I decided to take a rest from those that don’t appreciate me or my time… naturally I’m a “savior”, and just recently I noticed that while I was so busy saving others, I had no one to save me. It was a hard realization, but it was life changing.

I am an introvert. I definitely need a place of solutide where I can breathe and relax. My intentions are putting myself first, loving me more, less people pleasing. More self love and healing

I’m sitting in the garage now, in comfy picnic chairs, with my husband, the fan blowing on us, as we listen to nature and look at the trees blow in the wind. I’ve forced him to take a break and unplug from the laptop. The man works so much and it makes me worry for him. I too am a recovering over-worker, but I’ve also been practicing intentional self-care for the past decade. I quit my job exactly a year ago and have done gig or contract work or been a Stay-at-home wife. I’m re-entering the labor force soon snd I’ve already set my intention that I’m working mediocre, average. I’m not giving it my all. I’ll be professional, but average and then I’m going home.

Thank you so much… and rest is so important. Society, in my opinion, over stresses the idea of work. Getting it in… but not realizing the impact it has on our mental health. And you are so welcome!!! Keep pushing forward ❤️❤️

I agree with your opinion and share a similar experience as you. I found out my brother transitioned while working at the bank, told my manager while running out in tears. The lack of compassion I experienced upon returning from bereavement let me know the bank didn’t genuinely care about my mental health or the time it truly took to mourn my brother. Took some years but I made peace. Thank you!! Always pushing forward. ♥️✨

I don’t think I’ve seen such a genuine response to “rest” like this in my lifetime. Thank you. Deepest condolences for your loss of you mother. It’s a heavy loss of the heart - also know that she will continue to live through you❤. I personally am going through my own metamorphosis right now. 🧱Age 27 is scientifically recognized to be when the women’s brain is to be fully developed. I feel like I have been on the constant go and at times so - so close to running off the edge. In this moment I’m taking my time to rebuild a better track for myself with REST STOPS. Stops throughout the day where I am able to just focus on myself/ regulation/ meditation and focus on balance. As a writer and reader, i am always drawn to writing my life story as it’s still being written ***. A better practice is that I make time for that (yes)-- but prioritize my living first with dignity and love. Thank you for creating such a safe space.

Self-Care is on my radar, and has been for 3 yr consecutive years. However, I forget to be me & not mommy, wife, sister, friend etcetera. It's when that overwhelming feeling creeps up that I soon recognize....hey woman, slow down & take rest. Even in my best efforts I slip back into habit of rescuing everyone else. September I chose to step back so my soul can cry. Those tears cleansed my heavy heart, and lifted my spirit. I started walking the trail again, eating halal again returned to fresh fruits & vegetables. Those hesitant yes's became on wavering NO's. Whew baby it felt good. Cut ties with toxic relationships. Sat with myself. Love on myself with empathy, passion & depth. Today, I'm free. Thank You sweet sister, for being present & timely. I love you. Warm Awakening, Resilience & Reflections. This video message resonated with me because we are over stimulated with technology and busy with life that we do not acknowledge to take the time to give ourselves grace to rest. I’m an advocate for rest because people can be so demanding and needy of your time that they dismiss the fact you are one person and have other obligations, that this preconceived notion you are obligated to do for them at the same token they do not respect the boundaries you have set for yourself to reset and rest. I am honestly thinking about changing my phone number. Honestly, this thought has been heavy on my mind. I love this and shared this video.

@Divineandmelanated (I LOVE that handle of yours!) I feel you! I got out the rat race of being a busy body and doing for others all the time. I didn't know HOW to rest and unplug from all the noise UNTIL I moved away from my comfort zone (hometown and everyone I was connected to) and went into seclusion. I held my boundaries of not being all up in the family and friends tornado and now, barely anyone reach out to me now and it's been almost 4 years. AND I'm okay with that. Folks will run you ragged if you let them. I've thought about changing my phone number too, but it would be too much of a hassle so I made use of the good ole' block feature. It has works pretty well. I wish you peace, love and light. 💫💫

This was definitely for me! Your story about your mom's death reminded me of when, about 11 years ago my mom was sick in the hospital for a week for an unexpected major surgery and i had to cancel plans for a group weekend/trip with someone i had known since college. This happened about 3 weeks prior to the event and i would be going back and forth to help my mom during recovery.. and my "friend" didn't even have the decency to respond when I texted her telling her what was going on. Didn't ask how my mom was doing or anything. As a matter of fact i didn't hear from her again until like 8 months later when her father was sick and she asked for prayers. Not to mention that a year before that her own mom passed away and when she needed to "get away" i dropped things, moved things around because she needed a partner in crime for the weekend, and im a true friend. I've since, prioritized my peace and cut anything that didn't bring me peace out of my life. Dead friendships included. Currently taking several months away from work after being overworked and undervalued

Sis this resonanted with me so much. I lost my mother and in my works of being civically engaged, I had someone tell me " we donated to your mom's work isnt that enough" I found myself in a angry state, and that anger carried forth in every engaged process .. I am now utilizing the word NO and taking a sabbatical to reflect and take intentional rest. Thank you for the affirmation and validation.

