Ladies and gentlemen! Introducing a whole new series to the channel. It’s called The Short Clip. This is something I have been meaning to do for a long time. Sometimes I get good footage, that just doesn’t fit into any episode. Sometimes I feel like a moment is so special that it needs its own video. I also understand that most people don’t have time to watch a full one hour long Inflight Series episode. So, from now on I’ll be posting these “short clips” of footage that I deem as important enough to have its own short video. For those of you who do enjoy watching my full-length videos, do not fear, The Short Clip videos will not replace any of the five regular videos that I upload every week. These will be completely separate and will be posted at varying times. There will be no set upload schedule for them. They will basically be “in addition to” the five regular videos you see every week. With that being said you guys get a real treat today! For the first ever Short Clip episode you get to see a very intense aborted landing/diversion while attempting to beat a thunderstorm into Joplin, MO on a American Eagle ERJ-175! Enjoy!

Modern aircraft have detection systems for windshead and will make an audible Call Out. When they hear “Wind Shear”, the Captain will repeat the call and then determine whether to continue landing or go around. 99.9% of the time, the Captain will call for a Go-Around as Wind Shear usually happens just about or below minimums. In this case, I’m sure they recorded the Call Out well before the actual event happened but decided to continue, until they realized they were unable to stabilize.
@bobbyd6680Ай бұрын
Windshear. The whole plan dropped. That is why WS is so dangerous during the landing approach when close to the ground, the plane suddenly loses lift.

KZbin's algorithm decided that I should watch this video. Wow!! Those T-storm clouds were Holy Shit Dark!! Looked like they may have been tornado forming clouds. The big clue is if they have spikes on the top of the thundercloud and are on the back side. Back in 1972, I was in a DC-10 going to West Palm Beach and we went thru thunderstorms. I saw lightning hit the wing of the plane. The drafts were tossing our plane around wildly. This was after our flight was already delayed because of a bomb scare on the aircraft. I was 13 back then going to see my grandmother for spring break. Later that week, we flew up to Disney World for a few days on a 2-engine prop plane. On the return flight back down to PBI, we went thru some serious thunderstorm clouds and it was tossing our plane around like you wouldn't believe. Excellent job by the pilot of your aircraft!

I remember being in a Jetblue ERJ-190 when there was severe turbulence during approach due to a passing storm... I've never seen a plane's wing flex so much, and we were pretty much being tossed around the cabin as we descended (unfortunately some people couldn't hold in their upset stomachs). Saw the flight path afterwards and the plane made a pretty interesting shape lol. It's always funny how calm the flight attendants are, that's when you know you're probably going to be alright!

Hey Skylite. You're buddy from dirty jersey saying hi, whilst sitting here at the AAA waiting for them replace my rear brakes, and scheduling the kidney donation for what they are charging me. I've watched this video quite a few times, and still love it today. With all you know about my obsession with jet aircraft and flying, for the most part, all I really enjoy are the takeoffs and landings (toga especially). Most flying at altitude is generally smooth, uneventful, and well, boring as heck. I LOVE turbulence! Makes flying more exciting. Whether is has been commercially, with my brother flying, or whatever, I've had NOT a few, pretty harrowing experiences, and I love it. And if the weather is severe enough, and I am scheduled to meet my maker in very short order, at least I will be doing what I love and enjoy. Timing is everything in life; so amazing to be there on that particular flight in those conditions and also to have another video of the aborted landing, shot from the ground as well. Great video.

Yes indeed. It's not often we get to see something like this from multiple angles. Thanks for watching my friend!

That storm looks just obscene... splendid filmwork here mate.

Coming from Dallas I had nice clear skies the whole way up. It was at about 1:00 in, when we turned base, that I knew we were in for a bumpy ride. Thanks for watching my friend!

One of the few videos where I feel like you captured the "feeling" of the turbulence on camera. I'm sure stomachs were flying around!
@sla316 жыл бұрын
I appreciate that my friend. I'd like to think the years of practice I have when it comes to filming flights played a roll in that. Also, there were definitely some churning stomachs. Thanks for watching!

Holy..!!! That looks REALLY bad. Never seen anything like this on YT. For once, the person behind the cam doesn´t fake it... second that turbulence does not fool around... THAT is severe.. or even extreme it seems some times. I would crap my pants being in your shoes... great job filming and making the video.

Got some good experience and maturity on the flight deck. Calm, professional, puts the best face on things, but most important, he he removes himself and his passengers to a safer area to wait out the thunderstorm passage.

I had one bad landing at Toronto International on a 747-200, (British Airways), and that was bad enough because that is a massive aircraft. We didn't abort, although it was the roughest landing I ever had. I had sympathy for people landing in smaller aircraft. A mile from the end of the runway at 1000ft we dropped 500ft and powered-up and climbed back up to the Glide-Slope. When we finally landed we were on 100% reverse thrust and I never saw an aircraft stop so quickly. As we walked into the terminal, I realized that we had to fly back to London. Walking on the ground never felt so good.

Wow, that pocket at 2:45 would make any pilot cringe! Good choice for a go-around!

Why would somebody give this video a thumbs down? It’s clearly a great video and IS what it says it is! There is another video on Facebook take from the airport and it’s equally as good.

All it takes is one big gust at the wrong time and you're going around. Hats off for keeping it under control in crazy winds like that.

One can always tell from a video that an approach was really intense when its noticable how the conversation in the cabin gradually dies down to none at all in the last few seconds before touch down. Terrified passengers dont make small talk.

Excellent video! That ERJ was taking a beating. Very wise choice to abort and divert.

Thank you my friend! Despite how good these pilots skills were, I think this little ERJ was on the limits of its crosswind abilities. Thanks for watching my friend!

8 minutes to SGF? Was the flight back longer? Kind of like a flight I was on one time that went DCA - ORF - PHF. That last segment, hopping across Hampton Roads was about 8 minutes. Loved and liked the video.
@sla316 жыл бұрын
Not much longer. The return was 18 minutes from gate to gate, so actual air time was probably close to 10 minutes. The two cities are only about 50-60 miles apart. Thanks for watching my friend!

I went through something like this when I was landing in Springfield IL on August 10th of this year and I have to say I wished I recorded it but this brings back that terrifying memory and I haven't flown in a while but since I'm writing this comment I made it to the ground 😅
