Dr. Ana Maria Cuervo, MD, Ph.D
Macroautophagy starts within 30 minutes to an hour of starvation.
When do we starve?
In the intermittent fasting of 8-16. The macroautophagy starts within 8 hours if there are no snacks.
The chaperon mediated autophagy occurs during the 16 hours.
If you keep the 16 hours window including the sleep then the neurons are able to perform autophagy as well.

I was experiencing brain fog after COVID. I started a keto diet and intermittent fasting and it fixed the brain fog. If I eat carbs again the brain fog comes back.
@dede4004

It's quite possible that the brain fog might not be coming from the covid. (Completely) The globalists have announced that they have been taking the nutrition OUT of our foods for several years now. They've engineered the crops in certain ways, changed the ingredients in ALL our foods, and taken out all necessary vitamins and minerals needed for our nutritional health. (And they're PROUD of this ) This got worse just the past couple years, in the foods with glucose, starches and sugars. Brain fog is the number one symptom of reacting to it, amongst many others. They have devised many different ways, all combined to kill us off in numerous ways, but not to raise "suspicions" of the people. It's really nefarious. THIS is what the mega rich come up with in the meetings in Davos, Bohemian Grove and Tavistock. (OUR demise, and their "take over" of the world". It sounds like a bad cartoon or comic villain, but it's genuine, believe it or not. Start searching into the "nutrition being removed from foods". Gates, the World Economic Forum with Klaus Schwab are the ones in charge of this. They have several videos on YT talking about this. And, their main goal is YES, to get rid of people. The vax, viruses, foods, water, medical over treatment, or under treatment, are some of the ways. But, it's all happening at once. Check it out, I think you'll find it enlightening.

We’ll be careful your body will convert to what you feed it, so cut carbs is long term bad for health since you will not have microbs to break it down. I’m a nutritionist/dietician and I can tell you 65% carbs is the most effective/efficient for the mitochondria of our cells. The fix is resistance training so your body uses the carbs properly and converts it to muscle. Every decade= 6% body fat gain from lean muscle so you can see where I’m going with this. You get your carbs from veggies one fruit a day and whole grains such as sprouted oats.

@@tommyortiz6623 I don't do the strict keto diet that's nothing but fats and protein. I consume a wide range of vegetables with emphasis on cruciferous vegetables. My primary source of protein comes from grass fed finished beef, wild game and eggs. I take my microbiome very seriously and make my own home made sauerkraut from red cabbage. I'm 43 years old and in excellent shape. I bench press well over my body weight, squat 1.5 times my body weight and dead lift double my body weight. I can also run a sub 7 minute mile.

Ernestine, Janet is right --you just have to get your mind set back but that's a little tricky. I will also say , because I forgot it during this made up crisis: DO NOT LET anyone tell you WHAT TO DO with your body, no matter what they indicate their intentions are!😤 I do not think that a lot of people who drank the Kool-Aid and took the vax-- letting people tell them what to do with their bodies- had MY initial reaction which was: NO way will they be able to create a vaccine that prevents infection and NO way can they do it rapidly. THAT was MY immediate thought-- without thinking and without knowing anything --but unfortunately I forgot MY GUT reaction . THE stomach is the bigger brain than the brain in our head tho its called the SECOND brain & SHOULD be called the FIRST brain, as it has more neurons than our mind & knows before our mind has pulled on its shoes👞👡👠 to start the🌅 day. I drank the Kool-Aid and I'm still having side effects from the vax, unlike my 2 brief, 12 hr encounters with the virus!😵 I do feel permanent damage does occur to the brain n the ❤ and even if I do NOT have the neurological symptoms that Sean has on this podcast or the cardiological symptoms that Kyle Warner has on doctor John Campbell's site, there are problems with my ❤ & i feel my brain's not as quick or acute as it was . I envy that you fell upon that one meal a day routine and your body was happy and I do pray you can return to that🙏 Use the second brain-- the mind-- now that Dr been has explained what your first brain-- the tummy🤗-- told u to do a while ago. GOOD LUCK🍀🍀🍀🌈

If autophagy peeks at 48 hours, then what happens during extended water fasting? Short term "starvation" will enable cells to dump their waste (intra-cellular action), but we know that longer term starvation can break down things like arterial plaques and also "remodel" damaged tissues (extra-cellular action). It would be great to get the whole spectrum of what mechanisms are active over these various "phases" of "starvation."

You hit ketosis at 12h, human growth hormone starts to kick in at 15. Autophagy starts at 24 and reaches it's max at 36h. Growth hormone increases by 5x at 48, insulin is at it's lowest at 54h and at 72h your stem cells start activate. I got these numbers from Dr. Longo a couple of years ago.

