i understand why your lessons are so easy to understand, just because easy is part of your name, the only thing we have to do is play it over and over again. I read through most comments and i find out that 2 years ago someone commented on this video and 5 minutes ago as well, people keep watching and it wont stop, it sounds like you did the video few minutes ago. Mr. Easy! You too good, thank you for your support, we will keep learning from you till we do like you do or more, i really appreciate, we love you.

You are correct, you can setup the router as the DHCP server and it would simplify things. This was a lab demostrating the 'IP helper-address" withing a VLAN enviroment. But take care on which router you would setup the DHCP service, make sure is not a router handling lots of traffic or is already burdened with other services.

hi what is the software you use for demonstrating you labs with all the equipment connected.
@thenetworkingdoctors11 жыл бұрын
@alex yu, my first question would be is this on the same switch or do you have multiple switches with multiple vlans? my sencond questions is can you ping other vlans? If you can't ping other vlans, my third question is did you trunk your ports? Based on your question I can only deduce that your tagged vlans are trying to get accross a non-trunking port.

Thanks brother, I believe the Packet Tracer is free all you need to do is search for it. Udemy has nothing to do with it. @Cubano Madrileno....in this video I am only trying to show the use of the IP-helper command. Therefore, I used an actual server in a different broadcast domain to demonstrate how a host on another broadcast domain can get assigned an IP address, by using the IP helper-address.

Hey brother, the Packet Tracer is available as a link. It points to a website for all to download it. See you soon.

So.. why are you using the last host before the broadcast ip address as the gateway for the subnets, as opposed to the first available host in the network?
@tonyhuynh73818 жыл бұрын
Yes, but probably wouldn't be a good idea to have your default-gateway address right in the middle of your ip range for hosts.
@lung5108 жыл бұрын
i think as for tutorial ;P
@scottclark28697 жыл бұрын
I've actually seen this done in a few companies where production regions will use the first available for the gateway and dev/lab regions will use the last available. Why? Who the heck knows.... Might be an inside joke or something :D

Hello Laz, just want to say excellent job with the tutorial, you made it very easy to understand. I just have one question, I have a SG300 switch which can do inter VLAN routing and am using a Asus-68U wireless router to do my wired and wireless routing on my home network. I'm trying to setup a lab that contains VLANS and want them to have access to the internet. How can I accomplish this without an actual router since i cannot add subinterfaces to the Asus-68U wireless router.

Hi laz great video! One question do you think wol is possible between server vlan (dhcp, dns, ad...) to computers vlans.. I need to wake up my computers from the server which is always turned on and already configured with two dhcp scopes (2 vlans 1 for teachers 1 for pupils).. Our network core is a level 3 cisco switch... As wol doesn't traverse routers even if ip-helpers allow broadcast from computers to dhcp vlan server it doesn't allow wake on lan from vlan server... I thought about using a trunk between but if so no ip-helper will be configurable in that trunk I guess... I hope I was clear enough to hope having an answer from you... Thanks a lot for your help dude

I though the gateway always was the first available in the network you use. Why do you use the last available? Have it something to do with the way you implement the vlans?
@DitchDoctor1827 жыл бұрын
Neopa 93 the gateway can be any address in the usable pool. It is just generically set as the first available address for simplicity. But you could assign it to be any of the ip addresses.
@CitizenPerkins6 жыл бұрын
And some shops use the last usable address for their gateways. Works either way...
