16:30 Actually that's a very valid point you are raising. As the "modern" high end graphics card essentially become unobtainable, people will turn to playing older titles, or titles that are graphically less demanding. And there's a shitton of older titles to play. Which may or may not end up meaning that those people who used to play newest titles and upgrade their machines to play newer titles simply stop upgrading. It's not like graphics cards die at the rate at which physical hard-drives used to die, unless certain title is involved.

It's kind of surreal how many reviewers absolutely took a shit on this card. I just got one for $374 new from Amazon. It was the only card available with performance similar to a 3060 that was below $400. The 3060 being about $500 itself. It was such a HUGE upgrade over my 1060 6GB. Like double the performance with barely an increase in power consumption. I was so absolutely thrilled to finally be able to get a decent upgrade for under $400 and now that I'm looking up reviews of the card everyone is just talking shit about it. It's just so strange.
@flushfire2 жыл бұрын
In my region (SEA) it's currently very good value, around 20-25% cheaper than the 3060, and is the same price as a 3050 or 1660 SUPERs/TIs. When watching these reviews it's simply better to look at the performance and local pricing then decide for ourselves instead of listening to the conclusion as they often do not experience the buying difficulties we regular consumers do.
@ferderonhurgeron92632 жыл бұрын
Many reviewers are extensively sponsored, thus biased. Best to consider just the specs and looks and leave their opinion on the product at the door, as that is irrelevant to your specific needs. I'm gonna buy it because in clean testruns on YT it obliterates everything within its tier, especially nvidia's 1660's, 2060's and 3050's.
@Credo19702 жыл бұрын
They don't actually play the games either. They run automated simulations and look at numbers that have nothing to do with the overall gaming experience relative to the price paid. People who actually play the stuff are like, "It'll work if it's the card you can afford and get your hands on now. If you've never played with everything on ultra settings all maxed out, you won't miss it, and quite frankly, even if you have, there's a lot of stuff in the game you can disable that you still won't miss much (if at all). Sometimes the extra shading and noise is actually pretty distracting. Disable some proprietary shadows or other spectral/shading effects, use a $200 cheaper card that is actually in stock, comes with decent warranty, end up with a cooler/quieter and more efficient running rig, and still get a very impressive gaming experience? Fine by me! End up underclocking/volting stuff the majority of the time anyway. Don't game 24/7...need the computer for all sorts of things that don't need the graphics card to keep running full steam, and the regular XR6600 is a good card in that respect.
@RageArtEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
before you read, just know i just got this card. i think all you guys missed the point. the problem here is that the previous generations provided far more price to performance than these cards ever did. now you might compare fps and go "thats not true" but thats a flawed way of comparing because as time goes on, and technology improves, games also become harder to run. so the main point is- for the games of that time, the cards these companies offered were far more accessible to consumers and each generation provided meaningful upgrades- not just in performance but also value. for 300 dollars you could have gotten the equivalent of an RTX 3070 back then. thats the problem. yes there are external factors at play here but its also something that is almost certainly being taken advantage of by AMD and Nvidia.
@flushfire2 жыл бұрын
@@RageArtEnthusiast we didn't miss it, we just aren't trying to attract views by "giving it to the man" like most youtubers do. That point would've been entirely valid if we weren't in the situation we are now, but the reality is different. Would it have been nice if the generational improvement is better? Sure, but it is what it is and it needs to be judged for what it is, not what it should've been. There is no changing the fact that this card's price:performance is currently one of the best and the initial reviews subjectively painted a more negative picture.

@ram895723 жыл бұрын
Acceptable is completely subjective though. If for example, I were to suddenly be in need of a graphics card and had to buy used, I would have to look for either a 1080 Ti or a 2080 and I can't imagine those would be that much cheaper $ to performance right now than just biting the bullet and either lucking out and finding a 3080 at a retail store with an inflated price tag or buying from a scalper. Any way you slice it, I would have to shell out a metric crapload of money to get a card that would be able to give me performance at an acceptable level. Sure if all you play are the current popular multiplayer garbage games then you could do with less since those tend to be optimized a bit better, but if those aren't the kinds of games you play then you need a beast of a machine to maintain a solid 4k60

Ah, you're talking about the value-brand hole. Once you become known as a value brand you need to sell a better product at a lower price to get any recognition at all. When you are stuck deep in the value-brand hole, it's hard to gather enough money for R&D so your entire process becomes efficiency and repeatability. If you can make a breakthrough, get some brand recognition in the market, at some point you reorganize and start to raise prices to pay your bills and do more research. SO yeah, they're making money while they can...and to some degree I think Radeon prices are being guided by Ryzen valuation and people saying "all AMD system". In the meantime we've gone from AMD launching a single design as their entire hope in the CPU market, to pooping out new SKUs and configurations for various markets. If AMD holds on and grows we may see some long-term brand parity and price competition but other parts of the market need to improve first before prices settle down. Ethically and in terms of sympathy, rising prices are not kind to lower budgets. From a business perspective, this is raising money to invest in long-term survival.

How much does AMD and NVIDIA charge for the GPUs? You take the GPU, mount it on the PCB, add the VRAM, connectors, then the cooling. So, out of the cost to make a video card, is the actual GPU chip more or less than the combined cost of all of those other components? The real problem is that if AMD and NVIDIA are estimating the actual costs to manufacture incorrectly, or underestimate how expensive it will be to distribute the cards, then everything will be wrong when it comes to the price.

@@tifforo1 It isn't as cut and dry as you make it out to be. GPU makers sell the chips to video card makers. Those video card makers traditionally ONLY sell to distributors(you can't buy a Sapphire video card direct from Sapphire for example, it MUST go through a distributor. From that point of view, there aren't multiple prices the cards get sold by them for, other than if an OEM buys in large quantities, and even then, it might require over 1000 of the video card before the video card maker will consider directly selling the card to anyone other than the distributor(s) they sell to.

Bought an rx 6600 for $260 a couple days ago. I’m a happy customer! Everything I’ve tried has gotten 60fps or more, and overwatch 2 runs at 165fps smoothly on high. Actually the one exception to that is cyberpunk 2077. BUT, after looking at my gpu & cpu usage, my CPU is actually the bottleneck in cyberpunk! Guess my old i7-4790k ain’t enough to cut it anymore. Some areas in Cyberpunk I see 100% cpu usage with about 70% gpu usage. And in those areas framerates dip to about 40fps. I think this card got a really bad wrap just bc everyone was pissed off at the pandemic market. 🤷🏻♂️

I will say this does give us an interesting scale for how RDNA2 and RDNA1 compare at least. If the 6600 at 28CUs more or less equals out against the 5600XT, then that means 1 RDNA2 CU is roughly 35% better than an RDNA1 CU. I said it before on another thread, but these are ideal market conditions for Intel to enter next year. Over 45% of steams player-base are on D-GPUs with a MSRP below $300, significantly more if you include mobile & integrated graphics; hell, 10% alone are on 1060s. That is a market that's being completely unserved. A decent value proposition at $80, $150, $220 & $300 and intel does to GPUs what ryzen did to CPUs. They don't even need a halo product to compete... The market is literally sat there waiting to be sold something; AMD & Nvidia might as well have gift wrapped it for them.
