The lack of integrity is a black hole of modern living, every man for himself and take as much as I can , A sad reflection of humanity.
@lachlanbell83905 жыл бұрын
A sad consequence of the death of God, as Nietzsche put it. Christian morality and values used to be the bedrock of Western civilisation, but that's no longer the case. Even though Christianity hasn't been ubiquitous for a long time, the values were still embedded in the social framework. It took a few generations for us to reach this point, with these moral standards gradually diluting more and more as time progressed without these values being taught to children. Every human culture ever has had a religion to unify the people, to make them part of the same "in group" so as to avoid the conflict that happens between groups. Sadly, the rise of atheistic individualism has created a culture where people value themselves above all others, and doing wrong by others isn't seen as wrong like it once was. It may be possible to have a culture that rejects religion and remains stable long-term, but we've never seen one and there's no evidence ours will be the first.
@wardeni48065 жыл бұрын
That's western consumerist culture for you. Everyone is taught since childhood to not rely on others and to consume and consume and consume. Everything is a competition and everyone is your enemy. "You need this product to show off to your neighbours" etc. Personally I was lucky enough to grow up in rural Finland, where the old culture still persists; people bake more than they need and give the rest to their neighbours, people who hunt give away the excess meat to coworkers, neighbours or family members and people help each other out with tough jobs. That's what society was like before money came along; people traded favours and worked together.
@Goldenhawk5835 жыл бұрын
@@lachlanbell8390 you dont need a religion to unify people.. you only need something common, like freedom for instance. Religion has been an excuse for war so often its not even funny, why? Because people love being right, and love to "defend the only ,true faith". Spirituality is personal.. should not be from a book written by someone else, where is the integrity in that? Christians do not have superior morals, nor are they the only ones with morals. I dont need a bible to tell me not to steal or kill or lie.. it seems pretty clear to me that those are bad things if done for greed and personal gain. Killing in defense is fine..
@thegael57585 жыл бұрын
As a follow up from my original comment ,I believe the human psyche in some people does not hold integrity as a moral compass in conduct or speech.Past life lessons have been diluted by the modern lifestyle,teach your children well that's the future.A common mindset of consideration, respect and doing the right thing would be a start but we know that ain't going to happen.

Yeah, because most people aren't even in touch with their true self, they don't have consciousness beyond their lower instinctual survival based level of consciousness, thus the most important thing for most is just to keep their lower ego satisfied with bodily pleasures. Honor and integrity is the complete commitment to living based on your deepest inner values no matter what happens. People who automatically think anyone they talk to has no integrity--who think you will lie, cheat, steal, hurt others, run from danger, throw the innocent in front of you to stay alive, fight to stay weak, take drugs to stay asleep--usually have no integrity themselves. Related story to this topic: often I take off in my motor-home for a weekend, I went to a roadside campground about 2 hours out of town. The place is right on the ocean and has very little services so it doesn't have a full time attendant. One weekend after arriving and setting up camp I was walking my money to the pay box that's set up at the entrance. It costs $17.00 per night and its what they call the HONOR system. while talking to the couple in the RV across from me , they assured me they had not paid for 3 days and that no one comes around to check. I told them its the HONOR system and that I don't leave my HONOR in the city it goes with me everywhere. The women looked at her husband and I could see the look in his face, I walked away. Everyone was going about tossing their limbs etc into the pit, sweeping up after themselves, handing over the broom to the next person. I've reoriented my life towards virtue and integrity and now, ironically, I'm more or less a criminal but I sleep better at night.

WOW!!! Thank You, Very Much!!!, for this GREAT Commentary!!! FYI: I think that a vast majority of Americans, especially the younger generations, or, those under 50 years old, seem to have NO CONCEPT of "Personal Integrity", as such!.... These are th kinds of people who are "FOLLOWERS": they follow celebrity gossip, "fashions (clothing, haircuts, tattoos)", brand named consumer products, trendy financial advice, "status quo" values (of home ownership, lawn-care, and landscaping, vehicles, diet and exercise, schools for their children, popular "vacation destinations", techno-gadgetry (iphones, flat-screen TV's, etc., ), and they all seem to drift whatever way the "popular trends" blow them!!! They are like "TRASH" blowing around, in the wind. They will only stop "drifting" when something in life gets in their way, or they encounter something more limiting, like some fence, or, barrier, where they all seem to gather and swirl around, aimlessly. I have ALWAYS strived to AVOID these kinds of people, and to AVOID the kinds of things that They "Value"!!! They worship "False idols", so to speak!!! They are the blind, following the blind!!! It takes some SERIOUS Self-Reflection, and "Discernment", and "discrimination", to be able to steer clear of such a life of useless folly!!!

