As a native of North Jersey, Trenton is located in the fictional realm of "Central Jersey". Trenton is thus its own liminal space that only exists to make the North and South fight over who has to include it on their map. I can also confirm that the Backrooms exist in this nonexistent area of the state - It's where all the tax money disappears from reality. I wonder if anyone's confirmed the movies at the cinema are complete or if only a short part actually plays. Fallout 4 has a mod (Videos of the Wasteland) that allows you to play movies on the TV or even at the drive-in. Among the videos available in their entirety are such classics as Night of the Living Dead, Teenagers from Outer Space, and three collections of Betty Boop cartoons. Considering there are three aliens hiding in each level (and one creature), I almost get the impression we were abducted and are actually in a place created by the aliens to try and understand humanity (which is VERY Backrooms). The creature we keep seeing may be another human who's been trapped here and simply went feral/insane trying to escape.

I loved the first entry of this series. This game drips with atmosphere, and reminds me of driving around San Diego at 2 a.m. because I was on midwatches and breaking that sleep schedule on a few days off is a bad idea. I'd look up geocaches that were in public, well lit areas and go find them. Some weren't as public or as well lit as advertised, but I always had fun in that disorienting way a night drive in an unfamiliar neighborhood would be!

This has me thinking how cool it could be to encounter a "liminal explorer" type character in a more traditional horror game. Someone disconnected from the main plot, oblivious of and seemingly immune to whatever forces are threatening the player character. The closest example I can think of is Laura from Silent Hill 2 You'd periodically run into them taking pictures of streets, empty storefronts, ect. They might acknowledge the strangeness of everything being deserted but otherwise they're completely calm and in their element, geeking out over the creepy atmosphere They don't know whats going on and can't see the monsters, can't tell you anything useful, but this is the only other living person in the whole game, and they're still a nice reassuring human presence in the middle of a sea of madness. Then toward the end of the game, you're approaching a room at the end of a long corridor. You see a bright flash and a familiar shutter sound from inside. The photographer is here, neat! You get closer, the flashers get faster and faster. As you reach the doorway, there's a final blinding flash and a scream. You enter and the room is empty, except for a smashed camera laying in the middle of the floor. Their luck has run out, and your only companion has been taken by some mysterious threat .

After watching your first entry of this series I immediately bought this game and Umurangi Generation as suggested by one of my replies. I started playing Interior Worlds and I love it. The first level alone madr me excited for it. I really enjoy this type of game. I remember that when I was a kid and I played GTA San Andreas on my PS2 I would take the camera and just take pictures of things I liked or were good looking. It was such an awesome thing to do. I would love to see more games that are focused on photography on the future. Something like INFRA where you go urban exploring and take pictures but without it being your job. You're just there for the pictures and nothing more. You can even throw some horror elements like Morko on it to make it spooky but not turn it into a horror game.
