Just so you don't think ALL American neighbors are bad, I have one who brings any heavy Amazon packages delivered straight to my door. So instead of getting left on the floor of the mailroom, he brings them upstairs across the hall and deposits on my welcome mat. Super nice of him! I have a neck/shoulder injury that makes it VERY difficult to lift things and Amazon has been ignoring my delivery instructions for two years now. But! Very grateful my neighbor is willing to help out! Edit: Also, regarding the game's lore, I've always felt like the developer does their best to make the "story" as nonsensical as possible deliberately to avoid GT-type lore videos on it. Nothing against GT, they're great and I'm subbed, and of course I could be wrong! But if I'm right, it's a little refreshing to just have a game "be", especially when the concept and execution carry it so well.

I hate when people that have never lived in the USA give facts about what it's like to live in the USA. I've lived in places where your neighbors accept the package and in places where you can't trust your neighbors. Right now I live in place where they just leave the package at your door or in the mailroom and no one steals it because why would they? America is a big place (probably 3 or 10 or more times the size of your country and more culturally diverse; Netherlands is 45 km^2 but just the state California is 10 times bigger) with lots of different living situations. I guess they don't have that in Europe or Australia. They do, but anything bad is always "American." Americans really live rent free in Euro heads especially people from the UK. Anytime something happens in the UK or Australia it's because they were "acting American"

Same in France but I really hate when it happens, most of the times it happened someone was home (so someone could have delivered the package but didn't want to), plus it's bothersome when you don't live in a city with a post office open all day. In bigger cities it's fine tho.

On the topic of mail delivery - I live in Sweden, and while I've never heard of neighbours holding onto a package (Because we're antisocial, not because they'd steal lol), we have "handout spots" which are just places, usually in other stores, that hold onto packages that you weren't home for and/or didn't fit in the mailbox. Shipping is also usually cheaper to those places compared to home delivery, so I usually pick those anyways... I've had one company that hung the package on my front door, but that was a specific company that deliver express packages and they deliver very early, around 6am, and they were very clear that they were going to do that (You could choose to have them deliver to a handout spot instead), plus sent a message when it was delivered. I felt it was safe since I live in an apartment and to even see the package you'd need the building code, plus I'd be home to get it the moment I woke up. I can't imagine having people leaving a package on your lawn in front of an open street for hours... Wild

Yay! You finally found the aliens! I was beginning to doubt they exist lol. I love when you play this game not only because the game itself is fun, but I just really enjoy the random conversations that get started during it. 1:20:38 This is basically what I've done since I was 15. My hair grows super long, super fast so every two years I get about 2 feet (around 60cm) cut off all at once to donate to a charity to make free wigs for kids with cancer. My hair is super healthy, straight, undyed, and there's a LOT of it so it's perfect for making wigs for a lot of different kids (They can freely bleach, dye, or perm it to match whatever kind of hair the kid originally had). I know a ton of braided hairstyles I can throw up in minutes for when it gets longer again lol. It keeps it out of my way with no fuss.

All the talk about neighbours, reminded me of mine before I moved: our neighbours on the left were lovely, but the ones on the right would fight a lot, we had to call the police on them a few times (and they called on us as revenge). (Also, I'm from the UK, and we use the package system here)

