item to our shopping list. Always think how you can do without it. Materials don't add value to your life. Peace is what adds value to your life. The more you throw out the more you become happy. You are creating space both physically and mentally.

The sentimental thing is the hardest thing to do, few days ago I was in tough dilemma. I kept my late father’s t-shirt, but every time I see it, it only brings sad memories, it was the t-shirt he used on his last days. I finally decided to get rid of it. My memory of him should not be attached on a mere t-shirt. It should be more than that. Always love your video Sophie...
@MalamaLife3 жыл бұрын
I can only imagine the great deal of courage and acceptance to let go of that t-shirt. I can't speak from experience because I don't think I ever had to let go of something with such significance. I think you amazing for letting it go and for knowing that his memories will always be with you.

Good work, that would have been hard. But why should we keep anything that makes us feel BAD?
@sarahkriel99753 жыл бұрын
I actually had this same issue yesterday. My mom passed away last year on Halloween. My sister and I each took only a few items a piece and one of mine was a shirt of hers. Since she had dementia she was in a home and therefore her initials are written on the tag of a shirt, just like a child's would be if they were in daycare... I put the shirt on yesterday and felt so sad when I saw the initials... It made me remember her as she was in the end instead of how she was when she was well. I think it may be time to let that one go... I'm so thankful to see your comment and know I'm not alone with this feeling.

Me and my husband had to start minimalism. There was one time he was like I DONT HAVE SHIRTS TO WEAR! I counted all his shirts that night and counted 74 shirts and 8 pants. I told him afterwards, he was very disappointed with himself. We started to sort out his clothes, sold some and then donated most. Now he has 15 shirts and is very happy with it. He gets to wear all of them in 2 weeks (just in time for laundry) and we have so much closet space! IT is the way to go

Im going to try this. Im at a point of being so overwhelmed it is effecting my mental health and i have no idea where to start. If i sit down i feel so guilty. I cant enjoy my home or anything i love bc my home is over run with stuff. Yet i cant let a lot of the stuff go and think i will need it. A lot of things just dont have a home and i know the majority is still good and usuable and wouldnt make sense to throw out bc we would have to repurchase so its tiring and chaotic trying to sort and organize and bc we need a lot of the stuff it feels like very little is being donated/sold/trash. Were a family of 2 adults and 5 kids so we have accumulated a lot of stuff. Im going to give this a really good shot bc it seems realistic and not overwhelming. Thank you for the video🙏❤

Excellent video as usual, didn’t see any quotes this time but I always like when you include them. You’re very beautiful & your husband is a lucky man. As far as this dumpster fire of 2020, I’ve realized a few things. *Need to limit spending, especially online. I’ve bought more online this year than any other. Yea, I could blame it on COVID but I could also limit my spending on unnecessary things. I’m pretty minimalist as it is but spending like this and I won’t be for long. * Focusing on myself and not trying to seek external validation to make me feel like I’m worthy. I always try to go out of my way and be nice to people and sorry to say it’s not really worth it. Everyone seems fake & superficial nowadays and I’m guilty of trying to please people that really don’t matter. So going forward, I’m just going to focus on me. My inputs, habits, outputs and just my overall health. I’m tired of people.
@MalamaLife3 жыл бұрын
I find myself spending way more if I buy stuff online, so this is something I am definitely working on. When I go into the store, I usually stop when the basket feels heavy and it limits me from over spending. Love what you said about feeling self worth when we let go of external validation. I think this is why I am so attracted to slow living because I can just concentrate on myself and what I love doing. More quotes coming up in future videos :)

Relationships with the right people make life rich. Find people who have integrety, are authentic, are caring, and respectful, fun and full of life. Be the kind of friend you want them to be. No one is perfect but these kind of people are out there. You just have to be patient and keep looking.

Just found your channel and love it! Everyone, if you want to donate clothes (or really any other items) to a nonprofit, please, please, please call ahead. I used to work at a homeless center and oversaw donations like this. You wouldn't believe all the clutter we had because people dropped things off we didn't even need/couldn't even store in mass amounts. This made the clients who already struggled with anxiety, high levels of stress, and mental illness to be even more overwhelmed with all of the stuff. Not all orgs have a huge volunteer/staff base to sort all the stuff.

I like the idea of declutter but how am I going to do with the item I decluttered? Interested in how to deal with those items. Like where and how to sell them? how to trash, recycle, donate, etc. I believe it will be a big topic.
@MalamaLife3 жыл бұрын
I am planning to do a detailed guide on how to sell your things online. Of course this will be a little bit different depending on your county and state. I talk a little bit about simplifying the process in my last video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYGbiKmZgsR8hs0 Hope this helps!

You could sell on Facebook Marketplace, post to a local Buy Sell Swap FB group (just do a search for them), you could gift to someone, donate to a local charity, recycle, upcycle, etc.

@MakamaLife Thank you for your amazing videos. They've been helping me on my new journey. Now that you talking about decluttering, I wish someone would donate to me any phone they're not using. I've had a half-functioning phone for almost 2years now(sad). I know it sounds weird that I haven't made an effort to buy one, but I'm a firstborn who takes care of everyone in my household and forgets to even do the least for themselves. I would really love to have a phone that I would also be able to take pictures with. I sell clothes and most times I have clients asking me to send them the clothes pictures. I would appreciate it if anyone is willing to help. Thank y'all💕💕 Kenya

I gave all my stuff to charity and friends. I've kept 5 boxes of stuff at friend's houses. Packed my suitcase and back pack. Now I'm traveling SE Asia indefinitely. Never been happier. I'm free.
