If I was given the same deck of cards, I may have played the same moves as you, but for viewers knowing you had an issue with the camper wheel hub, axles, wheel studs and you kept motoring, then the wheel came of.Iif the wheel that came off had caused and accident that caused a fatality or maybe a whole family to die, having to sleep in a cabin would be the least of your worries. The legal bill just trying to stay out of prison would be in the 100s of thousands of dollars.

My name is Garry and im a new subscriber.I owned a mdc camper years ago. I took a year off work, unpaid leave, and travelled around australia with the mrs for 13 months. I had to repair my mdc camper trailer several times. They are cheap trailers. Cheap supension, latches, canvas, electrical wiring you name it. I would not buy one ever again. There ok for a few nights here and there, but not long term travelling. Best of luck for your future travels.

Welcome to the chanel. I would agree with you there and I guess we have been lucky many times. It's still doing alright but I had to change a lot over to AUS made stuff.

We did find out why we lost the tire on the end and this may surprise you!!! Caravan and Camper tires are not balanced from the factory and that can create the tires to wobble. Combine this with corrugated roads and long distances you end up making a video like this 🤣

I think there was also a problem. With them wheels/ nuts when tightening also. We have a 2020 model and have done a good 30,000kms no issues haha and been mostly hard going 😂😂😂. Gravel corrigations etc etc.

Great video, you are very resilient, all those issues would have done my head in. Time to buy an Ultimate Camper!

Gotta say that was very irresponsible towing that trailer knowing it had a serious issue with the wheel. It could've ended in a rollover and another innocent person getting hurt.

Very very interesting to hear about the 51.2mm bushes issue... I have a 2019 high side myself and will definitely need to look into this as the suspension is the next big maintenance item i need to get in and overhaul! Thanks for all the extra detail, looking forward to the next adventure!

lol reminds me of my 74 kombi blowing a head gasket half way across the nullabor in 1990; waited three days on the side of the road for a car carrier to take into Perth. All part of the joys of travel! Love the videos 😂

Should have stayed at first town to source parts. Basically problem is wrong wheel nuts to rims, tapper not correct F off those cheap alloy wheels and fit good steel rim , like CSA
@wildworldadventures6 ай бұрын
Yes, I did look into this but unfortunately you don't always have a choice when you travel remote.
@scroungasworkshop46636 ай бұрын
Agreed, fancy alloy wheels have no place on an off road camper. I took mine off as soon as we got the camper and put them back on when we were selling it. Steel wheels are easier to maintain (bash them back into shape with a hammer if you have to) and easier to keep an eye on the wheel nuts.

Mates old Bronco busted all the studs on the way to Alice Springs, it turned out the studs were quite long and because it had dome nuts the thread was bottoming out inside the dome long before the wheel was tight.

Thats a great tip to keep in mind for the future, cheers mate 👍

If those campers are Chinese made you may find the bushings are imperial to suit the US market as 2” is 50.8 mm which is very close to your 51 mm. Just a thought.
@wildworldadventures6 ай бұрын
MDC specified them as 50mm but you may be right with a US version got in there without anybody knowing. The repairer had a few MDC's with the same issue before.

l would in your case try and get a complete wheel hub ,including wheel nuts ,bearing grease [tub] and bearings as a spare for your campervan ,this l believe when traveling distances is as essential as spare wheels .
@wildworldadventures6 ай бұрын
Yep, that's what we thought, unfortunately they did not fit and the mechanic almost gave up 😂 we got there in the end.

Thanks so much for the info we just bought a mdc off road van so hope we don't have the same problem's you have had didn't know about the wheel balancing sounds very unsafe don't understand why they would not balance the wheels.great video hope all goes well for you guys now.😅😊

Unfortunately some of the Chinese camper trailers are known for wheel stud issues. MDC is one along with ezytrail. Great to see you've got out of it and moved on. I sold my camper as the lack of back up, weight and set up issues gave me the Tom tits

Of course and they were somewhat helpful. Unfortunately some spare parts have to come from China 😢 and according to the wheel alignment company. The problem with the bushes was common on the MDC's. Not sure if the new models still have this issue.
