I highly recommend periods of alone time! It strengthens self-reflection and builds character. The majority of my time I'm alone - with the exception of my husband and daughter. Most people here in Germany just don't share my mentality, so I'd rather spend my time alone than in company that irritates me. Never felt lonely. Books will teach you more than fools.

When they are not of the image we made them out to be prior to meeting them, we have ourselves to blame. Much like how I lowball my paychecks, I lowball my potential experience with people. I've said it once before, but will again: I really wish I had had a dad like you, Bjorn. Down to earth, smart, good advice, teaching life skills that matter, and most importantly, a desire to teach... all the things needed to make a successful adult from a child. I had a step-dad for 12 of my first 13 years, but he paid only minimal attention to me, and for very short periods of time when he did. Toss the football with me? Sure, for about 5-10 minutes, max, never more than once in a summer. I also have 2 older brothers, but they are 9 and 10 years older, so they were never around from the age of 15 on. They were with their friends. So, for all intents and purposes, I grew up an only child from the age of 5, spending innumerable hours alone with only my imagination, and no male influence. My oldest brother tried to play the dad's role, but only when he thought it was time to discipline me. The middle brother barely ever even noticed me. Having to figure life out by yourself as you go along was a shitty way for a young man to grow into the world. I failed at nearly everything I did. I felt defeated easily after failing, since I was never taught HOW to be a man, HOW to react as a man should, or how to tame the horse of life to my whims -- as much as that is possible, anyway. I'm lucky I didn't end up in prison or a grave. Most males in a similar position have a tendency toward those two places. Just wanted to say that I'm envious of your kid(s). They are lucky to have a father such as you. And clearly yours had a good head on his shoulders as well when teaching you as a young one. We're not all so lucky out here, so cherish that. And be sure to pass it on so that future generations will be as strong and confident as they can be.

Thanks, everyone. It's good to know there are still those who walk among us that have empathy for a stranger and offer their advice or well wishes unbidden and with no expectation of anything in return. @Ellie Green -- becoming a parent is no longer feasible as next summer will be my 50th. I used to want to be a father very much. Since I knew what NOT to do, I felt as though I might be a good one. As far as finding a woman to share my final years with, that, too, is about as likely as the sun rising in the north. I spent many years trying to find her after losing "the one that got away," with all attempts being unsuccessful. Then came health issues that created mental issues, both of which making me feel I'd be more of a burden than a partner. I won't inflict myself on any of the few women willing to deal with such a relationship. Nowadays I've become so afraid of loss that I'd rather just isolate myself and avoid the feeling of losing someone very important to me again. I won't even get another dog solely because of how badly it hurt to lose my little fat buddy 6½ years ago -- just 5 months after losing my mother. You are right when you say life is hard for everyone. It's easier for some than for others, but most of us are in the same boat. And I also realize there are plenty that have it worse than I do, which makes me feel like I shouldn't complain; but at the same time, I also sometimes feel that if I don't vent some of the pressure, my head may pop like a balloon.

I'm not really into commenting, but this really touched me to some extent. Just wanna let you know, that I, myself, was completely introverted. However, being alone, I grew such confidence, such freedom that after many years now I feel like I'm just having fun in life. Going around, doing chores, working, whatever it is, always taking it light. Most times people are thinking I'm somewhat of born extrovert. But here's the catch, at least in my own experience. There's no such thing as being introverted or extroverted by definition. It's about your perspective and attitude. I mean you can always say, well people suck, I don't want to be around them. Or you can do the other thing, take it as a game, imagine them being NPC or whatever makes you feel comfy; but my point is - you decide what you wanna be.

Non-playable character means you have no control over that human being, allowing yourself to actually mind nothing else but your own business. Somewhat realizing this concept made me so much more confident taking decisions and actions. Sometimes I'm even shocked how much it comes with that attitude. You simply have fun and just enjoy living, simple as it is! I hope yall having a wonderful time, and happy holidays guys!

I’m very happy with being what’s termed an outgoing introvert. Sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it? But to all appearances, I can do the dance dealing with people -greet, shake hands, make small talk-but as soon as I can, I get as far away as possible and recharge in my own company, as people can be immensely draining. I really do not like people for people’s sake. There has to be something really special about a friend and I have found very few on that level. Sometimes I wish I were one better-an actual true introvert even to outward appearances, thereby keeping everything and everyone at bay, and not leading people on to thinking that I’m truly engaging.

Bjorn, you are a lovely man, and I say that as a women who wishes for her son to be a decent msn too. I tell him that in life you have different categories of friends. There are friends who you can socialise with, laugh, drink, be a bit crazy, then the real 2 or 3 friends are those you may not see for months at a time, or even a few years, but when you meet again the months or years evaporate and you pick up where you left off. Thankfully he has 2 such friends. I listen to your perpectives which both confirm the values that my late father lived by and you have insights, wisdom and observationd that are relevant 21st century. Thank you. All good wishes to you and yours.

Just curious, but if you don't see them in months, years, doesn't i mean you don't really care about each other? Like if you enjoy a friends company and time, support and feedback, you would miss them and seek out experiences together right? I think alot of people just want to be oportunistic and selective because they have narcisitic tendicies due to self deluded ideas about them beeing so great. I have experienced people like that trying to get back to me, but I always look at the story, and if it says this person cut me off or just never had time and something like that, never compromised much, then I owe nothing and reject the person. Unless there is a spirit of genuine respect and interest in the wel beeing of each other, it's not worth much

I feel more lonely with people I don't get along with, than when I'm by myself. I am perfectly well in my own company.

It's never too late to learn. I'm in my adulthood; I agree completely about the benefits of being alone and still need to fully apply it.

I used to tell people that if you're afraid of spending time alone, you aren't a fan of yourself. And ultimately, you are the only person who you have to deal with at the end of the day, so it would make sense to start. Also, being alone is indeed a strength. It gives you time to work on yourself, and having too many friends robs you of that. 21 and I have very few friends, but it's all about quality, not quantity. Thanks for posting this! I recently found you and I'm enjoying your videos!

It brought tears to my eyes when i caught Alex( an autistic boy) watching your video! He pressed pause quickly and I said " do you enjoy the knowledge and wisdom share to you from this man", he said ya why with a stern look on his face! I ran over to him and hugged him and told him how proud I was to see him watching your useful life experience. Thank you for what you do and I can say you do make a difference in a cruel disconnected world👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
