Applied, selected my training location and just completed my ADAPT assessment. Waiting to hear back! Here’s my advice: I would recommend buying one of the study bundles if you get selected to take the ADAPT assessment. It helped me tremendously in my studying. Without it, I would’ve been able to do about 30% of how well as I actually did. It cost about $250 but I think it was worth it. It helps a lot in preparing for what to expect and they were the same type of questions, just worded differently and with different figures. Also, SW is no longer funding through their credit union. You will have to handle funding on your own.

It’s a class of 12 people so it’s a pretty tight knit group, some of us in our early 20s with a few other people thrown in there who are in their late 30s that switched careers. @@Porcelainrosegold Sure, biggest thing is be yourself. And congrats on the Adapt! It's two back to back interviews with a pilot and HR person (different people). They ask similar questions. Be able to clearly articulate why you want to fly commercially and particularly for Southwest. Show your enthusiasm. I read Leading with Luv and Nuts! to get a better sense of the culture. Reflect somewhat on your work history to be able to answer situational questions. They will ask a lot of "tell me about a time when you..." sort of questions. Qualifications to be a professional pilot often focus on IQ, passing personality tests, aptitude, job availability, college degrees, and of course flight training and experience type. However, one primary element not discussed as often is passing an FAA Class 1 medical. Medical tests are not aviation related, but are a vital element of an aviation career. Marketing videos geared to novice candidates should place the medical aspect first. Even a veteran pilot could lose his career, despite thousands of flight hours, without passing a physical. The military is not for everyone, but is a sound way of getting big experience right off the bat.
@trent_dyrsmid

And if you want a long career the focus is not getting heart disease or high blood pressure which means eating healthy all the way through..
@johnklaer2626
@johnklaer2626 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelallen1396 I would make a distinction in that I'm talking about ailments or conditions not caused by personal habits. Essential hypertension can appear regardless of health and cannot be cured. It can be treated but not enough to pass a first class medical. Eyesight or other conditions can cause failure to pass a medical or some other unknown condition. Moral of the story is getting medical issues checked out first is important before beginning a professional pilot training or career. Ideas about passing flight tests and getting ratings and flight time is wasted unless medical checks can be passed. I would agree that upon having a pilot career, managing health is vital.

Thanks for gathering and sharing this info. Also to add, my understanding of the Southwest 225 is that there are only 3 schools they work with so you would have to transfer to one of them. Arizona like he mentioned, one here in Denton, TX (north Dallas), and some other one I’m not sure where located. Might be something to check into. My son who is also in flight training just came home with some info on American’s envoy program, another great option and I am leaning toward that one. 👍🏽

I'm really starting to lean toward pursuing cargo in the long term, even before your most recent cargo video which was great, but this doesn't sound bad. The main question I would like clarified about 225 is, does one get paid while attending the program? Does the $35k he mentioned start at the beginning of training or after you've completed? I'm still in the workforce and have bills that won't stop just because I started flight training. A little money would be better than none. Thanks again for the quality content Trent!

If trent could do a video on the RTP programs for military that'd be sick. Got accepted to flight school for the army and leave in 2 months for it and am trying to figure out on how I should go about flying for the airlines, maybe frontier using it but honestly its so damn confusing reading it all. like, I dont need 750 flight hours when I join the RTP Program right? I just need 500 flight hours then they get me the 250 hours I need to get my R-ATP to actually fly for the airline? just weird. But I'll be back hopefully in just under 5 years so I guess I'll see if they're even still doing it then or if the pilot shortage is gone by that time and I cant find a job when I leave active duty

I’m sorry but I don’t have answers to any of those questions. You’d need to use Google.

Hello, thank you for these videos, I'm 43 working on my PPL and a career change. I just finished the ADAPT Test, can you ask Mitch how long it took to get an answer back after the test and can he provide insight on the interview process?
@mwerger93
@mwerger93 Жыл бұрын
It took me about a week to hear back from them regarding the results and then a few days to hear from SWA about scheduling an interview. Interview was very low stress. What got you into aviation? What do you enjoy about flying? What do you think is going to be challenging? What is something you feel you need to keep working on (weaknesses)? Very simple interview type questions. They will probably ask you about what you currently do for work and about your hobbies/interests, which is great because then you can tell them about the things that you are passionate about and what motivates you. Their recruitment team does a great job trying to get to know who you are and if you'll be a good fit for the company culture.

@@mwerger93 Awesome, thank you. Any other tips and tricks that weren't mentioned in the video? Do they help provide housing?
@mwerger93
@mwerger93 Жыл бұрын
@@nicholasrae they do offer student housing, it would be you and 3 other cadets in an apartment. I think ours came out to be around 6-700 a month and included utilities, internet and the furnishings. It’s an option you can add to your loan. Very nice option but it can be a little cramped with 4 cadets. Full cost breakdown will given to you when applying for the loan.

@@mwerger93 Hey mitch, thanks for the info. I completed the ADAPT test and have an interview scheduled. How long did it take for you to get a class date after interviewing? I'm 18 with my PPL looking to start training ASAP and would appreciate any info I can get on the 225 program. Thanks!

I just wanted to know if the 225 program doesn't require a degree. Do the other airlines require one? I know he said you don't need one but I have heard that other airlines require one. Just curious

Why is that funny? Its a Southwest jet on a thumbnail for a video about Southwest. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

Unless SW is paying for all training - these airline programs are not that great. There WILL be thousands hired of the next few years - do not worry about getting hired as long as you can fly and have a good training record. These programs are all about locking new pilots down. If an airline pays for all training - then it might be worth it. Another not so great program is the United Aviate. All the cards are in their side...no guarantees from them, no training and they have you in their pocket to call on you whenever they feel like. Could be 5, 10 or never years.