Doctor Been such wonderful information. For someone to integrate autophagy into their lifestyle you must understand the mechanisms of satiety, the state of being full, and prolonging that feeling. Current FDA guidelines on diet is calories in calories out model, whereas a better understanding would be the hormonal control of hunger and what to eat to prolong satiety without being hungry. The current MyPlate guidelines on meals eating will cause someone to fail on trying to practice autophagy. Hunger always wins. Hormones like leptin, grilling PYY, insulin and others are more controlled by eating a higher fat and lower carb diet. This would be a great follow-up lecture to this one you just gave.

Thank you so much Dr been for this detailed clarification of intermittent fasting. AT first when I began it, when you first talked about this 4 months ago, my body immediately was happy and went into the mode of eating at noon and then not wanting anything until about 7. I did not know that I was not allowed to actually eat in between the first meal and the last meal but that was what my body wanted initially. MY body begin to shift after a couple months and I no longer felt simply the lack of desire to eat. SO I would take a sip of pineapple juice which I believe aids digestion and sometimes some fruit, although I actually never ate a proper meal in between the first and the last meal of the day. Of course the devil is in the details and now I know I better not sip or eat in between. OF course during the 16 hours stretch of no food I did sleep. I'm wondering how long one should sleep and maybe you will get to that but I'm guessing it's the usual amount of 7 to 8 hours. THIS is my last stop in trying to get rid of the continuing Cascade of side effects from the vaccine which began about 2 months after the vaccine. I've gone through a series of side effects for 15 months & the last one now is my skin is breaking out. Initially about 4 months ago I had a series of four times when my body would turn red and heat up REALLY hot and the fourth time it was as if it was burning and I almost fainted. I thought --Boy, I hope this doesn't carry on. I was at home so that was good. I read later that other people have had this side effect so I did not feel as scared from what might happen if it carried on & worsened. Instead it switched to a second skin side effect which Sean has talked about: I felt like I was being bitten by ants or some type of teeny creature and yet when I looked, there was nothing biting me. Recently that stopped and now I'm having the third skin side effect which I can only attribute to the Vax due to this series of things occurring to me. IT is a skin breakout. FIRST on my throat little bumps that had no color to them; then on my upper chest by my collarbone-- little bumps that had no color; and then a breakout of red bumps on my right side where my shoulder was and the collarbone and then it expanded to the left side so now my whole upper part of my body is covered with little bumps and they are visible especially on my left side of my shoulder and collarbone AND here I'm going to Florida🌊🏖🌦☔ for vacation! I know I'm saying-- Cry for me, NOT don't cry for me Argentina-- but because of monkey🐵 pox, I worry people will think I have 🐒 pox which can begin as a rash! 😳 IT'S been a month and definitely is NOT 🐵pox so I'm hoping that people won't look🙈 very closely & it will start to fade & if I go to the ocean every day and immerse myself for at least 1 hour in the salt water🌊 it will finally start to heal. I truly feel this is the third stage of the skin's reaction to the Vax & the body's way of detoxing. BY chance, I came across a place in County Sligo, Ireland where you can get seaweed baths that drain your body of ALL toxins in a very gentle but aggressive manner. I am thinking of going there if I can't heal my skin problem and am unable to detox on my own. It will be very pricey but i truly want this poison out of me!!😫😤😵 I do think the fasting helps but having heard the first part now of your talk, I think I NEED to do what I was instinctively wanting to do 4 months ago which is to increase it to 24 hours and then 48 hours. I will say tho that my body-- unlike at the beginning of my intermittant fasting several months ago-- does not REALLY want me to go without food so long so it will be a little tricky. I have taken the opportunity to write here on more than just fasting because I'm hoping someone else who has had the skin condition or knows of someone who does, can say-- DON'T worry, this too will pass and it is your body reacting to the Vax and trying to get the toxins that it created out of your body and this is the last step! I live in Texas and all summer it was 107° F and my AC was not working so I would be sweating in a 95° F home and then when I went outside it was 107°F and with great humidity. SO at first I blamed my break out on the extreme heat this summer and then later I figured it was both the vax and the heat but now that it's cooled off, I think it's just the vaccine side effect. SO m👼y blessed cool beens, if anyone knows of something similar, do tell. 🤗THX. AND of course I thank our dear Dr Been for all the work he does and the fact that he actually cares about people who are trying to heal.🙏🌠

Your comments regarding the possibility for cells, responsible for immune response, to be cleaned out while cancer cells may thrive as a consequence, is very interesting. Are there any studies which lead you towards that possibility? I would like to kill off the bad guys but not the good guys! Each and every one of these concepts are explained in great detail in Ayurveda, but to keep everything simple for common man, the rishis who taught Ayurveda figured out a way to incorporate these into our daily lifestyle in the form of "religious practices". The western doctors label Ayurveda as "alternative medicine" and yet, they take great pride in repeating all the Ayurveda teachings in English and take all the credit.

