What they have going now is looking pretty good. I still wouldn't buy it. AMD is just as cheap and better in every metric. Saying all that, it's not Intel's first generation. It's the second discrete generation for this attempt at dedicated GPUs. As far as GPUs and drivers are concerned though, well they have been doing integrated for decades. When you consider the fact they have graphics drivers for just as long as AMD and NVIDIA it's actually pretty bad that the drivers were so bad on release.

AMD is worse in productivity and raytracing, also in well optimized games the high shader count of alchemist does alot of heavy lifting. If you want a card that does a little gaming and video, alchemist is really good and with 16gb on the a770 pretty much is the prime choice up until the rtx 4080. The igpu driver is different to the dgpu driver, intel had to start over. and alchemist is also the first globally launched gpu that will get a successor. everything else gpu that Intel did was either a protoype, limited one generation launch or an igpu. I purchased the A750 the first week in July this year. Overall I am very impressed with this card. When I first installed the card I started going through my steam library trying to find problems. I only found a couple of games that were problematic, Halo Infinite would not start and Darktide would crash. I joined the Intel Community Forums and after reporting my findings the problems with Halo were quickly corrected. Right now I've been playing Remnant 2 at 1080p, Ultra with Xess balanced and it's running very smooth at around 70 fps.

I own this card and have done some testing recently. Across the board, it's around 8-10% faster than the A750, so you could apply that modifier to these results in the video and it'd be approximately correct. However, when getting to 4K rendering, the 16GB and great mem bandwidth of the A770 will keep the performance much higher still than any of the cards here.

Not gonna lie, power consumption on such low-mid grade cards is irrelevant to 99% of customers. People buy what they can afford regardless how much power it consumes. Often when the Intel ARC card was losing, the 1% lows were so incredibly close to the average that the experience might actually be better with a lower average. It is absolutely not unthinkable that someone who bought a lower mid range GPU with their system at that time would be considering an upgrade by now. Secondly: people looking for an absolute value build right now, where every penny counts, could also consider the A750. Pair it with a $95 AM4 board, a Ryzen 5600 and a DDR4 3600 kit and they have a foot in the door at 1080p gaming with the prospect of either Ultra or High in almost every game for some time to come.

Of the two I bet this AI gig is the more stable and long term. Bitcoins was a market doomed to fail in a relatively short time. Demand for AI on the other hand is just going to increase for the foreseeable future. Please nobody ask Nvidia what the development costs are for a new generation graphics cards and what the driver development and maintenance cost. They may just decide enough is enough and drop the graphics cards entirely to save on these parasitic costs. And then it's a duopoly again.

Scanning through the comments there seems to be one thing most people (intentionally?) forget: The A750 (and 770, for that matter) are based on the ACM-G10 GPU. That's a 406 mm² die, made on the TSMC N6 node with roughly 21 billion transistors. The RX 7600's Navi 33 die is also on TSMC N6, but only 204 mm² in size and comes in at around 13.3 billion transistors. And that's rather large compared to the 4060's AD-107 with 159 mm² and 18.9 bn transistors thanks to TSMC's 4N node. For the amount of silicon the A750 packs, the performance is still abysmal. Even Navi 22 (RX 6700 series), AMD's last gen mid-range die was appreciably smaller (~335 mm², 17.2 bn transistors) and just N7, not N6. And that one wipes the floor with an A750. You could say "what do I care about all that crap?" and for the sake of Steve's test you'd be right. But: Since Intel won't be getting any discounts from TSMC, there's a snowball's chance in hell they're making *any* money at Arc's current pricing. Even the long gone MSRP of $ 290,- was - best case - at cost. Again: Why should you care? Because all that really doesn't look good for Battlemage, Intel's 2nd gen dGPU. Silicon isn't getting any cheaper, less so with all the AI craze going on right now. Considering the real performance gap Intel has to close, not the camouflaged one with their current prices, they'd have to pull of nothing short of a miracle for Battlemage to be competitive. Because if it isn't, I wonder for how long they are not even willing but simply *able* to sell their GPUs at cost, if even that. I'm all for competition and the current gen is rather lackluster, both Nvidia and AMD alike. But I'm also a realist, and the whole "Intel is coming to save us all" is becoming a little long in the tooth. And if there's one thing Intel's not really known for these last years it's working miracles.

Based on rumors and leaks I’d seen elsewhere, I believe the speculation was slim, single-digit percent margin on A380 and A770, basically at-cost at best on A750, at launch prices. Allegedly they overbuilt based on rosy performance predictions and an assumption the market would stay hot, and now they’re stuck with inventory. Where that matters for enthusiasts is that same sources seem to believe Intel isn’t gonna attempt 6 models (A310/380/580/750/770 8g/770 16g) the second time around, and isn’t gonna overproduce so dramatically.

