Interior Stripped!! - Restoring a 1979 Camaro - Part 5

In this video we remove all of the remaining interior components apart from the dash.. Headliner, Rear plastics, speaker tray deck.. All Removed!! Time to prep some parts for restoration and to purchase some new replacements! Can't wait to show you guys the updates here soon!

I can't believe that steering wheel came back. Once I saw a car that had the interior done by the car restorer's wife. She knew fabric but not cars. She did the interior with patterned cloth. The headliner was white with blue paisley. The seats were blue and white checks. The car interior really popped. If you are going to just buy fabric you might want the rear deck and headliner to match. Maybe a dark green material with a faint pattern and a dark green carpet. Just a suggestion. You are the one that sits I the car looking at it so do want you want.

That interior sounds really cool that guys wife put together, I would’ve liked to see that! And you’re right, I’m going to plan on doing a black and green color combo on the interior. Factory EVERYTHING was green on this car, but I want to throw alittle color contrast at it, nothing to crazy but with the vision I have in mind, I think it’ll look great! Can you advise on easy way to remove the lower rear seats on a 1980 camro Z28?

Ots easy, all you need to do is push down and back The seat has a metal loop that locks into a "C" shaped braket so back and down. Then lift while pushing back, you should be able to fell when the loop is free. All else fails use a saws all and cut. Ypu can always weld it back in place

I really wish I would've watched this video first before cutting the metal where the rear speakers mount. Mine didn't come with speakers mounted so I assumed they went from the top down though the hole. It'll still work but I would've preferred to keep it as is. I really think that's how gm should've done it anyway lol

i have 1980 and i just bought some nice leather fabric stuff for the roof and gorilla glue prayed it on and it looks really good and stayed pretty good

That sounds nice actually.. I ended up ordering a headliner off rockauto. Gotta touch up a few more things then I’ll be ready to reinstall all the interior trim and seats! Thanks for watching!

Got the same 79 Camaro runs but the interior is rough t sya the least need new seats tryna figure out where to start with these videos 😅

The bracket that holds the spare tire is also a jack and tire iron it's a old school bumper jack is the term I'm familiar with.

@@thekehmcrew it more than likely had a space saver spare. there should be a clip on the trunk floor where a J shaped bolt would slide in to, up through the center of the spare and through the jack base to secure it with an oversized wingnut. the jacking decal sheet on the inside of the trunklid should give you an idea.

You going to add any sound deadening? even if you just do the trunk it’s makes big difference. I just bought bought a 79 Camaro I got one spot to fix on Floor. Before I replace the carpet in mine I’m gonna add sound deadening to whole thing. It’s not cheap but it’s worth it

I’m going to replace / add some new jute insulation under the back seat, and maybe throw some sound deadening in the trunk. The new carpet I bought has the mass backing on it so that should help cut down on some noise also. It was $50 more than the normal carpet. I’m excited to start throwing in the new interior parts. Got alittle more work to do first! Thanks for watching!

Glad you’re enjoying the series so far! I might throw the z28 spoiler on it. Not sure if I’ll go for a full z28 build. May eventually throw a bigger motor in it if I decide to keep it long term. I actually just used some left over ‘awesome orange cleaner / degreaser’ spray that I had from dollar tree 😂 I was surprised it worked as well as it did.. it’s not 100% clean but it’s way better than it was.. I’ll get it perfect once I take it out of the car and can clean it better! Thanks for watching!
