Interstellar Modeler 10 year Anniversary Review

This marks my 10th anniversary on KZbin and I have finally gotten around to publishing a video commeorating it. In this segment, I take the top 10 most viewed videos and revisit the models associated with them. Also included is a look back at Hailing Frequencies Open interviews and Hot Off the Bench segments.

Oggie, well done to you sir. I was into modelling at an early age, about 7 or 8 years old. It wasn't constant, but I kept picking up on it and made kits over many years. Whilst working overseas I got to build some great kits, including the Narcissus from Alien. This was the first kit I made with weathering to make it look better, well, it did to me at least. Currently I don't have a specific room to build kits, and my airbrushing spray booth (when I use it) has the 'exhaust' tube out the window, so not very good in winter. Finding your channel has boosted the amount of kits I have built from my large stash, from cars to planes and helicopters to my favourite Sci-Fi kits, mostly Star Wars, but I also have a Space 1999 Eagle, the DSV-1 Liberator from Blakes Seven up to date with the latest for me, the Revell N1 Starfighter from 'The Madalorian.' Thank you for continuing this channel/these great and informative videos. Have a nice break and look forward to the videos in January.

Keep up the good work. I just got back into modeling after about 40 + years. I started small and easy last year by completing a 1/650 TOS Enterprise and a 1/1000 U.S.S. Reliant. I'm always looking for good content like this to help me learn and hone my skills in the hobby.

Really enjoyed your collection and commentary , alot of amazing builds especially the Seaview . When it comes to collections i am always amazed at how popular the Falcon is compared to most other ships in the science fiction world . If any one has ever had the opportunity and skills to build the Falcon in large scale its always the center of their collection .

Thanks so much Wayne. I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel. As for the Falcon, yes...people really love that ship. As you know a lot of our hobby is tied in with nostalgia and SWars brings back so many fond memories for a lot of people. I would say that is the case for other iconic ships like the Enterprise, Seaview and Eagle but the Falcon has a farther reach. It has the advantage of having reached 4 or 5 generations since it flew on screen in 1977. Kids today can easily identify the ship. Sad to say, I'm afraid its only us old guys who now remember the Seaview, Eagle which is why I am forever grateful there were people who were committed to getting beautiful more accurate kits produced. It really is amazing when you think about it. Well it's a new year and I wish you all the best. I really do love corresponding with other modelers like you. Hello Oggie and happy 10th Anniversary. I really love you videos, I think you were building Eagle model when I started watching your videos. I really like the extra lights you added to it. I built a lot of these models in my teenage years. The Viper, Galactica, Seaview and Eagle. I was so disappointed in the inaccuracies of of the models of those days. Especially the Eagle model. I always wondered why bother coming out with these models if they are so inaccurate. You also made the diorama with the Viper in the hanger bay. My dad and I started to build that too for the 70's viper I built but at that time I was 16 and since starting work I just didn't have the time between work and school, and dating of course. Well I look forward to seeing future videos and build from you. Oh your interview with Nick Tate was wonderful, I loved hearing from him. Take care and Happy 2024.

I'm curious if the designers of the kits weren't fans or ever watched the shows. The reason we have all these beautiful kits now is because a lot of the guys involved grew up like we did and are dedicated enough to jump through all the hoops to produce them. It's really amazing considering how much goes into designing, tooling for production etc. It is so great that they've done this. And I totally had fun meeting Nick Tate. I was nervous about interviewing him but he made it so so easy. He really is just like you saw on the interview and is so appreciative of the fans. I hope you get to meet him some time. The painting of the lighthouse looks very cool by the way, always enjoy seeing what you painted next specially with the lighthouses in them as you may remember i really like them too. I know what you mean about Boyd he's an excellent builder and very helpful when looking for new idea's and you get a sence of courage to go ahaed with a slightly complicated build...I have to admit Papa Smurf ( Simon Mercs ) first gave me the guts to do my first J-2 and I did learn a lot from him as well but again Boyd got me to do my first 1/350 Refit and it's going great so far... almost done just got to finish up with the Nacelle's. Happy New Year Oggie! If you ever decide to do another 1/350 TOS, I believe the 50th Anniversary and the 2021 release with added pilot parts have the smooth saucer in the kit now. I had an earlier release and bought the smooth saucer supplement. So glad I did.

Curious about your fiber optics comments, why would you not use fiber optics again?

@@arnthorsnaer i just find it cumbersome to work with and just didn’t enjoy it. Also found it difficult to to snip the ends completely leaving small stubs behind. The Bandai stardestroyer proved you dont need fiber optics to get a similar look, especially at that scale. If I were to do it over I would use a similar approach. Thanks for watching.

I'm doing my first batch of models (ST 1k ships) and I decided against lighting them since I want to build my own lighting kit so I decided to focus first on everything else (like painting). I've found your videos very helpful, especially when you've been building ships I'm starting work on.
