How do I know which equation to use when plugging X in? Because when I use the equation: y=x^2+4x-6 then I get (-10) and (-1) as my values for Y.

Once you find out the x values , it doesn't matter which equation to plug the x in, it will spit out the same corresponding Y value for both. Hope this helps

If you can not factor it, you’ll need to use the quadratic formula to solve for the x values. I would double check your math that lead you up to this point first though ... quadratic formula is a lot of work just to discover the error was elsewhere !

You could have also completed the square, there are more than two options for x

there's not really much of a point to do completing the square unless its for the turning point. Factorising is quicker, and quadratic formula is just completing the square without having to work out the turning point.