@@jameslake7775 That's what I heard, as well. And if the rumors that they're only going to design two dies for Battlemage prove to be correct, I wonder if that's actually referring to the hypothetical BMG-G10 and G11, or if these "two dies" already include the tile they're designing for integrated graphics. If so, I wouldn't bet money we're ever going to see them reach "Druid" before they're forced to ax AXG entirely (I know that the name and the independence of the division are already gone).

For entry-level GPUs the important question is less about max FPS (90 vs. 100 fps is basically the same) and more about "can it play the games for a given resolution smoothly?" so I think a useful summary slide would show the matrix how many games each GPU could play at 60fps or higher (like 38/41 for 1080P, 31/41 for 1440P, etc.) for of the 3 GPUs, 2 resolutions, and 2 RT settings.

I will say however, I really do miss RTX Broadcast but with some VST plugins and using Intel's virtual camera I've pretty much replicated everything I used it for anyways.

Price seems about right. The buyer who plays games that aren’t mainstream or DX12 does risk games not loading, being very slow, or having unforeseeable issues. I wish Intel had fully embraced the software compatibility aspect, as these issues simply make last gen AMD and Nvidia more attractive.

I'm very glad to see you testing the A750 properly. I've criticised you before for not including Arc so I'm pleased to see you rectify that. I have an A770 and really haven't experienced the problems you have but then I mostly game on my RTX 4090, playing Far Cry (the original) on my A770 because it works there but won't on my 4090. I do have two questions: first, did you check VRAM usage? I wonder if the A750 is using more VRAM than the other GPUs and that might affect results. Second, news has just come out that Sparkle are now selling a 16 GB A770 for $299, allegedly with a mild overclock; how does that change your evaluation? Would I recommend an A750? Probably not: I'd recommend a RX 6600 or similar card to most people, unless there were a particular need for an Arc card. Arc Alchemist bodes well for Arc Battlemage; let's see Intel bring real competition to Nvidia next year.

In the UK, this card is slightly more expensive than a 6650XT and slightly less expensive than an RTX 3060. but both of those cards are still way more appealing to me within this price range. At this point in time, you're gonna have fewer headaches if you just stick with AMD or Nvidia.

How does the A770 performance compare to the A750? I am seeing the A770 listed for $250 with a two game bundle. I have some people asking me what the best GPU is in the $200-300 price range. That is for the 8gb version, so I don’t know if it would be viable… But for only a bit more, you do get more performance, in theory at least. And if you are interested in the games they have bundled, it could be an option.

It's good that Intel is sticking with it, they're really improving their drivers it seems. Maybe in the next 2 gens they'll be competitive. I've head rumours of the next gen being as powerful as the 4080 but I have serious doubts lol. But that's the kind of performance I'm looking for so if they can release something like that next year for half the price I'd give it a go
@ryanspencer6778
@ryanspencer6778 Жыл бұрын
4080 is probably a little out of reach, but I think the 4070ti isn't. 4070ti is about as good as a 3090, and A770 is in between the 3060ti and 3070, while not making efficient use of it's transistor count. If the B770 has twice the Xe cores of A770 as rumored, and Battlemage is a more effective architecture, then yeah. I can see 3090 level performance being reasonable to hit. Perhaps even beyond that.

With the latest driver boost I'm glad to see this video being released showing the progress and competition. Intel still has a lot of work to do with DX11 games, and they seem committed through the rest of this year on working on it. It's wild how much their driver was gimping their Arc cards because it had been originally optimized for their iGPU's. We should see some more respectable gains coming.

Looks like a solid entry-level card for people who want to buy new! Will you do the A770 next? That will be interesting to see as well. Nice to see a card with a reasonable pricetag and 16GB of VRAM for people who can't afford to shell out for a 4070 / 7700XT or better. Also, shallow commentary here but I really like the simple visual design of the ARC cards... I like seeing graphics cards that just look like a graphics card in today's market :D Other manufacturer's aesthetic choices are getting out of hand-- and I'm sure adding unnecessary costs.

I really hope Intel continues to stand behind Arc and invest in future generations of dedicated GPU's, there is genuine potential here for the GPU market to finally get a third big competitor. They seem to have overcome a lot of the issues that came with being new to the market. But I also get the feeling they probably lost a lot of money in this first generation. I'm scared they're going to ditch it if they feel it won't work out in the long run (seeing how Intel has been killing off many branches of their products, everything from SSD's to Nuc's).

