the wastegate gas flows through the exhaust system instead of just going through a small unrestricted pipe (external)

If I have a 14psi wastegate spring, the exhust gasses will open the wastegate at 14psi. When you let off the throttle it closes again. Hense why when the wastegate is closed the car is quiet in an external gate application

Wastegate also prevents you from making more and more boost as the RPM’s go up to the point u blow the turbo or the engine.

If there was no wastegate on a turbo, the turbo would end up spinning wayyyy too fast. The reason there is wastegates on turbos is to save the turbo or engine from blowing up.

Basically a valve or flap that opens when a certain pressure has been reached allowing that excess air to be relieved outside the engine, preventing overboost and potentially blowing your motor.

how much roughly did you spend on the build and also did you do a lot of the work yourself?

Bout 40 so far, I did the cleaning of head, installed valve stem seals. Did valve springs. Didn't touch front end or paint or box. Did kit and all suspension myself. Didn't do any fab work myself Did a bit here and there on the motor.
