i prefer the RF97 autograph. yeah, a bit stiff but strung appropriately (gut mains/ round or square poly cross) or full poly (soft) at lower tension is an absolute beast of a frame. I have never had so much fun taking full swing backhands or forehands on the rise. terrific spin and one can absolutely blast the ball with decent technique. one of the best frames of all time. i understand the new generation is playing with lighter frames and fast swing speeds but that's one reason why carlos lost to novak especially on clay. that being said, i wish roger the beat and hope these racquets do well.only take care of your arm and technique. more weight equals more stability at the expense of fast whippy shots though its possible with his original frame.
@pac0re2 ай бұрын
RF97 autograph is a close approximation of what RF actually used, so it's no surprise it hits well. It is stiffer than what he used though like most consumer racquets. I love my RF97 though, its incredible and like you said you can really rip a ball, light head, heavy handle.
@z1az2852 ай бұрын
@@pac0re and extremely stable. the balance doesn't feel flimsy at all. you are right, i am pretty sure his frame stiffness was lower and there was one subtle difference. there was no trapdoor on the handle which was made for him anyway
@samster9782 ай бұрын
As you get older and if you play at a high level for a rec player the RF97 is tough to use, I guess it was time for something with a more modern twist
@z1az2852 ай бұрын
@@samster978 There seems to be a general trend towards low swing weight frames. i have been reading that Sinner and Alcaraz have low swing weights and static weights which may work in some scenarios but not in others. Plus lighter frames aren't stable unless there is something new in the construction. One reason why Alcaraz lost to novak on clay was because he stood too far back and he was consistently hitting short or weak returns because he was too far back with such a light frame or unable to handle a high bounce from deep. not the case at Wimbledon where he stood on the baseline to return or rally and had no issues. So its possible even for high level rec players to play well, but they have to have good technique otherwise light frames could adversely impact their arm/ wrist/ elbow. Alcaraz recent forearm injury was due to his strings however.
@samster9782 ай бұрын
@@z1az285 I agree with you, though it's easier said than done as clay the ball bounces very differently to grass so it's not always possible to play closer to the baseline whether you have a heavier or lighter Racquet

Fed sounds like he always missed the superfast feel of his PS90 on the forehand. The RF97 gave him huge power on the backhand but the complete omnipotency of his old forehand was not quite there even though it was still extremely good. I think its a personal choice to change racquets, but the vast majority of players take a "not broke don't fix it" approach. Think of Sampras and his Pro Staff. McEnroe and his Dunlap. Agassi Prince to Donnay to Head for 20ish years. They also get long contracts, so why switch em up during a match and throw off their game in the littlest ways in which a sport the littlest inches make the difference? Like the weight sensitivity and more importantly the string tension ...can change throughout the match being human beings, players grabbing a new racquet in the course of it as any match progresses, but I strongly believe it should be the same make and model for no tinkering with service, volley, and groundstroke nuances as each racquet most definitely feels different, and who wants that at 7-6 two sets All 5 All in a deciding Tiebreaker? Any close set or game? I realize this may go against Marketing..sort of..but I also believe there are plenty of tennis players that are and will be the buyers at all times accounting for that. Go Wilson! Go Yonex! Go Dunlap!

That or some sort of lifetime contract like Jordan and Lebron have w/ Nike. I wouldn't be surprised if Wilson makes a push to bring Roger into the fold w/ their apparel as well - the Wilson clothing line from on court to lifestyle has gotten really REALLY good in recent years.
@curttheboywonder2 ай бұрын
What do you mean you wonder? Maybe you’re very young and it’s an excusable question. Of course there is. Any athlete with their name on a product is getting a direct royalty payment. That’s how this works. I fully believe Roger loves this racquet, but it’s also padding his bank account.
@padflash2 ай бұрын
@@curttheboywonder I'm only referencing a life time contract in its guaranteed payout that NBA stars like MJ, Steph, and Lebron ($1b value, $32m annually) have. I understand the royalties, but this would be way more lucrative, especially in the tennis space where the volume of merchandise is significantly smaller than in basketball. Point was that Roger probably has a lifetime contract w/ Wilson that pays him to continue using their equipment and license his logo, regardless of getting paid any royalties.

There is only a few racquets that can be bought over the counter that are close to what the actual player used. RF97 and Serena's racquet, but even those are not exactly what they used. Pro stock racquets have silicone in the handle and have flexier frames, not to mention modifications with lead tape to match between multiple frames. The only company that sells racquets that are pro stock level is Tecnifibre. Those are the best racquets you can buy if you know how to hit a ball.
