International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024 (3 Dec)

To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024, the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Achim Steiner outlines how UNDP is helping to ensure that persons with disabilities can be true architects in creating a more inclusive, just, and sustainable future for all.

In Indonesia, having noticed a controversy that had arose over the old name of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (seemingly not isolated to Indonesia). After my finding a solution and duly formally requesting the Supreme Council of Humanity if we may update the name and recognise such, we received agreement and support for a more inclusive wording by the Supreme Council Secretary General. Thus settling the controversy. Now, The inaugural Supranational Day of Differently Abled Persons event will be hosted in Jakarta by the International Action Art Department of Indonesia, endorsed by The World Philosophical Forum. This event signifies evolutionary progress in understanding towards inclusion and empowerment, highlighting art and philosophy showing the way. We hope that this serves as a model for the UN and future World Day celebrations on December 3rd.
