💥 Why Russo-Iranian Kamikaze Drones Can Not Pass Gepard?
The Flakpanzer Gepard, a Cold War relic designed to combat Soviet threats, now faces modern challenges. Its imposing size and firepower are matched only by its ability to devastate anything in its path. But its true strength lies in eliminating drone threats, with a single unit taking down over ten drones and intercepting missiles. Equipped with twin 35mm cannons firing at an astonishing rate and featuring advanced radar systems, the Gepard is a relentless defender and a legend reborn in the modern age.
🎬 Main characteristics:
📌 Designed during the Cold War to counter Soviet threats
📌 Powerful: known for its size, noise, and destructive capabilities
📌 Effective against drones: proven against Iranian kamikaze drones
📌 Impressive record: single unit shot down over 10 drones and intercepted 2 missiles
📌 Armed with potent twin 35mm Oerlikon KDA autocannons
📌 High rate of fire: 550 rounds per minute per cannon
📌 Carries both anti-aircraft and armor-piercing ammunition
📌 Effective range against aircraft: up to 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles)
📌 Requires minimal ammo per engagement (20-40 rounds)
📌 Powerful enough to destroy low-flying aircraft

Came here because I'm from Ukraine and this machine is working like 1 km from my apartment. When air raid starts, I can hear it roaring its engine and driving to its working position. When enemy drones are approaching, it's firing with small rounds of 3-5 shots. And it's enough to hit the drone. But the sound it produces... It is so powerful. I love hearing it. It means safety. It means that the drones are f***ed. Thanks to Germany for Gepards. Many, many, many thanks.

One of the reasons why it became obsolete wars that the german army dos not have any Leopard 1 based Systems left. In the past most armoured support systems were based on the Leo 1 Chassis. Today the Boxer has replaced most of the former Leo 1 based support Systems.

@@snowdogthewolf I learned both in school and hated the metric system and constantly converting to decimals, I struggled with it more fractions make far more sense in a practical way. 1/3 of something is far easier to mentally visualize than .33 of something. 1/8th of something is easier to mentally visualize than .125.

@SoecX

@@EvirthewarriorThat may be true for those easy fractions. But now add them together. 0.33 + 0.125 add way easier to 0.455 than 1/3 + 1/8 does to 11/24. Also if you have something like 41/369 as a fraction it's certainly not easy to imagine anymore but with decimals it is.
@solomonarbc
@solomonarbc 6 ай бұрын
@@Evirthewarrior Metric people still use fractions. So 1/3 is 1/3. However decimal is so much easier for basically any complex computation. ALSO, we have millimeters, and therefore, we can "deliberately" use 0.33 instead of 0.3(3) (which is 1/3) or even 0.3 if the project is not so sensitive on millimeters, eg. supposedly standard wooden planks are +/- 0.2 mm thicker/thinner. So in conclusion: if we need highly accurate results we use Metric, and if we make less accurate projects we also use Metric (but ignore a few millimeters or centimeters, depending on scale). And yes, one thing Imperial dudes can't do is scaling up and down, using a ruler muahaha.

Imagine you are a russian conscript, driving along with a couple of trucks in your support column, talking shit and making jokes - as one does. Then you see the first truck desintegrate in slow motion, while tracers come from a treeline 2 miles away.. A second or so later, once the sound catches up, you hear a faint "brrrrbupbupbupbupbup". You manage to say "cyka blyat", then the last truck in your column disappears. While you jump out of your truck, some shirtless Ukrainian who two years ago was writing a dating app in some starbucks in Kiew trains the Oerlikon KDA Zwillingskanonen on your vehicle. The last thing you see are a few dozend 35mm projectiles at 1100 km/s about to fuck your shit up. It's a bad day at the office.

@matovicmmilan don't be, radars could detect shells in the 60's but the trouble was to get the targeting systems good and fast enough. The video is missing one very interesting fact ... the Gepard is also able to damage any main battle tank in the world on up to 2 kilometers, not destroying the tank itself but crippling it by destroying all optics, antennas, sensors and even the chains with its 35mm grenades. The tank won´t be destroyed totally but you can probably scrap it afterwards. Also the Gepard radar is a passive one which can find its target without getting found itself. Gepard is a hell of an enemy for everything lesser armored than a mbt. Obviously the Gepard is my favourite tank ^^ and sadly far to early sorted out by german army for that new shitty mantis system.

We, four small army platoons, armed with a couple FN MAG's on stands, shooting 7.62mm NATO rounds at a target being dragged by a remote controlled airplane. Little did we know the "Pruttel" was around the corner, ready to roll up to it's shooting position right next to us... unleashing it's massive rounds towards that same flag-like target. The sheer power of those 35mm cannons is as impressive as it is frightening.

If there were more valleys or forrestes in Ukraine the Gepard would be much more dominant since choppers/aircrafts have to come closer since it effective max range is around 5km. On the other side as some commander told about manual targeting ground targets. " You do not have to aim much higher" (Those rounds go 1400m/s) With its radar it can still coordinate other air defence at 15km+ around itself.Last autuum some Gepards joined the charkiv breakthroug and took enemy drones and vision so many russians were fleeing thinking to be already surrounded, since small ukrainian forces were far in the hinterland taking pictures in front of local signs. And russian command had lost the overview. If they have gotten more logisitics and western material last year, they could have liberated much more territory.

Link its radar into something like the Supacat HMT based ASRAAM setup and helis or even jets won't get close. What we need are some sort of cheap, disposable anti-drone Drones, that can loiter above a likely target, and then drop down (like a mini-JDam) to intercept incoming drones, so that each attacking drone can be shot down for a few hundred or thousands of dollars, rather than hundreds of thousands, or even millions, in the case of some missiles.

Gepard was built as mobile AA gun systems working together with Leopard main battle tanks, use the same heavy vehicle. Other mobile systems were build at that time, using wheeled rather than tracked vehicles, less expensive but hardly bought by armed forces. Preference then was given to "fire-and-forget" systems for fighting aircrafts - missiles that turn out now to be too expensive for destroying small, relatively slow drones. Even the towed AA guns - the same as used by Gepard - could be well used in Ukraine (as for example bought by Canadian Armed Forces for defending their airports in Germany some 40 years ago from their manufacturer in Switzerland). If only the b-o-i in Swiss government and parliament would not continue to block transfer of such weapon systems to Ukraine.

It doesn't take many 35mm HE to down a drone, heh. Mainly you want to pop off a very short burst with them, that's all. It's not a machine gun.

Yes. Unfortunately no Swiss ammo since the Swiss refuse to export it to Ukraine. They claim to be 'neutral'.

As this AI generated sales brochure doesn't give any stats I have to wonder how effective it has been. i.e. The cannons are good, good rate of fire and 35mm provides a good blast radius. However, does the radar/fire corntrol work against the threats? Small drones I doubt. High speed missiles unlikely.

you can find video where lanced strike Gepard. I don't say it bad, but it not "unpenetrable"

exactly. The Russians already have the counter to this. First is greater numbers or saturation. Second is speed. They are installing micro turbines on the Geran 2.

@@jeffhedrich3551they don't have a counter, you can look up how much of the air attacks ukraine is shooting down... Gepard are just to few the be the only counter, Germany is sending a newly upgraded batch soon.
