International HX 520 Review: A Jack Of All Trades, Master Of None!

One thing I've noticed while playing with it: it's got a pretty poor turning circle considering its a rather small truck

I've tested several fast american trucks on the long asphalt road from Drowned lands to Zimnegorsk and this was found to be the best of them in terms of speed, stability and maneuverability. So I made it my main highway/light offroad truck with bed+crane+trailer combo, and it never disappointed me. This is my new Fleetstar. I was always looking for a truck that can beat the Fleetstar in terms of S+ power-to-weight rating and having the bed-crane-trailer combo. And there were none... until they added this. Very good all-around workhorse, but too damn expensive (over 200k fully upgraded).

One interesting thing about this truck, it's one of very few trucks that can have the towing platforms with small crane, making putting broken down (un-enterable) trucks on the platform much easier

Firstly, some of your high-speed driving is truly impressive. I just don't have that kind of skill. Nice review - thanks. I really love the look of this truck and really would like to add it to my fleet, however I just can't afford it. I only play hard mode with region specific trucks and I can't justify the price. The best hard-mode American truck all things considered is the the Paystar 5070 (1/3 the price). Cheap, versatile, has reasonable fuel economy if you drive it properly, unlocks very early and..... has mud tyres! I also keep stock suspension and its not tippy. It's my unsung hard-mode hero. That said, I'd really like an HX520.......just need $$.

Peter, thanks man! I didn’t think I was that good at driving, but I do have a trick that helps, if your playing on controller (which I am) set the mode from Controller to Steering wheel. This will recenter the wheel after you let go of inputs. Oh man the 5070 is a boss! One of my all time favorites in the game. I honestly could complete the whole game with a fleet of 5070s. It has all the features we need on an American truck, especially tires! Also more to come sir!

as an added note ive noticed if you put The HX side by side with the 4964 it rides just as high as it with raised suspension

Very good point. They do have very similar clearances which is good, but also the 4964 has better clearance where it’s fuel tanks are. The 520 has those low hanging tanks and side saddles.

The best way to test a truck is with heavy loads,i tried to take long logs from Black River to Smithville and then deliver to Island Lake,i have Diff lock,AWD and better engine and tires. This truck carried long logs through sharp stones in a river,mud,dirt and unreliable wood bridges. I tried to do the same with CAT CT681 and it seems to have less power. I think the best trucks for long logs are Azov 73210 and Pacific P16. HX 520 is a good alternative to Pacific P16 for long logs specialty because it is smaller and has better handling.

I would like to say that in the new phase 7 racing theme you will do very well. You practically rally race these these trucks around these maps during your reviews anyway. 😂 As far as the HX520 goes, where I live the most common uses for this vehicle are (milk tanker, dump truck, and some logging). I am a very stubborn individual so I watch your reviews closely and I try to use the trucks that have the most downsides just to prove a point. So naturally the HX520 is my new favorite go to LOL. As a side note, you would figure that at this stage of the game the devs would just unlock all the tires for all the trucks, seriously!!! Great video looking forward to the next one. 🤘😬🤘

I like the GMC Brigadier a lot more over it, has better fuel consumption esp with the high range. seems more stable too and has really good ground clearance. Sad it can't carry any medium logs.

The GMC is a boss, don’t get me wrong, but for consumption, I don’t think I can agree. Especially when I’ve tested both of these and also the burn values based off the off-road and high range gearboxes. The clearance the brigadier has makes it far more appealing and indeed is a better truck in my opinion, but it does burn more fuel with a lesser powered engine. I guess I think about it like this, as a player you gotta think about what you’re willing to trade ya know. That’s the really cool thing about the game. Trucks are unique and can be used to benefit a play style. :)

Nice truck. Dunno if you’re planning on doing it, but I’d love to see a Western Star 49X review. I know it got a fair bit of criticism on release (mainly due to the tag-axle), but I’d love to see it get a fair chance. Keep up the great work as always ❤️

