He must be mistaken because on this flight we were testing our automated pilot system. The plane wasn't supposed to return on this flight, but to the ground crew who wern't aware of this test seeing a plane crash, it must have looked like there was an accident.

Adding player at that point would be complicated, you have to manage starting point for him, set some interesting goals (moon landing will be hopefully achieved by that point), manage upload schedules with one more person, and finally, find some youtuber that will agree to join. Maybe a better idea would be secondary powers (ESA vs PRC) space race, starting around 2000, with fancier technology, but less funding. It will omit the issue of unstable savefile if that happens.
