I know, right? But he was sensible enough to show us how to rearrange the logs, use some extra kindling, and blow on it. So he smothered it, but he saved it too. And all new kit is a learning curve... he did fine for his out-of-the-box test.

Yeah I wanted to test it with a massive load due to the extra airflow. Maybe used too much LOL you learn as you go with new things...Now you know LOL You're welcome LOL

If you brought this hiking in wet weather it would be money to dry your boots and socks out underneath - would also help you keep your tinder dry when actually starting the fire. 2lbs is a hard sell for most hikers these days though; good thing I consider it a nature rucking! Great channel, keep up the awesome work!

My partner bought one of these for me as a birthday gift.. Two years ago, as he knows I loves me a nice fire when we go camping 🏕. I can honestly say it's one of my favourite things ever. I have just bought a larger one as I've used it that much ( even in the garden at home) that I've burnt a hole in the mesh. The large one is a lot taller and the mesh is 22inch ( the smaller one is 16.5inch). It all collapses down into a small bag just the same, and as a bonus it has 2 mesh liners in it, making it even more of a bargain.

Nice to see with the style of this fire you can pack the logs so close, you can put the big logs on the bottom for embers. They got one now on Amazon that compacts down to 1/3 of the size as this one when portable bc the steel legs interconnect and break apart to pack away. I think the pack dimensions are 9x4 inches. This one is 16.5 inches square they are soon making them in 22 and 28 inches square. Btw can this be used with a ferro rod I heard it can’t bc the steel mesh?

You should build the small fire on top of the logs, it then burns down and it wouldn't smoke out.

Some places have these damned steel fire rings that you are required to use! The fire is in a hole and doesn't get enough air! Put one of these in the ring and you'll get a better burning fire and more heat! Be great everywhere else, too!

Looks good, packs down small, works well, BUT BUT BUT it burnt through the mesh in only two uses !! Talking to others they have had the same problem. Especially along where the mesh is folded before rolling into bag. Mesh gets hot and breaks along fold. not therefore very robust.

English is clearly not the instruction writer’s strong suit. As far as the logs going out-you made a gigantic jump in fuel size! No smaller sticks, just tinder to logs without kindling. Given the burn speed it really exacerbated the issue. Much faster burn speed.
@GY6outdoors
@GY6outdoors 5 жыл бұрын
I have gotten this wood to ignite on just the fire starter I used alone in the past, the issue wasn't the heat source, it was a fuel to air mixture problem.

the problem with something like this is it doesn't keep coals from falling out on the ground. One of the main purposes of a fire pan/fire pit is to not make a big mess on the ground and to "leave no trace". River runners for years have been required to use a fire pan with at least a 3 in. lip to keep beaches clean. Seems the general public is finally catching on and now all these overly engineered spendy items are hitting the market when all you really need is a simple steel galvanized utility pan that they sell at any hardware store. See my vids for a much better option.

Muddy or snowy weather. On stone areas where you're not allowed to start a fire. Also a way to move a fire from one area to another (under a tree for example if raining).. or closer to your friends if moving about.
