I've been intermittent fasting, like you, for years. I also do five day water fasts, inspired by Walter Longo, two or three times/year. But fasting is not going to stop you getting sick from Covid. Especially if you are taking no precautions. I caught Omicron in January. It was a walk in the park, in the acute phase. But in the long-term, my risk may well have raised, for many of the conditions, that I fast to avoid. E.g. CVD, and neuro-degeneration. The same would be for you - even more so, as you in an older age bracket, than I am. Look at Dr Been's lecture on brain effects in mild infections, which, are increasingly looking like they are not mild at all.

@@christinecortese9973 there is a French vaccine that just got approval in the UK. Might be heading your way. Can't recall the name of it, but I am sure it is attenuated. Would you not consider/can't you get Novavax? Being unvaccinated is a highly risky strategy unless you are able to keep to strict isolation. Omicron is mild in comparison to previous variants but still somewhat dangerous. Some people are even deliberately catching it, believing it is no different than a cold, which to me, is bonkers.

Did you know people lived healthier & longer in the USA during the great depression by eating simple foods like legumes & other proteins based foods more vegetables with less meat, bread & sugar. After the recession people indulged on meat, bread, sugar & increase of salts people health started deteriorating, just look at USA current obesity issue. Luckily I was bought up right by my parents they always provided a cooked meals no takeout only on a rear occasions & thought to eat in moderation is key.

Writing my obituary one morn at 3am, I was desperate enough to try a 7 day fast. Fasting was the start of healing. It was so great to hear this topic today. @@nickarrizza Ah, the old anti-meat talking points, I see. Let me dismantle them. Yes, protein does stimulate IGF-1 and mTOR pathways, but only briefly. This stimulation promotes muscle growth and maintenence, and muscle is one of the best predictors of overall health and longevity. Thus, as with many other compounds in the human body, too much or too little IGF-1 and mTOR activation is a bad thing. Do you know what is a potent stmulator of IFG-1 and mTOR, besides protein? Insulin. And how do you get chronically elevated insulin levels, i.e. insulin resistance? Carbs and oxidized seed oils. On the other hand, fasting and ketogenic diets, inhibit IGF-1 and mTOR. So a combination of a meat-based low carb/keto diet and restricted eating results in a balanced IGF-1 and mTOR status. Red meat and TMAO is yet another baseless concern thrown at red meat. There is no good evidence that red meat intake consistently leads to higher TMAO-levels on humans - partly because the gut microbiome is a mediator of this effect - and even if it did, there is only weak epidemiological studies to support a relationship between high TMAO levels and cancer or heart disease. As for the overall claim that red meat causes cancer or heart disease or increases overall mortality, those claims are, again, baseless, because they are based on epidemiological studies rife with bias from food frequency questionnaires and healthy users. Red meat is associated with good health in Asia, but bad health in Western countries for exactly this reason. In any case, ketogenic diets, which typically includes a lot of (red) meat generally result in improvements in biomarkers related to good health, such as low CRP, high insulin-sensitivity, high HDL, low trigs, low BP etc. The only exception is an increase in LDL-cholesterol in a subset of people. Ketogenic diets are even used therapeutically in cancer patients.

I started somewhat by necessity years ago when I had IBS and had to travel often. Would sometimes go 3-5 days with no food at all. Always felt like a big reset was accomplished afterwards. Just be careful if going this long as after you pass through the hunger phase you seem to gain a mental clarity but physically you may feel quite a bit weaker. Also be careful not to gorge when you reintroduce food.

Dr. Bruce Patterson’s research indicates that long hauler’s syndrome from either Covid-19 infection or from vaccine involves endothelial inflammation caused by long-lived monocytes presenting S1 spike protein. Assuming a blood test looking at 14 cytokines and chemokines indicates such a cause of the long hauler and vasculitic symptoms, Dr. Patterson’s normal recommended treatments of Maraviroc and prevastatin could be supplemented with intermittent fasting as a way to more quickly get rid of the spike-presenting monocytes. From Dr. Been’s early lecture comments, the fasting needs to continue long enough to exhaust normal sources of glucose to induce the autophagocytosis needed for the health benefit, perhaps three days. After consultation with your doctor of course. (Assuming you can find a doctor familiar with these concepts or willing to study and learn of them.)

Autophagy is great, but there is a host of different types of “phagy” going on after about 3 days. NASA scientist August Dunning wrote a book on fasting titled _The Phoenix Protocol_ with plenty of relevant citations. The new stem cells created also release exosomes which deliver repair instructions to existing cells. During lockdown I began to think that fasting would be a great topic for a Dr. Been video for low cost method of healing at home.

