I have seen the Croyden ones. Part of that was due to embankment strengthening causing a width restriction in the Morden area. Which I think is the bit shown here.

In the USA interlaced track is called gauntlet track. We have a few places in the Chicago region that used this. One unfortunately resulted in a spectacular wreck that killed several people.

Thats right. In fact several different locations are shown where the track is interlaced like this. simon

Interesting in the first shot how its not actually a point but 2 rails overlapping

Augsburger Straße (Strasse) close to the Keinbachstraße (Keinbachstrasse / Keinbachstr.) stop on what is now standard gauge Stadtbahn (light rail) line number U13. The light rail has to share a space constricted right of way under several bridges with both the heavy rail and a roadway. Hope this helps, Simon

Thanks. On Wikipedia Commons I've seen a photograph of interlaced track through a narrow road and arch at Malá Strana, Prague. I'm going to add this to my website, as an excellent example of interlaced track. Simon

Reading about, vs seeing is a lot easier! Thanks. I take it where different rails cross, the wheel go bang bang for the space?

probably I do - I still have many videotapes which need to be digitised - this includes some footage in Stuttgart. I also have some super 8 film from before 1990 which I have never even joined up into long film. Unless I find a new job I plan to digitise a lot more videotapes during the Olympic games when I will not be out with my camera very much.

Further to my other comment, I'd like to thank you for this information. I cannot alter the video as youtube do not allow this, but I am altering the video name and other information to include the word 'gauntlet'. Simon

Does anyone know any examples where the single track section is at the stop, so only one platform is needed? I've seen it done in underground metro systems, but am looking for tram examples.
@CitytransportInfoplus Жыл бұрын
I can think of a few single track tram stops... Birkbeck and Elmers End on the Croydon (South London) Tramlink system. But these stops are on routes also served by trains. Some tram stops on the Sheffield Supertram and Blackpool - Fleetwood* tramway only have one platform but these are at the route terminus. *) especially outside the North Euston Hotel in Fleetwood, I'm not 100% sure about Starr Gate terminus Linkenheim - to the north of Karlsruhe, Germany (in a village, bi-directional) Bretten Stadtmitte (plus other stops) on the Karlsruhe tram-train route to Bretten Hope this helps!

@@CitytransportInfoplus Thanks for that. The Linkenheim example is a good one... 1.2km of single track through the town centre, with several stops along it where the platforms serve both directions of travel.

Now Budapest has one piece of interlaced track too!
@CitytransportInfoplus15 жыл бұрын
oh dear - but was it the fault of the track which caused this? or something else which just happened to be at this specific location?
@CitytransportInfoplus12 жыл бұрын
LOL! The only snag is that with each videotape producing about 10GB of computer data I may need to buy a new hard drive (or two) to store the digitised footage! Ideally I should have at least two copies of everything, if not three. Already my 3TB hard drive is over 50% full.

what is the use/purpose of gauntlet track?
@CitytransportInfoplus4 жыл бұрын
to allow multiple tracks to pass through space constricted location without any point / switches, as it avoids the cost of the points and track maintenance.
