Intel's ARC B580 Graphics Card Isn't What I Hoped...

Well, it seems that the B580 is getting plenty of love from other reviewers; which I am genuinely happy about; as we absolutely need this ARC GPU to succeed to bring affordable gaming to more people. Now, the big question is - "Why are you the only channel that doesn't like this?!" Well, as we see in the video, I had serious issues with Ghosts and Dragon Age, then in the benchmarking process, CS2 and PC2. This meant that of the games tested across three PCs (and yes a clean install on one of them), Four games had big problems. Plus warnings in Halo and Returnal that you have an incompatible GPU. Good to great performance in the rest. Intel also emailed us with a new driver after the initial film, as follows: "We will post a new driver Dec 9, Monday morning Pacific Time. This driver will ONLY contain the below app-specific fixes: Dragon Age: The Veilgard corruption and crash fixes Ghost of Tsushima improved frametimes Star Wars Outlaws crash fix Black Myth: Wukong performance and crash fixes with ray tracing enabled God of War Ragnarok texture fix F1 24 improved frametimes Genshin Impact crash fix" After this, I then retested the games, and rebenchmarked the card, for the numbers you see here - so a weeks worth of testing. I appreciate that my results are different to others out there, but it is my job to report on my experience, warts and all. How could I post a video saying that this is a perfect card, and you should all buy one, when I had these issues, of which CS and PC2 are currently unresolved? Anything but the my honest experience would be disingenuous to you, and this video reflects my week with the ARC card. You are welcome to disagree with my verdict, but in my opinion, it is a wise choice to wait to see how this card fares after a couple of months of maturity. I love you all - and will always give you the honest truth - it would be a lot easier to say this is great, and to run out and buy it, but that wouldn't be reflective of my experience. I think some of your criticisms are valid but I feel like you threw a tantrum a bit here. You are obviously using pre-release drivers so a few bugs here and there are to be expected. Having watched other reviewers, they welcome Intel's gen-on-gen improvements and praise the fact that they didn't have to report as many bugs as they did with the A-Series. I disagree that Intel needs a flawless launch, they need an okay launch with a card that can go toe-to-toe with the 4060 at a good price. This card does that and many of your peers agree. It's not perfect but this is an awesome card. Respect for being the dissenting voice though, even though I disagree.

@PC Centric, GBP is losing it's value fast so don't expect RRP to be relatively lower than of US Prices because of economics. Though the RRP is the same in UK and US it's still bit cheaper and outperforming 4060

I do think there will be teething issues with the battlemage launch (as with all cards, even the big two can has day 0/1 issues with game launches and stuff). I already have an ARC a770 16GB, so I won't buy an B580. But if anyone has a 3050 8GB or below, buy it. It works great. And there are quite a few KZbiners that make content with ARC. So if you want to see if your game runs on it, ask these creators(or me) to benchmark them. But maybe LTT, GN or Hardware Unboxed will make more game Benchmarks.

If you _really_ want Intel to succeed, then how about being fair to the hardware, and not judging it based on a really early driver issue? Nvidia frequently has problems with the drivers that they put out or performance in certain games, which is why they release new drivers. That's no different here. Why should a screen recorder be included in a driver in the first place? I don't see how this is a problem or a missing feature. The Software has enough options, in my opinion. Most people won't change most of these settings, anyway. I also don't really get your criticism about the flickering issues. There were fixes for them immediately, and the current situation is much better than the a series was at launch. While it's nice to see a critical review, i think you are way to negative about this

Lots of people dogpiling but I don't think that's justified. To be clear, I also disagree with the statement in the title that it's disappointing, but I don't think there's methodology issues here. They're reaching a different conclusion based on the same data because they weigh the user experience aspect much more heavily than most reviewers (and realistically also more than most of the audience for PC part reviews). So yeah, not a popular take but definitely not invalid either in my opinion. Don't bully away reviewers for speaking their mind, even if you disagree! [EDIT]: Getting driver issues that other reviewers don't isn't indicative of a methodology issue, the part should work on all systems, not just on the review bench.

I think the naming convention is good. They have a whole alphabet to get through, whereas Nvidia has 5 more numbers before they need to figure out a new naming convention. I'd reserve judgement for the inevitable B780. If the 580 is being compared to the 4060 they must be targeting higher up Nvidias ladder with the B780. Hopefully with this being second gen they're looking at expanding their offering too. B980?

The only B580 on Amazon UK currently is the Gunnir Photon which is being sold by third party reseller WEELIAO who typically raises prices, OCUK has them officially for around £240-270 depending on manufacturer, even Aliexpress has the Gunnir version for around £280-300

Just because something is new, it does not mean it is good. It could have 99 gb of vram but if the game i want to play looks broken, it does not matter.

@@daunted232 Hardware Unboxed did a video that tested almost every single game they owned on the Arc GPUs and 95% of them ran without issues, and most of the ones that had issues at the time are already fixed with driver updates. Edit: Also just realized you seem to be spamming the comments on this video, replying to almost every comment saying how the GPU sucks because of X or Y reason. Weird behaviour.

@@daunted232 Intel is constantly updating the gpu drivers to the point where its now pretty good , we must remember that this is their 2nd generation of desktop gpus. And a broken game can be fixed but not the physical hardware , u cant slap another 4Gb vram to a 8gb card , but could fix the game in subsequent driver updates.

Huh you had the worse experience of the all the reviews I've watch so far. Even some of the issues you've had were fixed before launch so anyone buying a B580 tomorrow won't even experience that. It's like rating a product on the beta version rather that the released one. Yea bro makes sense.

i just watched daniel owens and linus reviews on the b580 and saw this and decided to come have a look and see what a negative review looks like for the b580. next stop is gamer's nexus and hardware unboxed onto jayz and the rest ^_^

This is by far the best option for a < $1000 PC. The fact that it scales also very well with resolution also makes me look forward to the B780 model, where 1440 or even 4K gaming is more realistic. Intel did a great job here. There should be no disappointment! The few problematic games can and will be fixed with driver updates as Intel has shown with their first generation.

This is what youtubers do. They choose to post a video that they know will contradict other reviews. Knowing negative reviews will generate more views. So, if i had to guess, this was the reason why he chose to take the negative route. It is a well-known way to get views.

I don't think so since the performance lift isnt too big. You should save up for a 1440p gpu later. (b580 is still great btw)