@@Hopeful1s It's extremely fun. You'll never feel better. However, the process of activating your dormant alternative energy system is a process. I highly recommend an extended keto diet, then reduce eating windows, before fasting . The typical westerner has never gone without food for 24 hours. Which is ridiculous but true. So you have to build the machinery, the mitochondria, to fast. But once you recover the natural human state, having metabolic flexibility, fasted becomes the default state. Being able to switch between food and stored food, fat, seamlessly, changes you on a primordial level. Food becomes a utility rather than neccesity. I simply choose to eat , rather than being compelled to eat. And I function far better on ketones. Particularly mentally . In any case, once you awaken your metabolic machinery, fasted is your better place. And it is fun.

@@555Trout this is a very important remark. Fasting will be MUCH easier to accomplish on a diet rich in fats. Proteins come second. I always recommend to people looking to change their ways to start 'The Last Meal' with a big salad, then the proteins (like meat, eggs, seeds) with butter and/or oil, then vegetables and to finish with some really fat cheese and cod liver oil. Trick is to keep the body from high blood sugar, which will keep it from giving you that hunger feeling for longer periods. And the just keep extending the window.

I wasn't sure if you mentioned, Dr. Been, that 3 days of water fasting seems to provide the best benefit. After that, the benefit remains but not so much. For those who don't want to see a doctor for the 3 day water fast, which is understandable, you might exlore the timed eating form of intermittent fasting, which has similar benefits -- such as beneficial autophagy, but more gradual results. The idea is to only consume food and drink during a 6 to 11 hour time window per day, whatever works for you. The rest of the time is water only. 6 hours is best, some even do 2 or 4 hours. (11 hours of eating window not nearly as useful but still some mild benefits. ) That means only water during the rest of the time. Dr. Rhonda Patrick, in her research in intermittent fasting, teaches that even tea kicks in the liver response, so it can interfere with the expected results of the fast during the 'non eating' period. for my eating window, which I "try" to meet, I like noon to 6pm, and yes you can cheat once a week without harm. Many prefer the later window of 3 to 9pm but I find these people tend to cheat with a lot of coffee and butter in the morning which seems to me, according to literature, make it not work so well (though still providing the benefits of no sugar surges during that time). Also if I eat after about 6pm I cannot sleep! I felt the OCD need to share this info for those willing to give this a try. you won't regret it, you'll feel wonderful.

well done sir , i think a Nobel prize was presented to a Japanese scientist for his work in understanding autophagy around 2016 , this idea is promoted by dr Jason fung and molecular biologist dr Rhonda Patrick and many more, you explained the benifits well i am 52 yrs old and have been purposefully doing it since 2017 and have seen my memory improve substantially also my ability to handle the mental stressors of my work. I also used it for the issues presented from 2019 Dec till present which the world is still struggling with The other benefits which are common knowledge in this field are increased HgH, Testosterone, mental clarity weight loss etc, the human body is amazing.

I Agree 100% I have been fasting for at least 24 hrs. for the last 15 or so years! Not for health reasons, but I have been putting roofs on house's in Florida since 2005. I could not bring myself to eat when it's 95 outside, got nauseous all the time!.it literally took me at least an hour to cool my body off before I could actually eat. But I am glad I stumbled on this knowledge naturally, I listen to what my body has been telling me.it's usually dead on right.(I still weight only 138lbs).same weight I wrestled at in high school.

I fasted for 30 days in 1980 to deal with rheumatoid arthritis. I was taking 16 aspirin and 5 mg of prednisone per day before the fast; no meds after the fast for 4 years (until I slipped on the strict vegetarian diet recommended by the doctor who supervised the fast, and went back on small amounts of ibuprofen). I have fasted intermittently since and haven't taken any pain meds in the past few years.

I was intermittent fasting since January 2022, my long Covid flare ups got worse, I also read that you need to be careful because doing it wrong could negatively impact your heart. After numerous episodes that put me into the ER, and being told I’m ok in the ER, I started to think it was autophagy causing the flares, regardless, the inflammation and difficulty breathing was unbearable. I decided to slowly going back to my old diet. Keto and intermittent fasting helped me lose 50lbs but didn’t help my symptoms.

