Beautiful tutorial, thank you! Keeping these vintage mechanical beauties in good order is very satisfying to see. I love them! I have a Viking 6030 vintage machine I bought for $30 and fully restored from being gummed up inside. Such a joy to use.

I do collect this brand, and have two of these 4010. A simpler version of the 6010 sold at the same time, but based on the stitch selector of the Class 21 series machines. This machine eliminates two serious issues with the 2000/6000 series; cracked internal cam, and also failure in the post 1971 crank slide made partly in plastic on the 6030 and later. One clear minus is the lack of reverse feed seems, but that's it! So a great runner! For hard core collectors: there are cams D and E out there :-)

All the xx10 series machines has metal slides for the take up arm. The check at 9:45 should be no worries on these, they will not break. That problem came later with the self oilers, starting with the xx30 series.

that also applies to the xx20 series as well. The xx30, xx40, xx50, xx60 and xx70 series (1971-1982) all had a plastic connector in the crank slide.

Have one from TradeMe. Got it serviced. Wow. So solid, and sews beautifully. I actually think the earlier Husqvarnas like these Practicas and Combinas, the preceding emerald green ones (several models), and the slightly later earlier versions of the 2000 (all of these were much the same machine) are better than the later 2000s (a number of models) which have sealed bearings prone to seizing if left unused for a long time, and not as smooth running as these earlier machines when serviced and oiled properly.

I bought a 3230 recently (Combina II) and I agree it's a superior sewer. Not sure what the difference is, but it feels smoother and stronger than my 6460. I really like using it.

Great video and info. You mentioned some more detailing videos on this machine, where can i find them? I have the Husqvarna Combina II 3230 purchased aged ago and later hardly used by me. In many ways mine looks like yours though there are differences - do you have any knowledge of mine? If the machine is up to the task I intend to sew some canvas for outdoors use on a boat.

Hi hv you worked on a 32.60 I think it’s the 3000 series. Seems older than this model you’re working on. Cant find anything on it. The straight stitch isnt straight and the zig zag doesn’t work. Any info would be appreciated.

I just received a version of this machine that is straight stitch only. It’s the same color, and has the same case and same fabric inside the case. Can I assume it’s around the same year as this one? Thank you for the video, it is very helpful!
@InStitches4 жыл бұрын
I guess you could assume that. You may be able to ask on a specialised Husqvarna forum?

Thanks for the video .Would a Husqvarna 4510 be OK for a beginner? I'm trying to find a cheapish machine that I can make some basic camping gear (And clothes) like sleeping bag, bike bags (ripstop etc) and maybe a little webbing here and there but not much.

Thank you for the introduction, and time going over the machine. Have just purchased one of these from trademe, complete with manual, and accessories . Unfortunately mine does have a broken drive belt, the small notched belt coming from the motor. Would you know where I could purchase another? Thanks, Steve.

What type of oil would you recommend for this machine?
@InStitches2 жыл бұрын
I would only lubricate the bearings if need be because they are sintered and have lubricant in them from the factory. If they need oil then there is special oil for sintered bearings available. Thanks.
@foggs2 жыл бұрын
@@InStitches Ah interesting! It sounds like the motor is straining to get going (electrical hum, without turning). Once it's going I can ease off on the throttle to slow it down, so I thought lubricating it would help. Perhaps it's some other issue then?
@bridgethegap68732 жыл бұрын
it cost over $2000 us dollars? (on the receipt found under the tray?)

The last number there at 4:46 says "Kontrollerad av", so that is "controlled by" some person who had that number, probably.

What thread are you using? I love your demos of vintage machines. How much would I expect to pay for a machine like this in a thrift shop? (Ball park figure for guidance). I have a couple of Elna Supermatics and I have watched your videos on them. (All Blacks wiped the floor with us last night.. congratulations). 🇦🇺
@InStitches4 жыл бұрын
I'm using a two ply spun polyester thread, quite generic and nothing special but reasonable quality. I see sewing machines in thrift stores here for about $50-$100 USD but it depends on the model. Thanks.
