@@theauthorisnotdead6080 to be fair he said much more than that. He elaborated on why he thought it was an awful play in fairly intricate detail, then slammed that statement down to emphasise his view on how bad he thinks it is. If you watch the full podcast you will see, and his explanation is pretty good too. I say this as a fan of JL.

Polk and Little both act like there is some magic 8-ball of knowledge out there and only IF you learn that knowledge from THEIR teaching, then you will be successful, like they are, when the reality is the exact opposite. NLHE is a luck bucket, very streaky game and there is no way to "master" a game of randomness and luck, which are what card games are all about. Need proof? there is a recent video of Polk getting trip K's on a flop to someone who got trip A's on the flop and Polk bet and raised the guy all the way to the river, calling an all in bet. Now if the guy actually had some skill at reading people, how does he make that big of a mistake at this stage of his "career" and all his knoweldge? How? Because there's no skill to the game. You get lucky or you dont.

Little is on the right track but slightly off. You are typically not playing a solver (which I agree will play better on turn/river) but a human. If that human plays worse than you on later streets, then you can actually play a wider range than the solver. Now, if your opponent is a solver, you can expect to lose money but if you want to mininize your losses, you should play a tighter range due to the reverse implied odds of playing a superior opponent on later streets. Not nice for Berkey to make this comment without expanding on why Little is wrong. It's like he expects us to accept his claim just because he's Berkey. I don't like that - support your arguments with logic and if it's logic you're unwilling to share because you don't want to make games tougher, then just say nothing and allow Little to misguide the masses.

Berkeys point is you don't end up better by folding preflop in a +EV position. EV is a zero sum game. If you fold a +EV spot that EV goes to the other players. The whole idea of what JL said was fold now because you can't play the hand well. But the flipside is you opponant is just as likely to make mistakes. So folding EV away pre-flop is silly. He is right. No matter how much I think of JL he is wrong on this one. Berkey handled it badly. It could have been a great chance to work with JL and discuss this play which was Daniels point. That was missed entirely by Berkey. I devolved from there.
@kristoffernilsson6043
@kristoffernilsson6043 5 ай бұрын
The point with JLs argument here about folding a small + ev spot which i most assume is what he means is: Its only a small EV + spot if you know how to play the hand out, this is something that has been proven many times over the years - the newer and less experience the player is - the less he will benefit from these spots and because he plays them so passive and face up in many situations it will instead become a - EV spot in the long run and he will simply lose more money playing than folding these closer hands. This is why most poker players dont rise up the ladders, because they dont learn the level they play before starting to mix in smaller + EV hands etc. It takes alot of patience/ investment of time and good bankroll management to have a chance at moving up the stakes, instead they take shoots and go broke. Berkey should know this by now that its no point teaching a noob or less experienced poker player how to play close spots til they have learned more about strong value/hand selections/position etc.

First 30 seconds you already got it completely wrong. Berkey never mentioned Little's coaching methods or his character (other than complimenting him), but rather the way he advertises that "anyone can become a winning poker player" if you use his coaching site. Berkey often speaks out of turn thinking his opinions are the correct ones, but he is is right on this one. The vast majority of people cannot become winning poker players no matter what. All these "high stakes" clowns like Negreanu, etc, typically only play in events with less than 100 people in them because they cannot beat fields with hundreds of people in them anymore and they have literally ruined the game since 2008-09. The proof is in the fact that in the last 14 years, Las Vegas has lost over 60% of the poker tables that existed. There is no difference between playing this luck bucket NLHE game for nickels and dimes or playing it like Negreanu, Polk, etc- using your sponsors money to sit down at a $25/50 game with $300,000+ - the luck does NOT change and it's the reason why you see these clowns try to make it seem like there's some skill to it because they play with more money. The way to become successful at NLHE is by playing a lot of games/tournaments. Period. There is no magic 8-ball of knowledge anyone can give anyone else, other than dont gamble with the rent money.