Beautiful 🖤 I love that you took a moment for you 🌸and your son☺️ I am a semi-retired entrepreneur and never thought I could afford a break or time off so I hustled and did the whole grind thing! This past January I had knee surgery so thankfully I had a small nest egg to carry me through… I’ll tell you that space of time was transformed into REST!!!! I mean it was an opportunity to get out of the rat race, to re-gigger the business to suit a peaceful, more purposeful lifestyle as I ease into full retirement. Pivotal moment! I have gotten bit by the “All Black Women deserve Rest” bug and I’m lovin it😜 Rest is now noted on my calendar with a big smiling face and hearts!!! I love everything about this! I recently had my rest as well and I’ve been so pro- taking care of myself! It’s liberating and allows us to take our power back. We deserve rest it’s our divine right to rest. I have been incorporating this practice in my life and sometimes it disturbs others but it is for me. I’m so glad that you took time to rest! You deserve it. Especially with the many hats we wear as parents. I love what you said “I refuse for the world to pull me in and spit me out.” I wrote it to remember it because it’s so needed. Thank you so much for being you and just being real. You alone are nourishment and food for the soul. Gods beautiful daughter. P.s. I hope that woman that did not allow you to grieve takes a hard look in the mirror about her actions and selfishness. You did not deserve that. May you reap abundance and double for the trouble you experienced with her. Sending you all the love my sister. 💛🌱

You have no idea how timely this message was for me. Recently I made the decision to take back my time and break free from the feeling of always needing to be working. I am a full time teacher, a full time college student and I just about three weeks ago I was also a part time bartender. I consciously let go of my part time job to give myself more time for me, and to be able to connect with my higher self more and regain touch with things that bring me fulfilment outside of just being on the grind constantly. It resonated with me when you were describing your story and elaborating on how detrimental this mindset (constantly working) can be to ones spiritual and mental health. Thank you for sharing meaningful content like you always do. Love and Light to everyone reading.

When I express this feeling this isn’t from a feeling of an excuse at all but I guess me just trying to figure out how to find that pure time for myself without sacrificing my rest once I lay my girls down to bed to just have “ me “ time… I feel a lot of this pressure of GO GO GO since I’m a single mother and get no support from their fathers and it almost always puts or keeps me in what feels like survival mode. Wanting to rest but then knowing if I take this day off I’m losing this amount of money thay helps pay this bill etc. I have though been always open to continue finding new ways to find that independent time and so far us having no tv in the house is a huge blessing… I had to redirect what me time looks like in a sense as a single mother with younger kids. I realized that moment I get to read and my girls are just painting or playing playDoh is also a moment I should be grateful for because that is personal time in a sense alone to be able to focus in on a book I enjoy. I guess I just can’t expect the going to the beach alone , or dining out alone all the time as something for my alone time since it’s not necessarily connected with my reality. No idea If this makes sense but if you have any thoughts or ideas to pass onto me that you incorporated when you were taking care of your son alone I would love to hear that!
@SeasonedDialogue

I absolutely understand where you’re coming from. Taking moments like you mentioned (when your girls are painting) is a minute to relax for yourself. It’s the small things we do here and there which provides much for our mental clarity. I find a moment to read on my downtime. I just do the things I’d like to do when I create time and space for myself. I remember sitting in the car at the library for 45 minutes before picking up my children because I needed a moment. It did me well….

@@SeasonedDialogue ok yes I understand this completely so I’m on board with my switch to view independent time for myself. I’m currently a rising senior college student and I’m spending my summer break on a summer internship. For me I need to value my intentional rest just as much or more than the work I’m doing. I am valuing intentional rest by setting side time and upholding that time with integrity and accountability to myself. I understand that God is with me through it all and I can apply His Living Word and this boundary for every season of my life. I also want to encourage you that you’re great and I support you and what you’re doing.

This is key: I understand that God is with me through it all and I can apply His Living Word and this boundary for every season of my life. Thank you for these words and thank you for being here ❤️

I am taking a year to heal from years of trauma. This is also my journey to self-discovery. I moved to another state in a remote place to heal . For the first time I can breathe.

Thank you Queen as always for your words💜. I gave myself permission to STOP. I am very much depleted, and I had to hit the pause button and put all of my energy into what I WANT to do, and not what everybody else wants me to do. I took the entire week off work, I don’t care what anyone thinks about anything, I don’t care if anyone is upset if I don’t answer a text/pick up the phone, I just don’t care about anyone else’s feelings in regards to how I CHOOSE to BE in my moments. This is MY TIME, and my time is to be spent how I choose to spend it. I appreciate you….I needed this 💜.

Thank you! I suffer at times with depression. It takes all I have within me to will myself out of it. Practicing self love and moving out of my normal routine and environment helps me reset. I have been practicing self love for a few years and has set the necessary boundaries for my health and livelihood. Camping and being in nature is my medicine.

Taking moments for me is waking up at 4am. Pumping milk for my baby. Then going to the gym that's 5 mins away from my home for 1 hour and 10mins and making it home b4 hubby has to go to work. That hour and 10mins is the best part of my day.