I try to keep my integrity. Sometimes it’s difficult not to act on emotions that cause you to behave like you don’t have integrity. Most of the time I do not let the negative emotions govern my behaviour. Maintaining your integrity is certainly the hallmark of a mature and decent man or woman. Modern society it seems rewards low integrity in some cases and it is a huge pity, cause it is hugely destructive. Very nice scenery where this video was filmed. There is wilderness near where I live, I rarely go there though. Liked the camp fire, always good to watch these videos. Bjorn has the right idea. Good on you Bjorn👍🏻🙏

Bjorn, thank you for what you do. I am a retired physician living if Florida. I grew up on a Kentucky dairy farm with 60 acres of woods. When my chores were done, I loved to sit silently in the woods and await nature come alive (a fox, a deer, a rabbit or squirrel), it was magical. Your videos take me back there and I am grateful. Now that I am retired, I would love to start backpacking again (which I used to do). I love that your videos show the woods in Norway, and would love to come to your country some day. Again thank you!
Who decides what your duties are? If it is not you, but a stranger.. say a president.. then integrity is out the window, and the acronym is only an ego boost to make you forget to think for yourself.

Integrity is a trait my family has always had, regardless of having Swedish lineage. Integrity is such an integral trait, being in the Multi-Media Industry and especially being a Writer. I've seen so many colleagues have their lifes work plagerized. People would practically sell their soul to get ahead and step over the bodies of people which have helped them, kicking you down as you climb the ladder of success, one rung at a time, one year at a time, without any remorse. It's disgusting. I have a strong sense of self and will never deter from the path that I choose to take. Being a person of substance and integrity is all I will be in every aspect of my life. It's such a shame when you see a lack of moral fortitude is so many people, more so than ever these days. Thank you for yet another enlightening Video.

Bjorn, I have just recently discovered your channel and it is a pleasure indeed to be in the company of a real man. As you point out, it is becoming a rare find. I have been thinking that we need to create a group or organization that teaches these values and these skills to boys and young men. Growing up we had the Scouts but that organization has been corrupted and rendered useless by the same groups who are attacking "toxic masculinity' etc. I truly believe there are many young men who are fatherless (either literally or figuratively) and are hungry for role models to teach them how to be and act as real men. We, who are, in essence, the "Tribal Elders" need to reach out and make ourselves available and sew the seeds for a new generation of men. Your thoughts?
@VagabondJohnBowler5 жыл бұрын
@wearealltubes Well spoken and a more accurate definition. Still, it begs the question of how we address the problem of todays' lack of truly masculine role models and male tribal/bonding rituals. in our cultures. we need a method of reintegrating masculinity into the lives of our boys and young men in a whole host of areas. Globally, western boys/men have been deliberately culturally emasculated. If we, as a species, are to survive, there must be an organized process to reverse this.

As a person who has never compromised my values, it's been tough. Temptation to corrupt yourself is everywhere, and on more than one occasion I've lost meaningful relationships of all kinds because I wouldn't betray how I felt. It's not surprising that Integrity isn't as common these days, the other road is easier and usually gives way to instant gratification, and having honour and strength in your beliefs can really hurt your head, heart, and body. This video reminds me that I'm not alone. I guess it's that people with real integrity don't go around spouting off about it . We are fewer all the time, but don't let the light go out friends.

Love these kind of chats the best. Too much today is focused on money and greed. Ideals may not always pay for meals, but they have value, too, and can improve a life in different ways (just like enjoying a hot drink in the cold woods!) We had some snow in the west as well, and it has not been above 0 degrees in some days. Definitely uncommon here as I understand (I am a new resident) but the snowcapped mountains look beautiful nonetheless so I will enjoy them.

A man and his grandson was climbing a mountain to get a tree to make axe handles. At the bottom of the mountain the grandson picked out a tree. "That tree is no good." Replied Grandfather. Half way up the mountain the grandson picked out another tree. "You can't make an axe handle out of that tree, son. It'll break." Finally, at the top of the mountain the grandfather picked out a tree. The grandson replied, "but that tree looks exactly like the other two. How do you know IT won't break?" To this Grandfather said, "Because it's been through a lot of storms with no shelter. The other trees haven't seen great winds and endless days of steady breeze. This one will make fine axe handles that will not break." It's the same with men of integrity. They have to take alot from this world because they will not be bought off and they admit their mistakes and deal with them, but when life gets tough they do not break so easly as those that lie and cheat to cushion their way. They, men of integrity, may look the same as everyone else, but when tested, they prove to be much more of a man.