The neighbour thingy. My neighbour threatened with violence, talking about smashing my father's nose in. So I confronted him and made them so scared, the wife called the police to "deter the fight." After that, they moved very quickly. Insym is right, don't mess with your neighbours for no reason. You just make your life way worse for no possible gain.
@Felnier
@Felnier 2 жыл бұрын
The package thing is not being portrayed by chat very well. The main reason that packages aren't delivered to neighbors is the delivery service is too lazy to implement that system, and/or doesn't want to deal with the liability. Most areas (outside of large cities) are high trust, especially if there isn't a huge wealth disparity and the zoning for residential areas mixes various income levels. I live in medium sized city, and I trust my neighbors; they've brought me scones when I've moved in, texted me when my garage door is open at night, and have knocked on my door to tell me my mom's car door was open. The main reason Americans are so afraid of their neighbors, in general, is the mass consumption of news/media that is encouraged to report on dark news for increased ad traffic. Same reason people like drama or upcoming bad weather like tornados, its interesting. People consume this fear p*rn, and it slowly becomes their reality even though they have had no first hand experience. It also tends to radicalize the average consumer, because they build up these extreme caricatures of people in their head that dehumanizes others if they disagree with them. When I lived in Japan, people there thought America was super dangerous based on our news; for example, I had someone ask me how often ive witnessed shootings in person. He didn't believe me at first when I quoted FBI statistics that we only have about 300 rifle and 12k pistol homicides a year in the US.

Regarding the packages and delivery to neighbors. My family had our garbage bin stolen. We've also had a neighbor try and force their way through the front door. The door was cracked and warped after the incident. I have heard a distant gun shot, turns out a person wasn't in good standing with someone. I would only trust my neighbors to hold a piece of lead moving at least mk1, nothing more.

I work for the USPS and we don't normally toss it on the lawn. We leave it either at the door or the garage unless it's something that you've designated you want signed for. At that point we will only deliver it to a person and if not we will leave a slip. But yeah neighbors aren't particularly close in the US. They CAN be but it depends on the region. People forget the US is massive and has large cultural diversity sometimes. I live in the northeast and southerners weird me out because we're more reserved in the north and only really open up to friends.

Something I need to get off my chest on the note of "Why would you start a fight with your neighbor" ! *[!! TW: Comment talks about death, strong language and Karens !!]* My neighbors have retired like 20 years ago and have been assholes ever since. They throw parties for too long (like 3 am) and way too loud (not on the weekends but on work days where we have to get up at 6 am again) and they place their grill just perfectly so that all the smoke enters my backyard. I never said anything to keep the nice neighbor spirit going but it has just been getting worse. About 7 months ago, my grandpa had a setback in his health. He had to go to the hospital for 2 weeks and after that, the doctors gave him a year. My house was perfectly accessable while the flat my grandparents had was quite small so I agreed to take both of them in since I had more than enough space. Now, about 2 months ago, they threw a party on a weekday once again. At around 11 pm, I have had enough, went to the fence and asked them very nicely to be a bit considerate and maybe tone it down a bit or go inside their house to dampen the noise. They laughed at me and some of them even mimic me but twisting my words to make fun of me. The woman of the retired couple came up tonme and started screeching at me for ordering her around and that I was always like this, always throwing a tantrum if I wouldn't get what I wanted. I told her that I have tolerated their behavior and never said anything before, she kept on screaming about how I am a bad neighbor and that my granddad has been ill for years. After my granddads death, the next morning, I decided to never talk to them again and to call the police if they were even one minute after the loud-noise-curfew in my neighborhood. They were so audacious to show up at the funeral and to give us a card filled with money. We just threw the card plus the money back in their post box. They even called us and asked if they had done something wrong. I hung up on them after saying that I won't forgive them for what they did and that they better not try to contact me or myfamily again or I would get a restraining order (They kept calling and ringing at our door trying to talk to us even after we told them to never make contact again and that we do not want them to approach us). I could as if I was the jerk but I seriously believe that I am in the right. I just belong to the unlucky few with Karens as neighbors-

I'm glad chat was telling you about the New Coke rebrand fail xD There's a really good video about it on youtube, I'm surprised you haven't seen it since you like informative vids! So for those who knew about that from the 80s, apparently, it was a really fun detail that just felt real. More immersion as opposed to less. But for the rest of us, yeah, that mention in ST felt like an ad, lol!!

I think there's lore for this game, I just think it's not cohesive or 100% thought out. Like I don't think the developers expected for it to become this big of a hit and to have people follow it so closely to the point of wanting to piece together the backstory. So even though there's details that run through all the games with Timothy, I don't think they had a full story developed for it.