In my semi-retirement at age 61 I have got used to 6 "meals every day. Breakfast at 7 a.m. lots of thick fruit juice at 10.30, big lunch at 12.30, coffee and snack at 5 p.m. tea at 7 p.m. and yoghurt nus and dried fruit at 10 pm. A small window of 9 hours without eating. I am on my 5th day of intermittent fasting with an 18 hour window without food. I am realising that I don't really get hungry. I just like eating and it has also become a routine. Not sure how long I will keep it up. But I hear so much positive information about it. I am fairly thin, but do have a rather noticeable bulge around my stomach. (Maybe that is why I don't get hungry!)

It's interesting that I felt prompted to start doing a 3 day fast(from food) for new years since... 2018? Usually it's a time to focus on what I can do for others, and change in my life, and this year I felt to take the first 3 days of each month off of food(still drink lots of water); it's always hard the first 24 hours, since I make all the food for my family, but the last 2 days are much easier since my body switches off the hunger urges when I move into Ketosis(at least somewhat, as long as I don't just sit look at food, you'd be surprised how much of your day is just eating and looking at people eat). I thought about this process clearing and cleansing of cells that were damaged during SAR-Cov-2, when I listened to your lecture on the study about defective/damaged blood cells.

There is an old saying I grew up with in the UK IS FEED A COLD AND STARVE A FEVER, SOUNDS LIKE OBSERVATION OVER CENTURIES IS JUST BEING SEEN IN SCIENCE, great wisdom and knowledge has been passed down in all cultures, pity they burned and drowned so many of the wise healers in Europe centuries ago and then modern medicine had another go at them in the last century.

This seems to align with the old adage, "feed a cold but starve a fever". Also, I guess it's a reach, but what if people went into Spring with lean stores of food during historical evolution. Which would coincide with Spring allergy season. So, in this (rough) theory. The body would be down-grading over-reactions via fasting at the time when it might most be beneficial to do so.

I would go one step further. Many Vitamins, especially Vitamin D, are fat soluble. They get stored in fat. I was thinking, maybe that was the way our bodies evolved to stay healthy during times when Vitamin D production is low (no or hardly any Sun in Winter) and food availability is scarce: it would mean losing fat in the winter by fasting/starving and building up fat in times when the sun and (hence also) food is abundant, to cycle again in the Fall and Winter. Makes sense to me

It's been such a very fascinating presentation. Being an Ayurveda Doctor, it's been great to evaluate studies on modern medicine which throws light on scientific explanation to certain treatment principles in Ayurveda. The whole process is explained using entirely different sanskrit terms in treatment of Pyrexia ('Jwara' to be exact indicating infectious pathologies). The primary treatment in initial stage of pyrexia is fasting("Langhana") till first 7 days of fever. During this period, it is mentioned not to give medicines. And if fever persists even after fasting phase, then medicines are advised. Those herbal and herbomineral Ayurveda formulations with antimicrobial properties are then advised. And the permutations and combinations of these formulations are also beautifully patterned according to the various types of response from body to the pathogen. As you said , really enjoyed this session. I love your artworks and looking forward for more.

I water fasted for 4 days at the start of the pandemic. I was actually trying to raise my platelet levels (I am marginally low). They did go up after the fast along with hemoglobin (which was on the lower side of normal). Unfortunately the gains were only a few months. Valter Longo (the USC researcher pictured in the video) in his research showed that extended fasting improves the "blood profile."

Thanks to another of your videos, I have been IF for about 6 weeks. I'm at my target weight, haven't felt hungry, and have felt increasingly clearer and healthier. I didn't do this as weight loss, but to recover from vaccine "side effect". I sill have inflammation, and am hoping to get rid of that over time. I had already been eating low carb/no sugar for weight loss, so that made it easier. I think the next challenge is how to stop losing weight and continue IF.

I’m not sure what made your videos pop up on my recommendations for KZbin, as I was convinced the doctors with any hint of you all straying away from mainstream media’s narrative was wiped from the internet. I’m glad you broke this down so thoroughly. My favorite part of this presentation is when you mentioned that sometimes, viruses (or their fragments) do not show on the surface of the cell, and that the self-consuming mechanism would eventually allow that cell to show it up. Very great. What a wonderful time to see this at the cellular level! The one time real modern medical advancements within science catches up to The Almighty 😂

As well as an antihistamine/anxiety medication called Vistaril which I believe helped as an antihistamine and to calm my central nervous system. I did a three day fast instead of intermittent fasting to ensure bad cells would die and do the presenting you talked about. I hope people spread the word about this to anybody they know with Long Covid. I think I probably got rid of a lot of autoantibodies or something. My inflammation seems greatly reduced.
