The way everyone was so quick to discredit Adam back then is absolutely disgusting… It really feels like they were only taken serious NOW because it came out that Miranda had assaulted little girls. There’s a really awful belief out there that women can’t exploit or assault men and masc-presenting folks, and I think that worked in Miranda’s favor up until now.

Everything you say about Colleen becoming a family channel is so on point!!! I do think what you said about her college isn’t 100% fair though. Colleen and many members of her family are fairly open about their prior fundamentalism and them being homeschooled because of it (though less so her older brother, who is also on KZbin running a family channel with his wife). It was the religious stuff that sent Colleen to that college. At that college, though, she met Korey, whose coming out is part of the reason she isn’t religious (or at least religious in that way) anymore. And she’s certainly aimed to be an LBGTQ+ ally with her platform for a very long time. So please, let’s call her out on the racism and her be being inappropriate with fans. But her college selection is rooted in an upbringing she, as a child during it, didn’t have much control over, and likely was paid for by people who wanted her at a school like that. She turned away from all of that, hard, when she was in the middle of that environment. That’s a good thing, as far as I can tell
@saf212720 күн бұрын
I completely agree with you on the college topic. Plenty of people go to colleges like that because it’s the only place their parents will permit them to go, and in a highly conservative upbringing like that, you’re often well into your 20s before you realize, “hey, I’m allowed to disagree with my parents!” For a great example of a person with this story, I highly recommend Alyssa Grenfell’s channel. She is an ex-Mormon with a BYU degree who very openly speaks out against the church now. Her videos are fascinating and eye-opening.
@sierracindrell577520 күн бұрын
Yeah, I agree. Colleen is awful. Hers is one of the only cancellations I think is actually warranted. She’s done some horrible shit with zero remorse and then acts like the victim. The criticism about the “anti-gay” college isn’t really fair though.
@monicaruh606618 күн бұрын
YES OMG I ALMOST JUST TYPED OUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS. I attended a very religious Elementary and High School as a child and even would go to (what I now deem hateful) protests for the sake of saving people's souls. UNTIL I realized in High School that I was queer and my faith was dismantled fully for myself. Colleen needs to face the consequences of her actions, but she has already corrected her previously homophobic beliefs so more criticism should be placed on her racism/inappropriate behavior with minors.

Please make a video about Cody Ko! It's a similar situation where he had a "nice guy" reputation but what happened with Tana when she was underage was already known years before!
@AsMr-km6ex18 күн бұрын
Hateful situation. My boyfriend and I used to watch his niceguy content. He even called out creeps. Then it turns out he knowingly sleeps with a minor. When told my bf he said ‘but girls lie about their age’. Emm excuse me? Cody actually knew her age but even if did lie on what planet is it acceptable for a grown ass man to be attracted to/ chatting up teenagers? I dumped him for this among other sexist comments. It’s like Cody wanted an amazing girl next door kind of woman like Kelsey as his wife but the bleach blonde, loud, into makeup and nails women are completely disposable, there to be used. It shows he doesn’t see either as human.
@selunescorpio20 күн бұрын
The “it was a different time” defense does absolutely nothing for me. People should be able to realize even though something is widely culturally acceptable, or is shown to primarily children so the majority of people won’t be able to call them out, it’s not ok for the person to post. Colleen, Shane, and all those youtubers who did shock value comedy for their channels deserve to fade into complete obscurity
@kristenefox700120 күн бұрын
I hate this because it's like "Different to WHO?" This behaviour has never been okay why is this always the excuse. Fully agree, hopefully in a few years these people will be a speed bump in the greater KZbin history.
@Cat_Woods20 күн бұрын
Yeah, what they mean is, "I didn't notice that it was wrong because I took all the money I was making as social validation of my actions." Nope, it was exploitative, harmful, and wrong then, too. The fact that you were rewarded for it instead of getting any negative consequences is what allowed you to get away with it. But that's what reveals character -- how does someone act when they can get away with doing something wrong?
@musicislove9020 күн бұрын
There was a lot of terrible behavior that was normalized in the past because it was just happening so often, but that didn't make it okay. It's such a weak excuse to say "everyone else was doing it". And just because they didn't face any consequences back then doesn't mean they never should. It drives me crazy that some people try to make that argument.