Trust me when i say that the US can be a terrifyingly dangerous place to live. Just because you live close to someone, does not mean they can be trusted. In some places in the USA, you are FAR more likely to end up with bulletholes than your packages when going to your neighbor 💀

26:28 Keep in mind that we are talking about the same 'culture' that when businesses started denying customers due to the risk of rampant COVID-19 infections/deaths, landlords were evicting tenants who COULD NOT WORK/GET PAID, due to how many people were dying across the nation. People that, once evicted, were highly likely to get infected, be unable to afford medical care, then die as well. Welcome to tge USA Where you are free to die, work 3 jobs to barely afford rent, and really very little else... 🤷‍♂️

I know that me and my next door neighbor are close enough to pick up each other's packages and put them on the porch or under the table so they don't get taken :) we have a porch with a table and chairs so often they'll put our packages on the chairs and we pick theirs up and keep them on our porch and they can grab them when they get home

With the postal stuff in the UK if nobody is home they'll either ask neighbour and leave a official notice saying "this neighbour has your package", or they return it to the office telling you to come collect it. If the neighbours keep it or lie, you have lawful action because it's theft. UPS, Amazon, etc its a gamble, they can straight up abandon the package at your house, they'll drop it off at a neighbours, they might leave a notice they might not, or they straight up F you over, and send the package back to the supplier and you gotta buy it again. All legit happened to me and people I know. The neighbour relation: you must be lucky, where I am I got one who legally blocked the road off because of how their property is legally owned, the only thing that can enter the area is cars, you can't get delivery vans or anything bigger than a four door car into the area, they've caused so many problems for people here. Another is so g'damn nosy, its annoying. One legit shouted and hit their kids in the streets, blocked off public path because legally he owns the path because he was fed up of people walking past his house and van. So yeah, you gotta be lucky to get good neighbours.

A la 20:26. Even if people ARE home, the delivery companies will often just drop a package on the front porch and call it good. A la 24:00 My neighbors would gladly receive deliveries for me, and have done so; and vice-versa. But that choice is not given to the neighbors. The delivery company makes the decision about where and how to deliver packages. Considering that they will not even take the time to interact with the addressee; when they are home, how could you expect them to stop and visit with the neighbors when the addressee is not home? It's driven by the company they work for. Hurry, hurry, hurry!!

You can choose not to have packages dropped on your porch or left with a neighbor. Most people just don't bother because package thefts are rare. And the places that are more susceptible to crime usually do exactly what you described, or they leave it to pick up at a nearby "designated location" that is locked up or tended to by someone. I suppose if you live in a bad enough neighborhood, they won't deliver to your house at all. It's kind of hard to discuss things like this with Europeans who take an "all encompassing" view of America. Because every state is like their own country anyway, so if Texas does one thing, California can do it entirely differently. (And these two states are VERY different policy wise, legally, individually, and business) That's why it always kind of annoys me when people from other countries talk about America like its one easily defined and categorized place when it can be drastically different state to state.

Yeah, people often do the same thing for Canada. Like, our country is huge, you cannot expect the culture to be the same all over.

I dont know where those fans are living but that stuff dose not happen to us in are neighborhood we even share a backyard with one of are neighbors well we technically do we don't go to his yard and dose not really come to are Yard unless he needs help with something when he first moved we built him a place for him to make cabinets. The only reason are yards don't have a fence in between them is a family member lived there but they had to move

24:16 for me, yes, my nieghbours have PLENTY of guns + big dogs but they are super nice and have been friends with us for years. In fact she normally grabs our packages when we are out and away from the house so they don't get stolen and sometimes we'll buy things online for the wife because shes old and doesn't understand tech well and doesn't have a debit card linked to her phone/has a debit card so she'll give 20 bucks for something she wants and we'll buy what she wants lol its a good relationship but its SUPER rare in America to have this lol Another reason why I hate living in American 😔
