Cool selections, Julie London is underrated - such a seductive, silky voice. More on theme under the radar albums: Dusty Trails _Dusty Trails_ (2000) - a one-off Country-tinged Lo-Fi lp from ex-Luscious Jackson/ex-Breeders members. Guest spot by Emmylou Harris. A sublime record. Joni Mitchell _Hissing Of Summer Lawns_ (1975) - everyone talks about _Blue_ this album is her masterpiece. Echobelly _People Are Expensive_ (2001) - independently released during Britpop's demise, it's one of the scene's best. Sonya Aurora Madan is my favorite female voice in Rock. Marsha Hunt's 22 - (Oh No Not) The Beast Day/Medusa (1973) - killer Glam Funk singles from ex-Bolan girlfriend & subject of the Stones' "Brown Sugar". Le Futur Pompiste _Your Stories And Your Thoughts_ (2004) - superior Stereolab-ish Indie Pop from Finland, they perfected the formula but never made it big outside of the Helsinki scene.

Thanks so much for this, and while I know these are recent albums, Mary Margaret O'Hara's "Miss America" from 1988 is one of the best I have heard in the past few years -- I kept hearing about it, finally picked it up last year. The LP is a bit hard to find, and somewhat expensive when you do, but I have both the CD and LP (US & UK), oddly enough the CD sounds better. Speaking of Cat Power, I urge your subscribers to check out "The Greatest," one of my top 10 albums of this century. There are at least two pressings, the one to get is the first, the sticker says pressed at RTI.

Mazzy, Maddy Prior & Tim Hart released a third collaboration from 1971 called Summer Solstice. It was reissued in the US on Shanachie. The two volumes of Folk Songs seem to be UK only releases. Thanks, Chris

I have been listening to Suzanne Vega’s Solitude Standing which I think is a lively album. Her soft mellow almost whispering voice is so soothing. I think she would fit in quite nicely in your list. Enjoyed your video as always.

For me, female artists are currently top of my playlists - Some of the best music of the last 60 years is from newer female artists. Saw Adrienne Lenker of Big Thief play solo on Sunday - pure genius. Top for me is Jessica Lea Mayfield, who is an incredibly honest lyricist and superb song writer.

A very common use of a Theremin that most would have heard, especially of our age, is in Forbidden Planet. Your Folk Songs of Old England is a reissue. They were reissued by Mooncrest in the mid 70's a few times (did Mooncrest do anything but reissue BritFolk?), the originals are extremely obscure and were release on Tepee in 1968. They predate their Steeleye Span work. Volume 2 is arguably better than Volume One but both are must haves along with Summer Solstice if you don't have that. I've had CD reissues of these for close to 30 years but just stumbled on vinyl copies of the Mooncrest reissues myself and grabbed them (although mine are earlier reissues than yours and have different covers). Here are my last 10: Betty Davis - S/T Samantha Fish - Faster (should be 2 Samantha Fish albums but Rounder sent me 2 unplayable warped copies of Kill or Be Kind and is refunding me rather than send a 3rd) Aretha Franklin - The Atlantic Singles Collection Betty Davis - Nasty Gal Ruth Brown - Rock & Roll Tim Hart & Maddy Prior - Folk Songs of Old England Volume 1 Tim Hart & Maddy Prior - Folk Songs of Old England Volume 2 Tammi Savoy & The Chris Casello Combo - That Rock'n'Roll Rhythm Barbara Pittman - Sentimental Fool Sarah Mai - I Ain't Gonna Hush

I remember the lyric from the Clash’s “Straight to Hell” which goes “How’s about an English Jig or Two?,” which I’m not totally sure is evidence of the existence of English jigs.

You presented a lot of what I would have. Although, I would maybe pull more from 80s/90s. I remember that “Theremin” documentary, lots of Cold War intrigue.

Great list, as ever, Mazzy!! I really must look more into Julie London, you have mentioned her work on a number of occasions and I have benefitted from a number of your earlier recommendations. If you are looking for a new release from a female artist, try the new Judy Collins album. Unusually for her, it is a set of her own compositions and is quite superb.

I don't think you have to give up the dream of having a John DeVore speaker. I know someone that has the Orangutan O93 and he powers them up with an integrated PrimaLuna on the triode side at 35 watts, they sound like happy speakers. With that said those BW speakers are great sounding. I think your ears are going to be in a state of bliss for many years.

In the spirit of this video - recent (this winter) acquisitions: Laurie Anderson "Mister Heartbreak" (promo copy, exclusive pressing on "Quiex II" vinyl - ooh, aah) (WB) Laurie Anderson "Stange Angels" (WB) Virgina Astley "Hope In a Darkened Heart" (promo copy) (Geffen) Grimes "Visions" (VMP) Kelly Lee Owens "Inner Song" (the TTL exclusive - because shipping costs from the UK via Bandcamp stink) Janis Joplin '"I Got Dem Ol' Cosmic Blues Again Mama!" (Columbia) Joni Mitchell "Court and Spark" (Elektra Asylum) Hannah Peel "Fir Wave" (digital record via Bandcamp - nice interview with her on the "Electronically Yours" Podcast) Akiko Yano "Japanese Girl" (We Want Sounds reissue) Akiko Yano "Iroha Ni Konpeitou" (We Want Sound reissue) .. and no, I don't understand Japanese... enjoyed the St. Vincentr "Daddy's Home" recommendation you made some weeks ago, but haven't picked it up yet - just streamed it Took a pass on "Dusty In Memphis" back in Jan., too roughed up - 2nd hand copy - sad to say

NM> I have recently discovered your KZbin channel, and enjoy your videos. Likewise this latest list of great records by women. But I wanted to correct one mistake, I have you heard you make once before. You are not the first to make it, and will not be the last, for reasons obvious. For whatever reason Chan Marshall pronounces her name like Sean (for example Sean Penn whom you mention elsewhere in this same video). My reference on this subject is the fact I was/am a founding member of Cat Power. I just checked to make sure there is easy access internet evidence of Cat Power connection, I played drums on her first release: "Headlights" 7" on Making of Americans label in 1993. Also I think I am mentioned in the Wikipedia Cat Power page, if that counts for anything. Anyhow, keep up the good work. And if you need to, pronounce Chan anyway you want, keep doing as you want. If I did not know better, I would certainly pronounce is just as you do. Cheers. Glen Thrasher
