Right? Changing their colors doesn't suddenly just make you in the right. In nearly every state you go, any sort of flashing lights that mimic an emergency vehicle are illegal, regardless of color. This is why flashing lights on construction vehicles are yellow and blink in a very deliberate manner. The *only* exception that is made in very rare circumstances are tow trucks, especially ones that work busy interstates, and they require explicit permission before being allowed to flip on a red and blue light bar *and* have to fill out a metric shitload of paperwork afterwards proving that the emergency light-bar was necessary. And in all my life, I've only ever seen *two* tow trucks that had an emergency vehicle style light-bar in action. I live in Missouri, though, where law allows a tow truck to possess said light-bar and a siren. Other places might not have such a law.

You can possess any color light bar in most states as long as it's not red and blue. you can also have a red and blue one however you must only use it on private property. But if his lights ARE purple and orange then he's in the clear. But purple also typically used in funeral proceedings but i think his are too...dark purple making it look blue on purpose.
