Insulation for Walls and Ceiling 10x12 Building

The insulation for the walls of this building is R13. This is designed to work with 2x4 construction. The ceiling is filled with R19 designed to go with 2x6 construction. In the ceiling I install plastic baffles to ensure air flow above the insulation. This is crucial for proper ventilation. The space will have a mini split that pulls moisture out.

Hello Seth, we just had a shed built but we don’t have ventilation up on the ceiling, like you have on your shed; should we worry about putting in the baffles before we insulate the ceiling? Also, how serious is that, that we don’t have vents for air to ventilate the ceiling?

This building will have a mini split to heat and cool. That change in temperature can build condensation. Its important to vent the attic space to reduce the moisture. Also a space between the roof and insulation allows for much better heat dissipation. I have the baffles in all my insulated buildings but not sure if its required.

What type of staple gun and staple size did you use to attach the insulation to the studs?

So the reason to add the baffles and a vented roof is because you're planning on heating and cooling that shed

I do keep the shed heated and cooled but the vintage ceiling is also for moisture regulation. The passive air flow from soffit to ridge helps clear the moisture.

​@@sethcraftworkshopso I noticed he used the pink insulation I'm looking to do Rockwell since I'm going to heat and cool my shed and I'm already doing a ridge vent what I have to put up a plastic barrier on the inside because the Rockwell I'm using is a non-face

Did you not need to put some kind of moisture barrier?

The insulation has the paper moisture barrier. That is all that was needed in this area. The floor does have a plastic barrier.