Games that barely run 60FPS at 1080p (R9 290-250W), now run at 60FPS with only like 45-90W (A750). for example maxed WoT doesn't go above 75W at 1080p It's a good GPU, i bought it for 220$ or so (1200PLN with VAT)

Thank you for the Updated Video... In Jan and April of this year, I built 2 new Computers using the Arc A770 (for $300). The first game for my daughter and I to play was Hogwarts. We were Both very happy with the performance and have ZERO complaints. Sure, the Numbers say slower... But I really could not tell the difference in play, from my friends 306ti and the A770. In the End, I am VERY happy with the performance and price for the cards. The extra VRAM and Intel's commit to make better drivers and this Latest Benchmarks, say I am good for 2 years. For the record, I originally planned to install a 4070ti, until Intel released the Pricing. A GPU should not cost more than then the whole system combined and need to be replaced every 3-4 years. My first GeForce card from the EVGA 260 (Leaving ATI behind for good), and I purchased for me, son or daughter every card, up to the 2060 super (skipped the 1060).

A770LE owner here, "it's not all smooth sailing but it does get there in the end" sums up my experience very well. I use the GPU at 4K and sure, FPS > 90 is rare, but Adaptive Sync is a true miracle at masking that. There has been no game where I didn't eventually forget I was using a "public Beta" GPU and found myself just enjoying the game. With that said, I do enjoy tweaking settings, and I enjoy the occasional polygon -- no matter how hard they try, games still look like games (if you don't want to see polygons, go outside!).

I bought my adult daughter an A750 for the computer I built her. World War Z is pretty much broken on the A750, and has been since launch. I remember discovering it and I was able to find one review (don't remember offhand who reviewed it) that used World War Z as a benchmark, and their experience was the same as what I was seeing. While Intel professes that it prioritized it's time with modern API's (DX12, and Vulkan), it seems like either the game or the driver is causing an issue whereby you can't select Vulkan as the renderer. Either the game doesn't recognize the GPU's capabilities or the driver isn't reporting them to the game properly. In DX11, the game is a mess. First off, the CPU usage goes to 100% on a Ryzen 7 3900X. I don't know what the game is doing and this in the menu as well. I thought it might be precompiling shaders, but it never seems to finish. Then if you run the built in benchmark, the performance is horrible. It stutters something awful due to the aforementioned CPU usage. With the CPU usage that high, the GPU usage only gets to something south of 30%. Beyond the stuttering mess, there is artifacting as well, with flashing visual elements. With each new driver release, I check to see if they've fixed it, no luck. All of her other games work pretty well.

When I was ordering components for my Raptor Lake build (yes I chose i5-13600K), I saw an Intel bundle for the Arc A750 and i5-13600K for $520 on Newegg at the time. I had a spare RTX 3060 12GB but after giving eVGA the shaft and butchering the 4060, I was disillusioned by NVIDIA and went straight full Intel. Yeah I was dealing with the teething problems of Arc but Intel always listened and assisted with not just workarounds but good driver updates. Over time, Arc has gotten better. It still has a ways to go, but the outlook is promising. Like many, I hope for good things with Battlemage.

I have been using Arc 750 for about 10 months. The only game I played was RDR 2. It was generally good for video editing and rendering needs, but my comment about RDR 2 as a member of the Y generation who has been away from games for years: it could have been better. For the last 3 months, updates have been coming almost every 20 days. But I don't know what the latest situation is. Despite the 37% price difference in Turkey, I bought a 4060 and watched the test video while waiting for the shipment. I just bought an A750 on Friday to test it out this weekend for a friends potential budget build. I have the A380 as a rendering card using QuickSync and it seemed OK in the little bit of game testing on lowest settings I did with that. The potential of the A750 seemed good so I thought I'd give it a whirl. It did ok, the 1% lows were noticeable in a couple games. My main complaint was in Diablo 2 Resurrected. It was missing a lot of textures and a few flashing box glitches. They still have some driver issues to sort out based on your testing and mine. Not sure I'm going to keep this A750 sadly. I'll probably go with the 6600XT.

A750 consumes ~165 Watts under full load, 4060 is ~125 Watts. That's 40 Watts more heat going into your room while getting ~20% less performance on average. I don't consider 40 Watts to be a negligible amount of power draw. That and that alone would ALWAYS make the A750 a complete non-option for me, personally. Using the 4060 as the baseline, investing ~30% more power to get 20% less performance is just not a good deal. I have also heard that the 4060 had extreme power issues in idle upon launch, drawing more than 20 watts when it was basically supposed to shut down. Those are things i would love to be pointed out more in reviews, in general. In my humble opinion, if you buy a GPU to run 4k at reasonable rates you will have to accept that it will draw a lot of power - there is no way around that with current technology. But at the low/low-mid range level of GPUs power efficiency should really shine. I mean, this is the tier of current level GPUs that get clocked/stripped down - they SHOULD be extremely power efficient.

Forza Horizon 5 runns in Ultra at 4k (and i am running a Ryzen 3600), with some hitches, but small ones, switch on the superb looking XESS to quality and it runs smoooooth. But playing the 23 years old Mafia 2 (non """remastered""" version), there are stutters everywhere! And yes i am aware it has trouble with DX9 or whatever that is, but seriously, it's sooooo old. They really should just skip their translation layer and map DX9 and 10 games to Vulkan by default or something like that.