Yeah and she would mention it briefly in other videos, as well. Also, there's a lot of people who went to Christian schools like that who no longer hold those beliefs or who never did but went for financial reasons. However, I will say with how much Colleen lies it wouldn't really surprise me if she did still hold those beliefs but fell in the camp of "well I think it's wrong but you do you" but doesn't want to admit that.

Queer alumnus from that same school here 🤚🏼 that comment about how Colleen going to that school being indicative of her character REALLY irked me lol. Like, there were plenty of gay students that choose to still go to the school for one reason or another, it says nothing about her behavior after the fact. It was a weird fact to try making a point on for the topic of the video. I get we dislike Colleen here folks, but the choice of school is such an unimportant part here

@@PeachShortcake_I was a fan coming from the Broadway community appeal first of all. She first made her mark with the Broadway community, she had (if I’m remembering this correctly) a walk-on role in Mamma Mia where she met Frankie Grande (and Ariana), so that was some of my early association with her since I’m a theatre person. And I was in middle school when I first started watching her. I was much more a fan of Colleen than of Miranda. I stopped watching Miranda videos at a certain point and was only watching Colleen, kinda up until her personal page started exploiting her own kids since the ethics of family vlog channels are just really icky (I watched some channels like that when I was a kid but later saw them for what they really are. Her brother’s family channel being an example of that). This is only scratching the surface like I was big into the fandom, Colleen followed me on Twitter (she still does apparently? I unfollowed tho lol), I’ve met her twice, I was like deeeep in the trenches yall.

Hannah, I have been a long time fan and as an ex-Colleen fan, I’ve been waiting for this one. It’s my Roman Empire. There are a few things I want to touch on as I remember them happening in real time and then how things changed. When she first got pregnant, she was always asked “is the baby going to be on camera?” She would always answer with a no and maybe when it was older and could consent, she’d rethink. Well here we are. I remember wanting to ask her about it at a q&a but my friend wouldn’t let me. Looking back, I know she’d have been PISSED if I had cause she is very aware and cares a lot how she comes off. I think I do disagree with the reception of TGT. After spending A LOT of time on the snark page, that was many peoples final straw. The complete lack of accountability blacklisted her for a lot of loyal fans. At that point in time, I would argue her fan base was split between moms or adult women like me who grew out of her ms content but watched in that nostalgia way you described, and children or teens who found her interesting. So I think TGT was the final straw for adults and was a non explanation for kids who are too young to understand or those who don’t have a lot of social media and weren’t that aware of what was happening. They only knew that she stopped posting. I don’t think TGT was a ploy. I think she is just truly delusional and believes herself to be the victim, even to this day. She refuses to acknowledge anything about the situation and I think TGT was the delusion created from her own vanity.

How did I get so lucky… two different Colleen Ballinger videos in four days?! Christmas came early this year!! I’ve never seen your channel but I’m so glad to get some new content on my fave Dark rabbit hole/internet crime scene! I’ll say it again to you, thanks for keeping the boot on her neck and not letting YT forget just how DEVASTATING and seemingly never ending this whole thing was. Enough time has gone by and she’s just posted enough content/deleted enough critical comments to allow an entirely new fan base while keeping her diehard stormtroopers and apathetic KZbin policies that kept her afloat this entire time. Definitely subbing to your channel and looking forward to seeing more of you!

Loving these uploads!!! A video that would be so interesting from you is your thoughts on haley Pham rebranding into a booktuber. She is writing a book that is supposed to come out in the next year or so.

She did?! That's concerning

I think “a different time” has really translated to no one pushed back. A change happens when society starts pushing back and calling out

Yeah, pretty much. Back in the 2000s-early 2010s, anybody attempting to crack down on morally scummy or reprehensible behavior was often met with harassment and was pretty much forced into silence. Wasn't until the mid-late 2010s that people had any semblance of success in cracking down on this type of thing, and even then, it’s kinda hit or miss in whether or not anything happens.
