The International TranStar (originally the International 8000 Series), is a range of Class 8 trucks produced by Navistar International for North America. Produced nearly exclusively as a semitractor, the product range is focused towards local delivery and regional shipping.
Introduced in 2002, the 8000 Series replaced a product line of the same name derived from the long-running International Harvester S-Series. In 2007, Navistar rebranded the 8000 Series as the International TranStar. The name is derived from International Harvester Transtar, used for various Class 8 conventional and cabover highway tractors from the 1960s to the 1980s.
In 1969, International Harvester introduced the Transtar 400 conventional. An update of the D-400 introduced in 1961, the Transtar 400 was a long-hood conventional fitted with the cab of the DCO-400 ("Emeryville") cabover.
In 1971, International Harvester replaced the Transtar 400 with the Transtar 4270 (short-hood) and 4370 (long-hood) conventionals. A completely new design with a much larger cab, the Transtar cab would be shared with the all-new Paystar introduced in 1973.
In 1985, the Transtar 4370 saw a major update and a renaming. Dropping the Transtar name, it became the International 9370, an introductory model of the International 9000 series. In 2000, the cab saw a major redesign for the first time since its 1971 introduction.
Design overview
International TranStar 8600 with a special single-seat body for carrying long pipes
Although using a wide variety of chassis frames for each vehicle, the 8000/TranStar is produced with the same cab as the International DuraStar (with which it shares a larger version of its grille), the ProStar, WorkStar, LoneStar, and the discontinued TerraStar and XT truck lines. As it is designed as a regional vehicle, the exterior of the TranStar did not include the fuel-efficiency enhancements integrated into the long-haul ProStar.

It's always good to know it's not just me who can do a bad paint job. But always annoying when the paint job don't go the way we like it

The small space is called a crawl space. The driver crawls from the truck cab into the sleeper cab. The truck driver would crawl from the driver's cab onto the bed in side the sleeper cab. Then go under the bed covers in the sleeper cab. Then go to sleep. The driver pulls over to the side of the road. Then have the four - ways flashing.

Greetings from Canada. Great review. ERTL Blueprinter kits were miles ahead of AMT truck models. AMT molds and instructions: good enough. ERTL molds and instructions: we can do way better than AMT.

Ertl were the best kits back in the 70s . Especially the DM 800 Mack's which I was so fortunate to be able to drive/ operate in the Navy Seabees 78-83.

@@cdpgbc-mw2kz There was only 2 that I know of and both were at the NCTC training Center in Gulfport Mississippi. One I ran had the V8 split shift and the other was a straight 6 with the split shift. You had to unscrew the kingpin out and drop the front of the trailer with the winch and layout the front and load up the dozer or what ever you were loading and then winch it back up and screw the kingpin back in. Unless you had a ramp to load from the back. I was only 19 when I learned how to shift it and run it . I felt like a big shot. We also had GMC Jimmy's with Detroits in them .

@musicman7297 I was in the SeaBees in Port Hueneme Calif 1978-1983, we had the 2 stick GMC's. Loved driving those trucks up and down the coast of CA. Didn't have any of the Mack trucks.

@@robertterry4164 Yes , our Jimmy's were twin stick too. We even had a International Paystar dump truck with an automatic. But never seen another the whole 5 years. I was first in my class and got choice of orders out of 3 places and I choose the NCTC transportation where I worked under 1 first class. It was great ,I got to haul equipment around and drive everything . I even picked up the new students in the rain with busses. Then on to NMCB 74 where I went to PR twice and the best place in the world... the Philippines for 9 months . I was happy to get out but I'm happy to have joined the Seabees. A lot of partying back then. The heavy equipment operators and mechanics were a tight group.

4 times. 4.flipping.timed. 1964 olds 442 1: gray primer went down fine, paint down fine (two tone), clear coat wrinkled it all. Stripped it in brake fluid. 2: switched primer to white, went down fine, paint reacted with primer and wrinkled again, brake fluid bath again 3: by this time, the body had been etched by the primers enough that it left "worm trails", gray primer went down fine but the etching still shown through even after sanding. 4: bought a new kit and successfully painted the body after experimenting on a spare Chevy Nova. I love this hobby....most days anyway...

This looks like another nice big rig kit. In terms of messing up paint jobs, it always seems to happen when I paint a model car yellow! First was an AMT '69 Ford Torino Cobra, then an Italeri Mercedes Tow Truck I ended up painting about two or three times, and the last one was Revell's 1990 Fox body Mustang notchback, which I ended up finishing off as a beater - my first attempt at that and it came out pretty well.

Hello Chris! Could a full build review of this kit be possible in the future? I saw on the modeling forums that previous reissues had a flaw, in that the front axle was set too far back and needed modifications to fit properly. I'd like to know if Round2 fixed this, as I wanted to add this one to my stash for a long time! Thanks a lot!

This looks like Round 2 did some work on the molds since it was last released. I recently built one of the last release of this kit, and it was a nightmare. Missing parts, difficult to read the part numbers on the sprues, among other issues. I think this release had improved upon the kit. Those Sprite decals are just awesome. It would have been nice if it came with trailer decals too, but they may release a Sprite trailer in the future. Thanks for sharing.

It appears this can be built as a day-cab (cab without sleeper). Could you confirm that, hpiguy? I used to drive a 4300, but it had no sleeper, and I'd want to build it that way. It looked like the clear tree in video has a back-of-cab window pane. My truck was orange and white. Wish AMT had this decal sheet available in other colors to sell us, in addition to green and white.

yes, it can be built as a daycab, it has the rear window glass included so you can leave the sleeper off.