I am in great health no prescription still run on weekdays inside a gym where I sub ( retired biology teacher). I also do light weight upper body. Never had acetone phenomena but registering two above ketones common on feeding days and upto 5 on Fasting.

I have been eating one meal a day for 3 years, occasionally I have a pie in the afternoon, otherwise no sugar, little fruit a ton of vegetables, pickles, eggs, beans, fish and wheat. That is what my body seems to love. I have no hunger; blood sugar seems to stay stable for 24 hours. I am 66 never been so healthy! So, the scientists just found this out, it has been known in the traditional health fields for hundreds of years. But I guess most of them were burnt at the stake.

Intermittent fasting, to renew and refresh the mitochondria, (I hear). Their are two supplements I've found that are supposed to renew and refresh the mitochondria, methylene blue was one. I forgot the other, berberine maybe. Or maybe D-Ribose. ALA (alpha lipoic acid) as well.

I have done the 16/8 and my doctor was soooo excited about the results. Also during this time when I did start eating I got diarrhea, have you heard of this? It was like when I ate maybe the insulin output was too great to digest the food.

Do cancer cells feed on ketones? Previous studies indicate that unlike healthy tissues, cancer cells are unable to effectively use ketone bodies for energy. Furthermore, ketones inhibit the proliferation and viability of cultured tumor cells. I am a avid follower of your presentations and thank you for your work. However I felt very strongly that your comment regarding my statement above needs your investigation. However I realize your agreement with the statement could be very harmful to you relative to the big Pharma regime see Dr Burzynski Cancer Clinic. Bottom line cancer cells need glucose but cannot survive on ketones. Fasting is a successful therapy. Thank you again for your work

I have been taking 20 mg of lutein and usually it comes with a bit of xanthian and I truly believe this has helped. I began that routine about 20 years ago because at a food fair I met a young man who had really good eyes but they had started to give him some problems and he began doing that and he had no problems and needed no glasses. I wear glasses but I truly feel those supplements-- it's actually One supplement-- help maintain the current health of my eyes. MORE recently-- in the last 5 years-- I've met people who actually said their doctor recommended lutein and I was quite impressed since doctors know nothing about nutrition-- the exception of course of our leader of the cool beans Dr Bean. It used to be very cheap at the drugstore but now is a little pricier. I think it's because people have caught on during this 20 years, especially if their doctor recommends it, but I still think it's worth it. GOOD LUCK🍀🍀🌈🍀🍀

I have two questions/comments: 1. During autophagy when metabolizing fat, does the brain not need/prefer glucose, so is some fatty acid converted to glucose? 2. I have read a number of anecdotal accounts of how fasting cured or promoted healing from advanced cancer, but Dr. Been said fasting is contraindicated for cancer due to wiping out immune cells that were fighting cancer allowing it to proliferate.

@@jerryhenderson8923 I had read years ago that the brain required glucose whereas the heart's preferred fuel is fatty acid. So I was wondering how low does glucose go during fasting. If it goes to zero, then it seems it would be an effective way to fight cancer since cancer only uses glycolysis.

@@allencooke6794 I remember hearing a phD doc woman lecturing... only wish I could remember her name... on how some cancers CAN change substrate and for eg use ketones or other energy sources, lactic acid for eg... so I gathered she was being moderate about recommending fasting/ low carb/ keto. Although they commonly gobble sugar. also learnt (elsewhere) that the brain's favoured fuel is actually fat... the fact we started eating animals created our big human brains, and that it wasn't even now thought to be the protein but the fat. when ppl hav alzheimers there was research on it being insulin resistance in the brain so they had high hopes for ketone (self production, or mct like from coconut oil or the exogenous ketone salts)... and it helped, but only in about 50% of cases. seemed when the brain couldn't use sugar any more the energy from mct or ketones could provide an alternative useable energy source, but in fewer % than they'd initially hoped..

I dont think we recycle every protein in our body every 3 months, that doesn't sound right. It's almost true for red blood cells, but not at all true for hair cells for instance. And that would probably invalidate every stable isotope analysis of collagen.

Dr Been is showing some weakness in his knowledge here. Autophagy from fasting has been studied for a long time and there are folks who practically base their careers on it. Autophagy in animals, especially animals with much faster metabolic cycles than humans (consider how many heartbeats a mouse/rat has). It may be quite a bit longer in humans to trigger autophagy. You might not even be in ketosis within 48 hours of fasting. By all means, if you're interested in this stuff for your health, go looking for more information and use this as a starting point, but don't just dive into 48 hour fasts (most people will struggle with that anyway) and don't necessarily assume you'll get the benefits discussed in animal models/studies within the same fasting window.
