There WAS a guy at work that “made” himself the “safety officer”. Yes, he took classes, no one asked him to. There really wasnt a need for it. Safety meetings and agendas were already in place. He would take walks around the facility 3 times a day, take pics email them to everyone. No one cared, he had no authority, he just pissed people off. Sad to say about 2 weeks ago he committed suicide. Some of these guys are truly sick, literally. Sick in the head. We call them names and think they are weird. I was thinking the same thing. I haven’t been a cop, but I was in the Army (more than this jackhole has ever done). I don’t think anyone else ever would have even thought to abbreviate that title. Even though you could possibly hear the word “Sarge” rarely if it was in an informal setting, nobody would ever call any Sgt. that in any kind of formal setting, inquest hearing, or likely- ever, from any subordinate. For the most part the only reason people even know that abbreviation is from WWII movies, not because it’s common linguistics. That would be the most likely title to be abbreviated, and I’ve never heard that one used even.