I want to take it one step further. Don't just put OHD on all trucks, but put UOD on all trucks as well. While they don't perform quite as good as the UOD II/OHD I, I'd love to run UOD III on every truck be it American truck, Russian truck, etc. The OHD I is a good looking truck tire, but what bothers me is no rim options. You get those lame white rims, or a completely stupid set set of rims that's like chrome or steel in the front but still white in the back (I hate those rims so much), and that's it. UOD III while a bit less performing is also a really good looking tire and you get the full range of rim options. Besides while not as good as UOD II/OHD I, UOD III still aren't terrible. I was running these when I was back in Season 4 and they actually felt kinda good in snow. They are certainly a hell of a lot better then UOD I despite having having the same mud value of 1.5, I couldn't get nowhere on UOD I. But UOD III, honestly they aren't that bad. UOD III plus rim option... 2 I think it is, the shiny chrome ones. Would be nice to have that on all trucks. That'd bring them pretty closely in-line with the Pacific P512 looks wise.

I also think the UOD III's are a really good looking tire like the OHD I's. Thats a nice bit of detail that would be nice to have is rim options on those tires too. I do wonder how all trucks would act under the same wheel loadouts. Well, actually I know how that would go, it would just narrow things down to other things that induce or reduce grip.

@@NProvince Yeah after the Boar got both sets it really confirmed to me that to a certain extent the truck matters more then the tires. Like a offroad tire will obviously do better then say a All-Terrain tire. But like, at least to me the difference between the UOD II Medium tire and the OHD Heavy is basically nothing. I put OHD on the Boar and I feel like I could get just far with the UOD. The Boar doesn't handle any different, it isn't any more stable. It still drives the same on OHD as it did on UOD. Whatever advantage the OHD offers seem to be pretty tiny at least based on the Boar. Maybe in a lighter truck that isn't pushing down into the mud so much the difference between UOD and OHD would be more apparent. But based on the Boar, I see no reason why all trucks can't run both sets. Although now that I think about it. Don't basically all the trucks share the same loadout of All Terrain tires? Maybe when comparing American to Russian trucks we should set to All Terrain for the most fair and balanced comparison?

I’ve had some different results with the Boar and I’ve felt the new tires a better option overall. Being that it is indeed a very heavy truck already with large wheels the difference probably would seem less because of those two grip factors. I think perhaps an allterrain would be a good benchmark to test trucks, but then that’s a multi hundred hours worth of tests to find data that no one will care about because everyone jsut wants the best tires which is understandable

All the medium tires and all the heavy ones are literally described in one XML file, rarely two. This means that all the truck that have mediums, are stuck with UHD/UAD/UOD, and those having heavy are stuck with HMD/ATMD/OHD. The Boar is pretty much the only exception that have access to both heavy and medium at the same time.

The one thing that you didn’t mention was the lack of any real snorkel. That can be incredibly frustrating when all of a sudden you need one.

Hello Nate bro ! How is the life going on in the Northern America, is the snow already melted😃 in Finland, winter was a record snowy and snow is still visible on the ground.. I haven’t been very active lately (apologies), I’ve been busy with my second hobby so SR has received bit less attention. Back to review, one pro came to mind, speed. This, I think, makes the truck feel even more powerful, somehow. It's hard to explain.. Anyway, a great review as always, Nate! You nailed my thoughts very well 👌👍👍 I'm also excited about the map for the next phase, I don't think there seemed to be any or very little snow (thank goodness) and the new racing theme seems kind of fun. You have to have forward movement to engage High gear. Usually if you can get into 2Nd; then you can immediately shift into high

So I do think there are better trucks for logging, like the russian trucks etc, but If you're trying to challenge yourself or just do something different I would say yea it would be good. I need to warn you though, small and medium logs induce vehicle sway because they change the CG of the vehicle alot due to their heavy weights. For this just be careful of your balance. Hope that makes sense
