Both losing and winning can be emotionally destabilizing-especially for newer traders-because they intensify fear, greed, or overconfidence. Developing the discipline to remain level-headed, no matter your P&L, is the hallmark of a mature and successful trader.

Anton has a way of speaking which is very controlled and powerful. He doesn’t use any filler words in his sentences, nor does he litter the gaps between statements with “erm’s”. That is something I want to practise, to develop a more forthright mode of speaking, and cut away my conversational dead wood.

You can't detach from your emotions while trading until you accept that losing is normal. The most important things are managing your lot size right and closing your trades timely. Remember this; NO REGRETS and NO REVENGE in trading. Like any normal business deal, sometimes you gain, other times you lose.

I used to work in sales and my last boss used to lose his mind because I didn’t get upset when a deal went bad. He thought I didn’t care but couldn’t understand that I just didn’t see the point in wasting time on drama for the sake of drama. Needless to say, I left and am now in an industry more suited to my mentality - though not finance. After a few scrupulous research, I made about 11k in profit over a few individual stocks that had a lot of upside potential and reasonable or large market cap. After that, I felt happy but dissatisfied at the same time . i was comparing myself to my rich siblings and that is when my emotion got in the way and I lost 14k in a matter of 2 months!! Now I am more stoic and callous about my approach to trading.

"Don't look at your P&L" is an incredibly powerful piece of advice, which I follow myself. Just trade your plan, don't get happy (or brag) when you win and don't get despondent if you lose. The reason so many traders fail is because they can't master their emotions.

You can tell that Anton is rolling in the money hard. You have to be to wear a shirt like that and not give a fuck. He definitely locked out emotion when he went shopping for new shirts. I love what he's doing with the Institute Of Trading. The retail trading sector has been overcrowded with failed used car salesmen wearing fake Rolex's promoting scalping on a 1 min chart using moving averages as a means to get rich. I used to scalp the treasury futures on the CBOT years ago but never used charts. I used to watch the orders trading into the bids/offers and trade the order flow. If you do that nowadays all you're watching is hordes of algorithms with every aspect of game theory coded into them carrying out acts of attrition against other hordes of algorithms. Opportunities to scalp the spread on yield curves have been gone for years now. Other intraday opportunities have been killed off by the algos too. Back in the day, you could make good money buying the Bund on Eurex at 9 and selling the Bund on LIFFE at 10. I'm going to get back into trading and take Anton's online education as what he says about trading the 1-3 month time frame makes perfect sense to me as I only stopped trading when the intraday opportunites dried up. It's going to be great to learn how to trade fundamentals and I imagine that's going to be combined with trading spreads/hedges to keep risk in check on positions over the 1-3 month time frame. Can't wait to get stuck into the material.

The way I found to eliminate emotion is to be both long and short. Hedging allows you to get a win when something unpredictable happens and those hedging "profits"(sometimes it is just getting money you lost on them back) can be used to buy something low after a drawdown. Hedging does drag down your returns but you get a lot less volatility than if you don't hedge. I dunno maybe it's just my method but I find it is easier to find peaks when my p/l chart is smoothed out some.

Becoming emotionally detached in trading is not about not caring; it’s about handling both gains and losses with equilibrium. Accept that losing is normal, and that every winning strategy still includes drawdowns. Over time, striving for consistency in your mindset-just as you do in your strategy-enables you to pursue profitable trading without sabotaging yourself emotionally. And if you can work with a mentor who has navigated these waters, you’ll likely reach that emotional steadiness (and improved performance) much faster.

Filled with a mixed bag of people all screaming different belief's of market direction. You'll also find clicks within clicks.. The one i was involved in used to be really good, great bunch of guys. But the mood changed after a few months. Although i suspect other people around myself at their work. I come from a hardcore socialist country and they can't stand one person doing better than them.
