My middle school consisted of Wheelock AS's but for some reason there were two closets that had just the strobes of the CPG's mounted on blank red wall plates.

There use to be a small supermarket near my grandparents house that had a few of these in there. Was always curious as to what they sounded like, but I wasn’t expecting a similar sound to the Wheelock EH devices! The panel in that store was an FCI FC-72 with Federal Signal 4050 pull stations. The smoke detectors were all (probably rebranded) System Sensor 1400 models.

I’ve never seen any fire alarm like that before. That might be one peculiar fire alarm. It has an interesting strobe light as well. Strange one as well. Why does it sound like it has a piezo buzzer thing as well?

yes, Federal Signal made these first before Autocall or selectones made these particular speakers like this while Simplex did rebrand that.

I believe that font is Helvetica, and is quite a common font, with EST just having used it most notably for the Integrity series

That is a very unique device you got there. A similar device I own is a mechanical Federal Signal 450D (C2) with a VALS. Also, the fact that it's related to Space Age devices is very interesting!

I have 2 Federal Signal 450Es that were removed from my school. The original 450E was made for a very long time. I didn't know CPG made / rebranded them. IDK which, since they still make the classic Autocall/ FS 4050 pull station, while FS appeared to have still made the original 450E for quite awhile after they stopped making their other fire alarms. I wouldn't be surprised if that strobe was made by Space Age.

That is an interesting design - I've never seen one like it before. Maybe it's some kind of special alarm, maybe industrial? Whatever it is, i like it. But i think it'd be cooler if there was a speaker version.. or maybe there is? Dont know. Nice video, though!

Oh yeah, I've seen these installed in a building before. In Hamden, CT, the Town Clerk building has those. There are also remote strobe ones too, where those CPG Strobes are mounted on red blank plates, so the system is extremely rare. There are System Sensor Spectralert classics in the system as well, but still rare. Pull stations were Silent Knight SD500's

Fun fact: the potentiometer on the back of the horn controls its volume. I have two of these with Federal Signal V1971 (slanted) strobes on it. They're a bit odd to wire up because of how spread out the terminals are.

I like the FS / autocall directone/ selectones though. Those are super nice . I might be getting some soon. And yes, federal signal was first to make these in the 60s. CPG rebrands them.

Looks like the reflector used on the Space Age VA3/VA4. The horn sounds similar to a Simplex TrueAlert/Wheelock EH-EL1

I have one. Its a rebranded Federal Sig. device. I circuit bent the horn circuit on mine to change the pitch and make it emit other weird sounds.
