Look I know video editing is time consuming and projects take time but can you start doing longer videos where you finish the likes of this floor in one video - I just feel it’s getting tedious watching it take shape? I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels like this? Other than that, I like the way you take the time to explain what you’re doing and why- many people don’t and we’re left wondering at the end! 💪🏻

Would it be wise to put the black plastic down and then 6 inches up the wall all the way round the garage floor and just put boards straight over the top to stop damp thank you

Yes with the floating floors we have done that exact thing.

Hello if I was installing vinyl liner would I just stick it on top of the board? Or would I need to use insulated underlay on top of the board then vinyl liner? Is the kingspan load bearing? So you just put board on top of kingspan?

Looking at floating floor for garage to kitchen conversion does it recommend anywhere where you need to put a timber batten for point loads etc... cooker fridge freezer feet
@TheRestorationCouple9 ай бұрын
I wouldn't be to worried for appliances, it's often just required at doors or steps. Most important thing is making sure the y go down on a nice flat surface so no bounce or movement of finished floor.
@robshaw36559 ай бұрын
cheers.thank you for reply. washing machine and spin drier not going on it. Only concern beyond that would be how long will the insulation stay rigid. I know they have used massive dense polystyrene blocks under roadways, guess floating floors been around long enough now.@@TheRestorationCouple

Hi, my ground floor make up is block and beam, insulation, a vapour barrier then the chipboard on top. I’m renovating the ground floor. You use the vapour barrier at the bottom instead. Is there a reason to why my home is on top of the insulation instead of the bottom? Cheers

Brilliant content, binged watched so many of you videos recently, just one question. where you need to put a timber batten onto the DPM for a door threshold or wall, how to do you secure the batten? do you just screw through the timber & dpm and into the concrete floor?
@danielhart38202 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, why have you done a dpm above and below slab here? Would that not trap moisture? Or is this OK? Thanks

Useful to advise people to wear gloves when handling Celotex (etc.) as the foil can give some very nasty hand cuts if you catch it right... or wrong ;-) Good job. Always worth trying to squeeze any insulation in wherever you can.

Our lounge is freezing this time of year and I think that is because of lack of insulation. We have a tree with a preservation order next to the house which the lounge is the closest room to, so I think the floor is beam and block which is then skimmed as it flex’s when you jump on it. The rest of the house has solid floors (and no heat issues) from the hallway back. Could I use this type of insulation on my whole ground floor raising the floor level or should I get the floor ripped up? I have planning permission to extend our lounge which I will be likely getting a builder to do but just looking for ideas on how to improve the existing floor as it is terrible. Especially when the house is only 20 years old
@zlock974 жыл бұрын
Noo... if its block and beam there would b celotex already down! Get ur cavity walls pumped with ins... improves miles better
@JonahX-ui9tf4 жыл бұрын
Zak Lock already had the cavity walls done, I had laminate flooring down when I bought the place 12 years ago, had to change to carpet it was that bad and it is still pretty crap
@-_James_-4 жыл бұрын
Personally speaking, I'd rip it up and find out what's underneath there. It'll cost a bit more, but at least you'll know for sure then. I renovated a small bedroom in my place some years ago. When I bought the house that room (and the back of the hallway I merged it into) had horrible pine panels that made it look like the inside of a sauna - a classic Norwegian cabin look that I suspect everyone here was crazy about 20 years ago - some people still are, I guess, anyway I digress. Everyone was saying just put gips over the top and forget about it. I decided to pull the panelling off and do it properly. Underneath the pine panels was a layer of gips, underneath the gips were even older wooden panels, and underneath those the wooden frame of the wall that was so out of square it took a couple of days to just fix that. In the end though, I got the whole room squared up, reinsulated (the original wall was built in 1958 and still had the original insulation in it) and I even gained a couple of centimetres of space. (Which doesn't sound like much, but the whole room is only about 160cm wide anyway.) :)
@dannymurphy17794 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately insulation wasn't always put in during the late 90's. However it can't be a beam and block and solid floor, it has to be one or the other because you need the airflow. You need to get the plans, you can find who did them by going on the LA planning site. If it's a volume builder it will very likely be beam and block, in which case it will have a few vent grills front and back. The floor insulation only affects the room by around 15%, so you might have another issue. Maybe it's the window or the cavity is wet, or do you have an integral garage??? Insulation is good but I suspect you could have another issue too.
@JonahX-ui9tf4 жыл бұрын
There is no damp but I do have an integral garage. The outside walls have vent bricks, we have french doors which are crap as well, the only reason I think it’s beam and block is the movement when I jump on the lounge floor is does have bounce, every other room in the house is solid though, the dining room is next to the lounge and is just a stud to separate it, the floor in there is solid when I just on it and it has no problems with drafts or cold. I’m thinking it’s best to take it up and get it sorted when I do the extension.

Utility would then be two steps down and another step up from outside. Plus future kitchen work will raise insure another 100mm to get whole house on same ffl.
