This beautiful Rsx rolled in the door for a tune and after working hard to figure out why it can barely breath we find the intercooler is connected with no turbo or supercharger we find out what it does to the power it can make.
This RsX has every bolt on including
Rbc intake manifold skunk2 70mm throttle body full intake and yonaka exhaust and header with a pair of skunk2 drop in cams. For fuel system it has Acura RDX injectors a 340 fuel pump and a Hondata kpro ecu. The results are awesome! Thanks for watching guys make sure to check out our sponsors .

Doesn’t matter if Brent is dyno-ing a 160HP car or a 1000HP car, he still gets excited and that’s why I watch this channel. I don’t own an import but love to see people get excited about their passion like this.

If the restriction math was worked out (bigger piping or cooler and/or shapes) so it was cooling the charge without causing asthma do you think it would cause a power gain?
@RobertMorgan
@RobertMorgan 4 жыл бұрын
@@oldtin82 true, BUUUUT, if you're intaking under hood air at say 100F, and the outside air passing over the intercooler is 70F, that's a pretty major difference. Remember, yes ambient is ambient but you're CREATING higher than ambient temp from the engine running. You're cooling HOT ambient air with cooler ambient air. X +/- Y no longer = 0. Haven't you ever monitored your IAT sensor(s) against ambient air? They can be radically different.

@eliasmelendez1271 5 жыл бұрын
@@duanebailey6253 depending because remember that F1 engines come with restrictor plates and they still make power around that. Even if you have a 60mm throttle body if you make the intake manifold behind the throttle body like a velocity stack you will see gains off of it. There are ways to go around having a smaller throttle body. That intercooler was just restricting the air flow extremely badly. It's more like trying to breathe threw a coffee mixing straw you will struggle HARD!!

Your the type of person the car enthusiast scene doesn't need. Maybe someone did it for him or perhaps he didn't know what to do and did it himself. Either way he's doing what he loves and having a good time. You on the other hand are displeased because of what he's done, you think so highly about how much you know that it makes you feel like an expert among gods. It'd surprise me if you even own a car. It'd surprise me even more if you even knew what a flare wrench was for, or what crows feet are. Maybe you could tutor me so I can get a law degree. Tell me what one half mass times velocity squared equals. Tell me what variable it represents. Tell me next weeks winning lottery numbers are. Do you like saving money? Oh you must be a penny pincher. Do you have a Lambo or McLaren? Oh you must be poor. Oh you made a mistake? Better write you off as an incompetent dumbass. If he's a ricer then your the rice, because his passion cooks your ass any day.

@@GUEST-qw4te And you can't cool ambient temp air with ambient temp air. If he had a water sprayer on the intercooler and he used one without a restricted flow, I'd say it would gain on an NA setup

@@tenmillionvolts I have to agree to disagree; and this is why: Convection/conduction cooling. Basic thermal dynamics applied with sense, logic and observation. Take a fan blow it against the wall. Notice the spot will get cooler than ambient temps. If you do this to an intercooler without any draw through it, internal temps will go down. It may take more velocity than volume. Realistically, what you're trying to and all intercoolers externally and internally do this...Is create a venturi effect.

@@tenmillionvolts "And you can't cool ambient temp air with ambient temp air." Even if the ambient temp air you're intaking under the hood is 125f and the external air you're cooling it with is 70F ? Ambient is relative only to location. The exact definition is "relating to the immediate surroundings of something." You skin can be an ambient temp of 96F and this propane torch flame is ambient 500F...think it'll heat you? And we haven't even gotten into windchill yet...

This made me think of something interesting. What if, on a turbo car, you made a bypass intake that would bypass the intercooler when not in boost. Like a vacuum operated throttle valve. That way, when under vacuum, you would bypass the intercooler (and the restriction it causes), then route through the intercooler under boost (when the turbo starts compressing and heating the air). This could reduce lag and make the engine more responsive before boost arrives. Maybe. You could almost do it with a blow off valve positioned right before the throttle body. Make it so it opens under vacuum and closes at 0psi.

I ran in Phoenix a 14.01 best ET on street Toyo T1S tires. It was awesome to be part of it very early. Had the second fastest ET in the nation for N/A back then. Its funny.. I ran an intercooler on my partial turbo build when it was na and the car took a major performance hit.. Since turbod I definitely notice a hit in the low end.. I'm going to install a y pipe with a check valve after the intercooler. (Ordered part an hour ago). This will allow the engine to get air on the low end at part throttle and hopefully restore some throttle response... Thanks for the video.

Love your channel and videos! Very instructional and entertaining! I didn’t know anything about import motors, and after watching about 60-70 videos. I think I might be able to build an engine. Referring to videos as I go of course! I used to hate little cars that were loud, I thought they just had loud exhaust, now I know they might have 1000 horsepower motor to match the sound of the exhaust. You changed my opinion about imports! I have a 67 VW but I think I will keep it stock. Can I do anything with a Mercedes 300/CE? It is a 6 cylinder naturally aspirated engine.
