I listen to this video when I don't feel like reading the chapter in The Personal Myth Guide, it is very helpful, thanks! I remember when this video came out, I listened to it while solving a jigsaw puzzle in my room on the floor. Now, a year later, I understand the Anima much better.

Thank you, James. Great summary! When I first started watching the JTLB videos, I definitely did not understand the anima and animus. I had the basic misunderstanding of “inner woman/man”. And that was definitely a stumbling block. I also had never considered how male and female children would have different experiences in regards to the initial development of their relating functions. Watching this video, I’m thankful to have such a better grasp on this than when I first discovered you all. Thank you!! 🙏

24:23 "If his mother has been too containing, or even sexually possessive, the boys Anima can become frozen at the oedipal stage, despite instinctive pressure to separate. His relating function through the principle of "what is within, so too is without" will internalize this paralyzing possession by the mother and effect both his inner relationship to himself and his outer relationships to women, to society, culture and even to the natural world." This is hitting the target for me. I will definitely be buying the book now. Thank you all for your work.

Thank you, looking forward to the release of the book. My current understanding is that if one were very introspective, a bit of a day dreamer, prefers own company etc. then he could be 'suffocated' by the anima, and the work is to build a conscious and lucid Ego structure that stands between the World and the Anima? I am close to fifty and have a teenage daughter, I would love to hear Pauline's perspective on Fatherhood. Thank you again, all the best.

Can a pathological integration of the anima affect sexual development? I’m very new to this way of looking at jungian ideas. So if the anima is primordially a “relating function” of the man with the social world and himself; external and internal (starting with the mother), can this function be developmentally distorted so we can see weird relations within the sexuality of the individual? (Including taboo sexualities) If so, what kind of pathologies can arise from it? I’m trying to understand sexual pathologies from its biological root (“instinctive pressure”) through the development/integracion of the anima complex in a man’s life. I’m not sure if all the ideas are coherent, but i’m new to the channel and I hope my question makes sense

Thanks for detailed and deep information. İ am going to psychoanalysis . İt is almost 4 years and more than 1100 sessions. There is no emotional change, however i unterstand most of my symptoms and their causes. But it is too difficult to explore more deeper details. And i am losing my hope sometimes, i am 26 years old. İ don't lose my years with these process, but i know it is the most important thing in my life i think. What do you think about psychoanalysis. İs there any way for integration and whole understanding of my emotions and psyche and change the way of functioning of my psyche? Thanks for your time.
@JungToLiveBy
@JungToLiveBy 7 ай бұрын
Hi @ceyhunabdullayev1442 , thanks for sharing your experience in psychoanalysis. You haven't specified which school of analysis you have been undergoing (i.e., Freudian or Neo-Freudian, Post-Freudian etc) or Jungian (Classical, Developmental, Archetypal etc) or indeed any other. That said, they all tend strongly towards very lengthy and involved 'therapy' with some making an attachment to the analyst (the 'transference') the core of the analysis. If, you are content with the length of time, and frequency of sessions, with the in-going result being 'no emotional change' , then that has to be your choice and your decision. 4 years in a 'heritage' analytic tradition, is not unusual, indeed I know of people who have spent up to 13 or even 20 years in such a process. If the people concerned are content with that, then I would have nothing to say about their specific circumstances. However, as a general view, based on my own 44 years of professional practice, I would regard it as malpractice, to create and maintain a transference attachment to a therapist, with no emotional progress, for the patient. There are countless examples of patients achieving quick results, by addressing the emotional (affective) and instinctive levels of their being, and this is very possible, and routinely achievable, from within a psychodynamic framework. I don't know the specifics of your history, or the therapy that you have been undergoing, and I would not suggest that you make them known publicly, but in psychoanalytic processes that continue for extended periods of time (as you have reported about your own) the attachment to the analyst becomes the definition of the problem the patient suffers from. Indeed, this is actively generated by psychoanalysts as an artefact of their method, on dogmatic grounds. From the patient's side of things, they can become so anxiously attached to the pseudo-relationship with the analyst, (pseudo as in not being real-world adapted) that they have great difficulty in separating from it. 'If' you are in such a situation, then the main task for you would be to re-orientate yourself to the natural progression of your life-span development, away from the artificial container of a manufactured dependency. 'If' however, you are content, as such, with your experience, then that is an adaptation by consent, to such a relationship. I wish you the very best for yourself, both now, and going forward, into the future. Kindest Regards, Steve 🙏

What exactly does it mean that a man will treat an outer woman almost exactly the same as he treats his unconscious mind? I've heard Robert A. Johnson say something similar.
@JungToLiveBy
@JungToLiveBy Жыл бұрын
Hi @10000diamondeyes, mothers (or in loco mater), act as a male child's anchopr during the process of his personal reflexive self (Ego) differentiating out into adaptive relationship, both to the external world, and to the background of the psyche. If he has trust in his relationship to his imprinting female caregiver, he will likely be trustful of his 'unconscious'. If not, he will likely be fearful and suspicious of it, and ot be given to superstitious, fanatsy based relationships both externally, and internally to his psyche. Men who hurt or harm, women, without any cause, usually fear their unconscious. You'll find the confirmation for this in Jung's works. Kindest Regards, Steve

Chances are you’d be wasted - by definition ‘too’ suggests too much. Darwinian selective pressures would incline ‘too-Aloha’ who couldn’t therefore ‘relate’ to be used up in war, violence or simply out competed reproductively and psychosocially by better adapted males. Too much is always too much, so finding an adaptive bandwidth is always a better thing. Kindest Regards, Steve 🙏
